Kael POV

I rushed Merdelin back toward the infirmary with her still in my arms, shouting for Elara as I made my way through the pack house.

“Please Kael” Merdelin kept crying as we got closer and closer to the infirmary. “My baby please”

Her cries made my heart clench “Elara!” I called as soon as I reached the infirmary.

The door opened almost immediately and Elara came rushing toward us. “Put her on the bed, Alpha. I need to examine her.”

I carefully lowered Merdelin onto the bed but I refused

Mira POV.I adjusted Cahaya in my arms and slowly made my way to the living room. My body was still sore and every step I took was a reminder that I needed to take things easy but I couldn't stay cooped up in my room all day.Miranda was sitting on the couch with Leo beside her. They both looked up when I entered and Leo immediately climbed down and hurried toward me."Miss Mira!" he called excitedly, his eyes fixed on the little bundle in my arms. "Is that the baby?"I smiled. "Yes, Leo. Would you like to see her?"He nodded so enthusiastically that I couldn't help laughing. I sat down on the couch and carefully adjusted Cahaya so he could see her face.Leo moved closer, peering at her ,his eyes filled with curiosity. He raised one little hand, then paused and looked at me as though asking for permission."You can touch her gently," I told him.He carefully brushed his fingers against her tiny hand. Cahaya stirred in her sleep, her fingers curling around his and Leo's mouth fell ope

ROGUE KING'S POVI hurriedly left the room. I couldn't possibly stay there for one more minute. If I had stayed another second with her, I might have lost control of Alexander. He was desperately clawing at my mind, pushing to take control. From the moment I set eyes on her this morning, standing near the house with the morning sun in her hair, I wanted to pull her into my arms and hold her. I wanted to breathe her in. I wanted to feel her against me.And when she began feeding Cahaya I wanted nothing but to switch places with that baby latching on to her nipples.I shook my head trying to get rid of that image from my mind."You idiot," Alexander demanded in my head. "Let me feel my mate! Just a little touch won't hurt."He wasn't even angry that she had accused me of stealing. He didn't care about any of it. He just wanted to be near her."Stop it," I snapped at him. "Do you want to scare her? Haven't you noticed she doesn't even feel our bond? You lack self-control.""And by the wa

MIRA'S POVMy feet were rooted in place and I couldn't move. I couldn't possibly face him after accusing him like this.My face felt hot, burning with shame and I knew what I would see if I faced him. The disappointment and hurt.I heard Garrick walking up behind me. He peered down at the locket in the drawer, then at the one around the Rogue King's neck."Ahh, great," Garrick said, his voice overly cheerful, trying to smooth things over. "This must be your locket, Miss Mira. See this was totally just a misunderstanding."I wanted to disappear. I wished the floor would open up and swallow me whole in that moment I forced myself to turn around. The Rogue King was standing by the bassinet, Cahaya still in his arms. His amber eyes met mine and I opened my mouth to speak but nothing came out. I closed it. Opened it again and closed it.He raised a brow at me. "I'm glad it was just a misunderstanding," he said, his voice flat. "And Miss Mira found hers. I wonder what would have happened i

MIRA'S POVI held up the locket waiting for his response but he simply held my gaze saying nothing with that annoying smile tugging at the corner of his lips.“I said where did you get this?” I asked again. He raised a finger to his lips gesturing for me to be quiet and said. "Hush, keep your voice down. I just put her down, you'll wake her."He whispered it, his eyes flicking behind me to the bassinet where Cahaya was still sleeping peacefully.I frowned at him pulling on the locket."Don't tell me what to do and just answer me Why do you have my locket?" I asked again but I lowered my voice. I couldn't risk her waking up again tonight after all the fussing this morning."Your locket?" He raised a brow at me, looking amused. "That's quite a bold claim, seeing that it's been on my neck all my life. Are you sure this is yours?""What do you mean, am I sure?" I demanded. "I know my locket when I see it. I know that insignia on it and there is a picture of my parents inside. Why do you h

MIRA'S POVI woke to the sound of Cahaya crying. The room was still dark, the first hints of dawn just beginning to peek through the curtains. I groaned and pushed myself up, my body still heavy with exhaustion. Every part of me wanted to lie back down, to pull the blanket over my head and pretend I couldn't hear her.But I couldn't. She needed me and she was more important to me than anything or anyone.I crossed the room to the bassinet and picked her up, cradling her against my chest. She was red-faced and squalling, her tiny fists flailing."Shh," I whispered, settling back onto the bed. "Mama's here."I guided her to my breast and she latched on immediately, her cries quieting to soft little suckling sounds. I leaned back against the pillows and closed my eyes, letting the quiet of the morning wash over me.For a few minutes, everything was peaceful. When she was done feeding, I burped her and changed her, then carried her out to the kitchen where Elowen was already up, stirring

ROGUE KING'S POV"Where did the attack happen and how many were affected?" I asked through gritted teeth. This had been happening for a while now. A handful of rogues who insisted on remaining barbarians, who will rather raid packs and kill the innocent. They would not agree to submit to me as their Alpha had been attacking our encampments. They weren't able to break through the defenses of my main pack, so they targeted the smaller settlements instead. The ones with fewer warriors who couldn't fight back."On one of our eastern encampments," Alixter said.I let out a long sigh. Our eastern encampments were new. They had a small population of wolves living out there, mostly families who had come to the Sanctuary looking for peace. There weren't many warriors stationed there because we hadn't expected anyone to attack such a small, harmless settlement."Are there any casualties?" I asked, looking up at him."No, Alpha," he said, shaking his head. "But we need to put a stop to this. Th
