CHAPTER 25

Without a word, Dante swept Cassandra off her feet, lifting her effortlessly into his arms in bridal style as though she weighed nothing.

She didn’t resist. Her trembling body simply melted into the solid warmth of his chest, finding a sense of safety amidst the chaos that still echoed in her head.

Dante turned his back to the corpse on the floor and the dark pool of blood spreading across the tiles. His jaw clenched. He walked out through the door.

When he reached the hallway, several of the Patriarch’s men stood waiting, blocking his path. Their hesitation was clear in their expressions. They didn’t want to go against a Don, but their orders told them otherwise.

Dante’s gaze hardened, his voice dropping into a low growl.

“Move aside.”

The men exchanged uncertain glances, a silent debate passing between them. Finally, they shifted aside, opening a path for him. No one dared to meet his eyes or block his path as he carried Cassandra away.

Dante strode forward, carr

CHAPTER 32She watched him walk out the door, his shoulders still heavy with the weight of everything that had happened.Cassandra sat in the cafe for a moment longer, stirring her now cold coffee. When she finally stepped outside, the afternoon sun made her squint. She took a deep breath and exhaled slowly, her eyes falling on the curb. A sleek black car was already prepared for her. Earlier, Viktor had only allowed her to stay back on the terms of having two bodyguards by her side. The two of them stood by the car, and despite the harsh sun, their postures remained stern, their expressions stone cold. Cassandra took a step forward towards them, but stopped when she suddenly sighted Kara crossing the road toward the headquarters. Her face lit up immediately, but her smile froze when she saw that Gregory had followed behind her. He grabbed Kara by the wrist, pulling her back roughly. Kara’s voice rose above the noise of the street. “Let go of me!” Cassandra froze. Gregory? Kara ha

CHAPTER 31 “Everyone keeps telling me to let go,” Aaron muttered absently, sighing for the 9th time. The words lingered in the air for a long time after they left his lips. He just sat still, amidst the light chatter around him, lost in thought. He was seated across from Cassandra in a small cafe near the statio’s headquarters. Cassandra stirred her coffee without drinking it. Her eyes lingered on him, watching the slump in his shoulders, the restless way his fingers tapped against the cup. He had barely touched his food. Everything about him screamed unease. He was deeply troubled, obviously. He would never admit it, but within himself, he was still trying to find a connection between Dante and Edward's death. After his quiet mumble, Cassandra reached across the table, her hand brushing his. “That’s because we care about you, Aaron,” she said softly. “You’re pushing this too far.” He jaw tightened as he mumbled under his breath “Not far enough,” He finally looked up, his eyes

CHAPTER 30 “You arrested Viktor’s father, Aaron. Why wouldn’t I have come?” Cassandra’s voice trembled. She paused for a moment before asking. “What happened? Did you find something on Mr. Krüger?” Before Aaron could respond, Dante appeared from the hallway. The sound of police chatter faltered as he passed through the lobby. He was calm, collected, yet his presence still commanded attention. Dante didn’t glance at Aaron first. His eyes found Cassandra’s instead, locking onto her worried-filled gaze. Then he turned away, walking toward Viktor, who stood a few meters off, waiting. Cassandra followed him with her eyes, her chest tightening. There was no fear in Dante's posture, no hesitation in his steps. Viktor was right. Aaron noticed her distraction and spoke quietly, his voice hinting on exhaustion. “I did find something,” he said. “Thanks to you.” He further explained “All but one person was found deceased in that file you got me.” He hesitated, his jaw tightening as he for

CHAPTER 29 “Detective Adler… we’ve got a problem.” The voice trembled from the other side of the line. For a fleeting moment, Aaron's heart sank. He was struck by a sharp wave of dread, threatening to end the illusion of victory he had been holding onto all morning. A problem. Of course there was a problem. Nothing ever goes straightforward when it comes to Dante Krüger. Panic jabbed at Aaron's throat, but he chose composure over stressing out. His voice lowered as he asked “What is it?” His tone was calm and measured. The voice listening would believe he truly was, but his heart was being torn apart by a tormoil he didn't even know. It was all evident in his expression and the look in his eyes. The voice came as a stutter, followed by a hard gulp. “Sir, i-it's…. Mr. Johanson” Aaron's jaw clenched, his heart dropping into his stomach. He exhaled subtly, still withholding his calm. “What about him?” There was a pause, as if the words were too heavy to utter. Then the voic

CHAPTER 28 The air inside the investigation room was stifling, the atmosphere thick with tension. Two men sat across from each other, a single metallic table set in between them. The table was littered, papers and documents scattered like autumn leaves on it, and a metal cuff that clung to no one in particular. Detective Aaron Adler leaned forward, his elbows resting on the desk. He placed his chin on his intertwined fingers, his gaze locking on the man opposite him. His eyes were sharp. He had the look of a man who believed he had finally won. On the other side sat Dante Krüger, unreadable. His arms were folded across his chest, shoulders squared, and his face devoid of expression. Aaron studied him for a long moment, his lips then curling into a faint, triumphant smirk. “I finally did it,” he muttered under his breath, his tone heavy with sadistic pleasure. Across from him, Dante didn’t move. His frown remained fixed, his gaze steady. For a man accused of murder, illegal

CHAPTER 27 Dante's calm voice cut through their conversation “Cassandra,” he called to her attention, but ended up getting both Viktor's and Aaron's. Cassandra looked at him. He met her eyes and asked “Where do you want to go?” At first, she said nothing. The question forced her to ponder deeply. In her sense, she needed a break from everything; the house, Viktor, the vows she took, the guilt, and most of all…Dante. The only place she could think of was home— the Adler family house. No one can just burst in if they wanted to. Unlike at Kara's place. Her thoughts faltered when she felt Viktor’s hand tighten around hers. Viktor's heart hitched when he felt Cassandra's hand slowly slipping out of his. She looked at him wearily, though it hurt to let go. “I think I’ll just visit home,” she said softly. Viktor’s jaw twitched, but before he could respond, she hurried to add, “I’ll be back by the weekend. I’m not going forever.” She gave him a weak smile. “I’m married to you, rem
