Elliot shrugs, taking a seat at the table beside me. "I suppose if he wanted to kill me, he already would have."

"No, he'd only severely maim you and then leave you for me to finish."

Elliot beams as if he loves the idea. "At least I'd go out smiling."

A laugh bubbles out and I can't stop myself. "I'm kidding."

"Harley, I'm waist deep in enemy territory. Alone."

"I thought you and the brothers were working together?" The men had been in this room together not that many days ago.

Elliot shakes his head. "More like not killing each other, yet. As long as there's something mutually for us to gain by it."

"You are uneasy here. Aren't you?" His posture is rigid, and he faces the door as if he's waiting for someone to bust through and take him out.

The MC brothers look like outsiders. Big burly men with shit attitudes and more leather than cotton on their bodies, but I've been around them my entire life. There is nothing scary in the compound. Men in police uniforms are scari
