Joaquin and I walked through the mall, my arms laden with bags filled with beautiful clothes. Dresses, blouses, jeans, shorts, and even office wear—everything I had always wanted but never allowed myself to splurge on. Joaquin had insisted on carrying most of the bags, which made me feel both spoiled and grateful.

"I really feel like a fiancée," I said with a playful smile, glancing at him.

Joaquin laughed, a deep, genuine sound that made me smile even wider. "Even though it's an arrangement, I'm more than willing to spoil you. Not because of the contract, but because I want to."

His words warmed my heart, and I felt a rush of happiness. "Thank you, Joaquin. This means a lot to me."

"Next, let's get you some footwear," he said, steering us towards a shoe store. "Sneakers, slippers, sandals—whatever you need."

I grinned, feeling a bit giddy with excitement. "Are you sure? Because I'm really loving this shopping day."

He laughed again. "How many times do I have to reassure you, Haven? It

  • Pen & Passion   Hot and Relentless

The weight of his words pressed into me long after they were spoken, heavy and sharp, like stones I couldn’t put down. You both gave me something to hold on to. But it sucks that you’re stuck between us.I hadn’t realized I was gripping his hand so tightly until my nails dug into his skin. I eased my hold, staring down at the familiar lines of his knuckles—the same ones I used to hold when we ran through this neighborhood as kids, the same ones bloodied too many times because he’d defended me from bullies.“You’re not tolerated, Javi,” I said quietly, fiercely. “Not by me.”He scoffed, bitter, and leaned back against the couch. “Yes, I am. Don’t sugarcoat it, Haven. My father tolerated me. Joaquin’s mother tolerated me. And soon… you’ll tolerate me too. Because you love him. And that’s all I’ll ever be—someone you put up with.”The sting of his words cut deeper than I expected. My chest tightened, anger and grief tangling until I couldn’t separate them. “Don’t you dare say that. Don’t

  • Pen & Passion   Tolerated

The ride to my neighborhood was quiet, but not heavy. Javier had one hand on the wheel, the other drumming idly against the gearshift, as if he wasn’t in a rush. For once, he seemed at ease. When we passed the corner leading to the old park, my breath caught. “Can we stop here?”He glanced at me, then at the road, and without a word, turned in.The park looked smaller than I remembered. The swings were rusty, the slide chipped. The big tree by the benches still stood tall, branches stretching wide like a memory refusing to fade.We stepped out, the faint squeals of kids running around greeting us instantly. Javier shoved his hands into his pockets, smirking as his gaze swept over the place. “This was our kingdom,” he said.I laughed softly. “Yeah. You were always making me your guard while you declared yourself king.”“You were a terrible guard,” he shot back, mock serious. “You always let the others tag me.”I narrowed my eyes. “That’s because you were slow.”He arched a brow, and be

  • Pen & Passion   Not a Story

The smell of something warm and savory tugged me from sleep. For a second, I didn’t know where I was despite knowing I was with Javier. The sheets under me were soft, but not mine. The faint hum of the city beyond the curtains told me I wasn’t at Jessy’s either. Then the memory hit—the walk, the men, Javier’s fists, his arms carrying me.The dream…Yeah, I was drunk! I remember now. I was sober and then afterwards we watched a movie and I…Dreamt about him twice. My eyes fluttered open. Morning light streamed in faintly through the curtains, and the quiet clatter of pans drifted from the other side of the room.Javier.I sat up slowly, my body heavy but my head clearer than last night. My gaze found him across the space, standing by the stove. His hair was damp, curling faintly at the ends, like he’d already showered. He was barefoot, wearing only a plain black shirt and joggers. He looked… normal. Like the Javier I remembered in bits and pieces from when we were kids, only older, bro

  • Pen & Passion   Dangerous

I drifted back under, lulled by the hum of the air conditioner and the distant rhythm of Javier’s breathing on the couch. My body, still warm from the first dream, betrayed me—dragging me into another. This time there was no hesitation. No nervous glance or pause.Javier’s mouth was already on mine, hungry and demanding, as if he couldn’t bear to waste another second. I gasped into him, clutching at his shoulders as his hand slid down my side, his palm searing against the thin fabric of my shirt. He pressed me deeper into the mattress, his weight heavy, protective, intoxicating. My legs parted instinctively, letting him settle between them. His hips rolled against mine, and the friction made me cry out.“Javi—”“Shh,” he whispered against my lips, voice rough, his breath hot against my skin. “I’ve wanted this for too damn long.”The words undid me. Every nerve lit up as his mouth moved hungrily over mine, stealing every breath, every thought. His tongue slid against mine, slow and del

  • Pen & Passion   Good Night

I fluffed the pillow beside me, sliding down against the cool sheets as the credits rolled across the screen. Javier was still lounging at the edge of the bed, his profile sharp in the flickering light, eyes distant like he wasn’t watching the movie at all.“You can take the bed,” he muttered suddenly, running a hand through his damp hair. “I’ll sleep on the couch.”I scoffed, hugging the pillow to my chest. “Oh, please. As if we haven’t shared a bed before.”He turned, brows arching. “That was when we were kids, Haven. A blanket fort and popcorn don’t count. Things are… different now.”I tilted my head, feigning nonchalance. “Different how?”“Don’t play dumb and innocent, Haven. You’re smarter than this and you pretty much know what I mean.” His gaze didn’t waver. “Because now,” his voice dropped low, threaded with honesty that made my stomach twist, “I have feelings for you.”I snorted. “Yeah, okay… you got a point. We’re both adults.”“Yeah, adults.” He leaned in closer, his breath

  • Pen & Passion   Fear, Hope, Longing

The credits rolled on the last episode of the series we’d been watching, but neither of us moved. Javier lounged on one side of the couch, one arm sprawled across the backrest, while I curled up with a bowl of chips balanced on my lap.The movie menu on the screen looped lazily, familiar music filling the quiet space. My lips twitched into a smile. “You really dug this one up, huh?”Javier smirked, his eyes catching the glow of the television. “What? You loved it. Don’t tell me you don’t remember how obsessed you were with this movie when we were kids.”“I wasn’t obsessed,” I shot back, popping a chip into my mouth. “I just… watched it a lot.”He gave me a look, the kind that said he was enjoying catching me in a lie. “Every weekend. On repeat. To the point I wanted to throw the VHS out the window.”I laughed, the sound surprising me with how light it felt. It had been a long time since we laughed like this—like before everything got messy. “You’re exaggerating.”“I’m not.” His smile
