Penulis: Egg Yolk

Chapter 1

Penulis: Egg Yolk
Josie Collins' lipstick stain was still on William Locke's face. Before she could wipe it off with her fingers, William grabbed her wrist. "Leave it. My grandmother would love to see this."

She smiled and nodded gently, but her smile vanished right away when she realized I was staring at her wedding dress. "I'm only wearing this to cheer his grandma up. I'm not really going to marry William. Your mom has been gone for six months. Stop comparing the living with the dead."

My grip on the steering wheel tightened gradually. After I calmed down, I turned off the engine and pulled out the car key. "Fine. Go ahead and cheer her up. Our wedding next month is off."

Josie was taken aback, and her face fell. "Don't be this way, Sam."

I said nothing and got out of the car. The moment I got out, Josie's mother, Maude Collins, came running over to grab me by the arm. "You've always been a good boy, Sam. Why must you create trouble today?"

She glanced inside the car and tried to talk me into cooperating. "Josie explained everything to you, hasn't she? This is just to cheer up an old lady, and Josie will only be with William for today. You'll have the rest of your life with her."

I looked at Maude. "Did all of you know about this?"

Her grip on me relaxed, but it quickly tightened again. "What's wrong with us knowing about this? Everyone has an elderly person at home that they care about. This is just a small issue. Can't you just give in to it?"

Josie's father, Arthur Collins, stood on the steps, looking more upset than I was. "You shouldn't be embarrassing Josie on a happy occasion like today. We can talk about this in private at home instead of making a scene in front of all our friends and families."

"Whose friends and families are you referring to?"

My question rendered him speechless.

The car door opened, and Josie came out while carefully lifting the skirt of her wedding dress. "You can leave the car keys behind if you don't want to drive the car, Sam. I'll get someone to be the wedding driver."

William followed behind her. "Josie, I think Sam's really mad about all this. Maybe I should talk to him."

Josie sneered, "When has he never been mad? He'll be fine after two days."

William laughed. "You're right. He always gives in to you. When he was taking care of his mother, he didn't sleep for two whole days, and when he was finally able to get some rest when his relatives took over care duty, he still came running to you when you called him at 2 am, and even waited several hours for you downstairs."

I did not want to argue with them and turned to leave, but the path outside was crowded with friends and relatives of the Locke and Collins family.

"Didn't you hear them telling you to leave your car keys?"

A few muscled men surrounded me. One of them grabbed me by the arm, while the other bent my wrist, and they snatched the car keys. They pushed me, and I fell onto the steps, hitting my forehead on the corner of a rock. It hurt so much that all I saw were stars.

Blood dripped from the corner of my forehead onto the back of my hand.

Josie was only a few steps away from me, but she did not come over to me or ask if I was hurt. William opened the car door for her, and she held his arm and bent over slightly to enter the car. They drove away right in front of me.

A notification popped up on my phone. It was a text from Josie. [Be good. I'll only be with him for a day. Wait for me. I'll come to you tomorrow."

I used to calm down whenever she said this to me, and I would wait for her to see me, but this time I did not reply. Instead, I scrolled through my phone and called a number. "Mr. Sampson, can I still apply for the overseas project we have?"

He sounded surprised. "Aren't you about to get married? When the company wanted to transfer you there, you told us that you couldn't bear to let your future wife be in a long-distance relationship with you."

I stared in the direction where the convoy of cars left. "It's not a concern for me now. I'd like to apply for the transfer."

The house was eventually sold off. The realtor even asked me, "Why would you sell it when you've renovated it so nicely?"I replied, "I don't want to stay here anymore."However, I still had many things kept at that house. It had clothes that my mother tailored halfway for my father, pictures of our family of three, and the furniture I bought for after Josie and I got married.Unfortunately, there was no reason to force myself to live in this house when it had been sullied by someone else. After the house was sold, I bought a smaller house for my father that was closer to the hospital and my company. The overseas project I worked on was a success, and I was promoted when I returned. I had rejected the offer to work on the project once because of Josie, but the project returned to my hands after some twists and turns. Now, I no longer needed anyone's permission to go wherever I wanted, and I did not need to consider anyone's plight of waiting for me for 18 months if I accepted a

The fiasco at our home had been turned into a video clip, which became evidence in the end. When I was away at work overseas, my aunt helped me hand the evidence over to the lawyers. I was back this time to attend the last session of mediation.William was there as well. The arrogant look he gave me 18 months ago was no longer there. "It's been a long time, Sam. It's about time you stopped this shenanigan."Before I could reply, the clacking of high heels was heard from outside the door, and Josie entered the room. William's face fell. "What are you doing here?""I'm here as a witness." She handed something to the lawyer. "I was present on that day, and I saw everything. I know who made the first move and who pushed Sam to the ground."William stared at her. "Are you coming at me because of him, Josie?"Josie did not look at him. "I'm just making up for what I failed to do then.""Can you even make it up?" William suddenly laughed. "Sam doesn't even want you anymore."Josie turn

My flight home landed 18 months later, and I walked toward the airport lobby while pulling my luggage behind me. I spotted my father right away.It had been more than a year since I had seen him, and he had more gray hair than he did before. Despite that, he looked quite high in spirits, and the fracture on his wrist had healed. I approached him with a smile. "Dad.""You're home.""I'm home."He wanted to help me with my luggage, but I refused. "I can carry the luggage myself.""Do you think I'm still a patient? You can think that when I'm 70." He laughed as he rebuked me light-heartedly."Sam." I stopped in my tracks and turned to see Josie standing in the crowd. She had lost a lot of weight in the past 18 months. She had no makeup on, and she was not specially dressed for the occasion. All she did was stand where she was while gripping her phone. My father glanced at her and said nothing.Josie approached me slowly. "You're back.""Yup."She probably did not expect my rep

A month passed, and it was soon the new date of our wedding after Josie and I postponed the previous wedding. I received an email from her at 6:00 am. [It's supposed to be our wedding day today.]At noon, she wrote another email to me. [I'm outside the hotel entrance.]Josie emailed me a picture at 11:51 pm. It was a picture of the empty venue where the tables and chairs had been rearranged for the next event. [I've waited the entire day.]At 12:01 am, she sent the last email: [The day has passed.]I did not reply. Time passed as work became busy. Three months passed, and soon it was six months later. On the day of my mother's death anniversary, I had a work meeting. My father shared a picture of an extra bouquet on my mother's grave. I glanced at it and texted him: [Did she come by?]My father replied: [Yup.]That night, he called me. "Josie waited for me a long time at the cemetery." I remained silent."She said she wanted to see your mother.""Did you let her?"

Seven days after I left the country, a mutual friend shared a clip with me. [Take a look at this. Josie had a falling out with William.]Initially, I had no interest in watching it, but his text ended with, [It was because of you.]This prompted me to click on it, and an image of a gate to a residential area was shown. Josie had gotten out of a car, and William chased after her, trying to put his hand around her shoulder, but she dodged his hand suddenly. "Don't touch me."William was taken aback. "Josie?""Don't touch me from now on," she said coldly. "And we shouldn't keep in touch anymore."William's face fell. "What do you mean? We didn't do anything when Sam was around, and now that he's gone, you're starting to draw the line with me?"Josie said nothing and turned to leave, but William blocked her way. "We've already gotten married and even kissed each other. I've even stayed at your house. What are you trying to prove now that he's gone?"She jerked her head up to look

  • Picked Up Fiancée as a Wedding Driver   Chapter 5

It was noon the next day when my flight landed. The company's overseas project would last for 18 months in a country with a weak basic power facility.I turned on my phone, and numerous notifications popped up. I had dozens of missed calls from an unknown number, which also sent me several texts. Based on the tone of those texts, I could tell they were from Josie.[What do you mean by this, Sam?][Why did you block my number when I told you to come pick me up in two days?][Where are you?][Your father told me that you left the country. Is that true?][18 months?][Why didn't you discuss something so major with me?]The first few texts were full of anger, but the next ones had different tones.[Sam, I'm already home.][I've hired cleaners to clean up our house.][William is gone.][Please pick up my call.]The last text was sent at 4:00 am. [Do you really not want me anymore?]I blocked the number after reading all the texts. That night, my aunt gave me a video call. S
