Chapter 60

Darcy’s POV

I stood in the doorway of Adrian’s room, staring at what she was doing, the scene in front of me. shocking. Somehow, I expected it. I heard my name twice. So I entered to know why she called me.

The soft glow from the light filled the room. She sat on the bed. Startled.

Her hair was messed up like someone from war and her clothes straps slipped off her shoulders. Sweat on her face, her breath was unsteady.

And under that pillow, I spotted a torn magazine page. My photo.

Beside her, a small purple device told me everything about what I had just walked into.

My chest tightened.“Were you… fantasizing about me?” I asked calmly. I closed her door and got closer to her.

Her face turned red. “No,” she said quickly, her breath was not steady.

I held up the page. “Then what’s my picture doing here?”

She froze. Her eyes wide open with embarrassment. She had no words to answer the question.

The silence between us grew heavy with everything that has been going on. We’d been avoiding each other for months. Even times we look at each other, when we brushed, hands, and times that mean too much.

“I’m right here, Adrian,” I said softly, stepping closer towards her. “Why use a picture when the real thing is right here?”

“Darcy, I...”

"Shhhh,"

I kept looking at her. The way her nipples pointed out in her clothes. Hard.

Her necklines and her bare tights. The mix of shame and desire in her eyes.

“What did you think about when you looked at my photo?” I asked quietly.

She paused for a while, biting her lower lips. “I was picturing you… kissing me.”

Something inside me snapped.

I leaned closer, until our faces almost touched. “Like this?”

Then I kissed her.

The kiss wasn’t soft. I'd wanted this for a long time.

She moaned on my lips.

Then she kissed me back, harder. She held my shirt as if she was afraid I’d go away. I didn’t. I couldn’t.

When we finally pulled apart, I whispered, "where… you thinking of me touching you?"

"Yes, Darcy."

The way she calls my name lit a fire of pleasure in me. I touched her soft tights and slid in my hands to her underwear.

"You're wet, Adrian,"

"Yes, Darcy," she said, "I need you."

“You don’t need to worry Adrian. I’ll take good care of your body.”

“Darcy—”

I kissed her again, then traced the kiss to her earlobes. "I missed you Adrian,"

Then,I remove her robe, leaving her in a thin nightgown. I kissed her neck then down to her nipples still covered by her clothes.

She moans.

My spit had circled the nipple part of the nightgown making it wet. I knelt down and spread her legs apart.

She shivered. “We shouldn’t... Darcy... we...” she stammered

“Tell me, Adrian don’t you want this?” I asked, my voice low. “Make me stop, Adrain,"I said with my head on hers, "and I’ll stop.”

“I can’t,” she said. “It would be a lie.”

“Then don’t.”

I kissed her again, deeper, to ease her up. My hands were on her waist.

“I need you,” she breathed. “God help me, I need you.”

Her words nearly destroyed my restraint. I kissed her neck, felt her heartbeat race.

“What were you imagining?” I murmured.

“You,” she whispered. “Just you. Touching me. Being with me.”

I knelt down, spread her legs and traced my tongue to her cunt.

She moaned, "Darcy..."

I'm sure that my tongue got her to cloud nine.

I sucked her gently, tracing all the parts of her cunt. I kissed her tights.

Then, her phone rang.

The sound shattered everything.

Adrian jumped, pulling away. “I have to answer it. It might be Pink.”

“Let it ring.”

“I can’t.” She got her phone on top of the bed with shaking hands. When she saw the screen, she sighed. “I have to take this call, I think this…” She gestured between us. “This is wrong. You’re my boss. If anyone finds out, I could lose everything. I'm just .”

“Adrian—”

“No!” She moved to the other side of the bed. The call has ended “We have to stop. Forget it happened.”

“How am I supposed to forget?” I asked.

“Because you have to!” Her voice broke. “I can’t risk it. Pink needs me. You have Brittany. The gala is tomorrow evening. We can’t make this worse.”

She was right. But that didn’t make it hurt less.

“This isn’t over,” I said quietly.

“It has to be.”

She opened the door, making it clear I should leave. Her face was calm again, walls back up.

I took my jacket and stopped where she stood. “Adrian you can keep running from this,” I said softly, “but it won’t disappear. What we have,it’s real.”

Then I walked out before either of us could make it worse or better.

---

The next morning, I came down expecting to see her and Pink at breakfast.

But the dining room was empty. Only my plate waited, with a folded note beside it.

Pink and I ate early. Hope you have a good day. —A

I looked at her handwriting. Neat. The feeling of the message under the words she wrote. She’s avoiding me.

I folded the note in my hand, taking one strawberry for the plate, remembered our kiss, her voice, her confession.

And still… she ran.

“Damn it,” I said, sipping up my coffee. It was still warm, so she must’ve left a few minutes ago.

But she was gone. And that was the problem.

---

At the office, I threw myself into work. It didn’t help. Every file, every contract blurred into her face. Her voice. Her lips.

Mark came in with paperwork. “Everything okay, sir?”

“Fine.”

“You seem… distracted.”

I ignored him. “Any updates on Martin?”

He nodded. “Yes. Our investigator saw him at his penthouse last night. But this morning—gone. The place was cleared out. Looks like he’s running.”

Good. My message had worked—the red X, the threat. He’d think twice before coming near Adrian or Pink again.

“Keep tracking him,” I said.

“Of course.” Mark paused. “Mr Rodrigo, is there something else on your mind?”

I paused, then asked, “If someone is avoiding you Mark, what would you do?”

He raised a brow. “Is this about Ms. Adrian?”

“Just answer.”

He thought for a moment. “Get her a gift. Something thoughtful. Personal. That makes her talk to you.”

“That sounds manipulative.”

He smiled faintly. “It's an honest effort, sir.”

I sighed. “What kind of gift?”

“Something small but meaningful. Not expensive—something that says you notice her.”

His words struck a chord. I nodded slowly. “Hold my calls.”

---

I called a book gift shop. I knew she liked books when she told Pink she read a lot.

“I need something ready in an hour,” I said. “Three books—these authors.”

They had them all.

“Wrap them. Add a note: For when you need to escape. Signed, D.”

An hour later, the package sat on my desk. Three books. A message that said I see you.

I left work early. This was something I almost never did.

---

Adrian was in the kitchen, cutting fruit for Pink’s snack when I got home. She froze when she heard me.

“Adrian.”

“Pink will be home soon,” she said quietly. “Her snack’s almost ready.”

“I’m not here about Pink.”

She didn’t even look at me. “ Mr. Rodrigo, what do you want?”

Mr. Rodrigo. The distance hurt more than I expected.

I placed the package on the counter. “This is for you.”

“I can’t accept gifts from you.”

“Why not?”

“Because you’re my boss.”

“Just open it.”

She shook her head. “Darcy—”

“Please.”

She paused. She neither said anything nor made a move.

Then slowly she untied the ribbons and the wraps covering the books. Her eyes wide open. “You got me these? How did you know?”

“I pay attention,” I said simply.

Her fingers traced the covers. Her voice softened. “This is too much.”

“It’s just books.”

“You know what I mean.” She looked at me, letting her guard down.

“Why are you doing this?” she asked.

“Because I can’t stop thinking about you Adrian. And because you’re avoiding me.”

“You know why.”

“Because of last night?”

She flushed. “It shouldn’t have happened Darcy. We were just lost in our emotions”

“But it did,” I said, stepping closer. “And pretending won’t erase it. Talk to me, Adrian.”

She looked at me, while she stopped acting cold. “Why are you doing this?”

I'd no answer to that question.I didn’t wait.

I got closer, held her by the waist and kissed her.

She froze. I could hear her heartbeat, then she fell towards me, kissing me back, fingers on my shirt.

The world disappeared. I felt only her warmth, her scent, her breath on mine.

“Daddy?”

We broke apart instantly.

Pink stood in the entrance, her backpack still in her hand, looking at us with wide eyes.

“Daddy,” she said slowly, confused. “Why were you kissing Ms. Adrian?”

Chapter 62Adrian’s POVThe charity gala date was tonight, and because of it, Pink came home early from school. At least to rest for a while, eat before we start preparing for the gala party. She was too excited to sit still during the ride with Leo.“Ms. Adrian, do you think Grandma and Grandpa will like my dress?” she asked for the tenth time.I smiled at her through the mirror. “They’ll love it, sweetheart. You’ll be the most beautiful girl there.”“Really?”“Really.”Exactly 4:30pm, in her room I helped wear the glittering pink dress she’d chosen herself. Every ruffle and button had to be perfect. The details of that dress was stunning.“There,” I said, stepping back. “You look like a princess.”She twirled, her skirt spinning. “I feel like one too!”I laughed and braided her hair, tucking in tiny white flowers. When I finished, she looked at herself and grinned.“Now you have to get ready,” she said. “We have to look pretty together.”“Alright, twenty minutes,” I promised. In my

I sat up and noticed I was completely naked under unfamiliar sheets.Panic hit first, then confusion.Where am I?The room was fancy — an upscale hotel I didn’t know. My clothes were scattered on the floor. I could only remember a little of last night. I remembered sitting at a bar, drinking martinis, talking with Vivienne about the gala. Then after she left, I kept drinking. Then I met a man.Oh no. The man.I had gone upstairs with someone. We kissed. Made love. The man fucked me like he missed me. Last night was magic. I admit.I held the sheet closer to my chest and I looked around the room. He had to be gone. Maybe I could get dressed and leave before anyone noticed.“Good morning, Brittany.” The voice came from the bathroom.A man walked in. He was perfectly dressed, calm, and he kne

I couldn't pick up in front of them, I wanted to take it in private. Then the call came in again when I was assisting Pink to hang her new dress in her closet. When I decided to check, the name on the screen made my stomach twist. It was one of the parole officers, Officer Chen."Miss Martinez," she said in her usual stern voice. "Adrian, your six-month review is coming up."I stepped into the hallway. “Yes, ma’am?”“You need to stay out of trouble. No incidents, no complaints. Understand?”“I understand, officer Chen .”“Good. Because if you lose your job — if Mr. Rodrigo fires you — you’ll be violating your parole. That means straight back to Rikers. No warnings, no appeals. Do you get that?”Her words hit me like ice water. “Yes. I’ll be careful.”“One mistake, and it’s over. Don’t waste your second chance.”“I won’t.”“Good. I’ll call you to schedule your review.”She hung up. Just like th

Chapter 58Brittany’s PovVivienne knew I hate waiting for someone that long. She knew and she'd kept me waiting for thirty minutes. Even though the bar was nice, the lights were not bright, just the way I liked it. It's quiet enough for private conversations, elegant enough, and it suits my standards. This is my first time here, I had picked it carefully. No one important ever came here, and that was exactly the point. I didn't want too many eyes since we had stormed other bars in town. I was finishing my second drink of martini when Vivienne walked in, glowing. I could tell she was happy.“You look like you just won the lottery, Vivienne ” I said as she sat next to me in the booth.“Better than the lottery, darling.” She grinned, signaling for champagne. “I have news. Good news.”I leaned forward. “Well, don’t leave me guessing. The gala’s in two days, Viv. Whatever it is, I need to hear it now.”Vivienne’s eyes sparkled. “I saw her. Adrian. Today.”My back stiffened. “Where exact

Chapter 57Adrian’s POVIt's 4:30pm, Pink was back from school already, and here I was, in the kitchen trying to make a snack for her when my phone rang. I nearly poured the flour away. Thank God. Darcy’s name showed up on the screen. My heart skipped.“Hello?” I said, trying to sound calm.“Adrian.” His voice was warm but tired. “I’ve got bad news. I can’t make it tonight for the shopping trip.”My stomach dropped. “Oh. Is everything okay?”“Just work problems. The Tokyo deal’s a mess, and I need to stay here to fix it. Leo will take you and Pink instead. I'll give you my black card, use it for whatever you need.”“Darcy, I can’t use your card. That’s…”“Yes, you can.” His tone softened but stayed firm. “Get something beautiful for the gala. Something that makes you feel confident. Don’t worry about the cost, the black card would serve its purpose.”His words made me feel happy. “Okay.”“How’s Pink? She was quiet this morning.”“She’s good. Excited to shop.
