Oliver's POV

The elevator ride up to the executive floor was silent, but my mind was moving a mile a minute. The marriage certificate was burning a hole in my inside pocket. I had the leverage I needed, but timing was everything.

When Elena and I stepped off the elevator, I gave her a quick nod. "Go find Frank. Have him brief you on the board members' names and faces. I need you ready."

"I'm on it," she said, her voice steady. She still looked a little pale from the sudden reality of the courthouse, but her chin was up. She was holding it together.

I walked into my office, throwing my jacket onto the leather sofa. Before I could even sit down at my desk, the door opened without a knock.

My uncle Richard walked in, a smooth, paternal smile plastered across his face. He looked entirely too relaxed for a man who was planning a corporate execution in less than two hours.

"Oliver, my boy," Richard said, closing the door behind him and strolling toward my desk. "I wanted to catch you before the chaos starts. You looked incredibly focused when you walked in just now. I assume you're preparing your defense for the board?"

"I don't need a defense, Richard," I said, leaning against the edge of my desk and crossing my arms. "The company numbers speak for themselves. The tech startup I built independently proves I know how to manage growth."

Richard let out a soft, condescending chuckle, shaking his head. "The board doesn't care about your side projects, Oliver. They care about stability here at Wyatt Enterprises. And right now, the press thinks you care more about toys than tennis matches with investors. You mentioned a surprise on the phone last night. I must admit, I'm dying to know what it is. If it's a new PR strategy, I can help you pitch it."

He was fishing, desperate to know what card I was holding so he could counter it before the meeting.

"You'll see it when the board sees it, Uncle," I said, keeping my smile completely blank. "I wouldn't want to ruin the anticipation."

Richard's smile tightened for a fraction of a second, the shark slipping through his warm facade before he recovered. "Very well. I just hope for your sake it's enough to sway them. A vote of no confidence is a very real possibility today. See you at two, nephew."

He turned and walked out, leaving me alone with my thoughts.

I sat down in my chair, tapping my fingers on the desk. Originally, I had thought about introducing Elena to Richard right now, letting the shock hit him early. But no. Richard was too good at maneuvering. If I gave him two hours, he would find a way to spin it, to question the validity of the marriage, or to pull board members aside to plant seeds of doubt.

The best course of action was an ambush. I would wait until the meeting was in full swing, when Richard thought he had me cornered in front of the entire room.

At exactly two o'clock, I walked into the grand boardroom. The massive mahogany table was surrounded by the twelve members of the board, with Richard sitting prominently near the head, looking like a king in waiting.

"Thank you all for coming on such short notice," I began, taking my place at the head of the table. I didn't wait for them to start throwing accusations. I immediately launched into the presentation, throwing the financial metrics of the upcoming tech merger onto the large screens.

For forty-five minutes, I battled them. Every time a board member brought up the tabloid headlines or the superyacht, I hit them back with hard data, solid projections, and the sheer volume of personal capital I was investing from my own tech startup ventures.

But Richard was doing his job well. He kept subtly shifting the conversation back to "character" and "the long-term public image of the Wyatt family name."

"We appreciate the numbers, Oliver," Richard said, standing up and addressing the table with a heavy, performative sigh. "But the market responds to leadership stability. The investors are nervous about a bachelor CEO who makes impulsive headlines. Unless there is a significant shift in your personal responsibility, I'm afraid I have to agree with the committee. I call for a formal vote to—"

The heavy oak doors of the boardroom swung open.

The entire room went completely dead silent. Every single head turned toward the entrance.

Elena stood in the doorway. She had taken off her blazer, wearing just the elegant, dark dress, her hair perfectly neat. She looked entirely composed, radiating a quiet, grounded confidence that instantly commanded the room's attention. She carried no notepad, no files—she didn't look like an assistant. She looked like she belonged.

She gave a small, beautifully apologetic smile, her eyes locking directly onto mine as she stepped into the room.

"I am so sorry I'm late, dear," Elena said, her voice smooth, clear, and perfectly carrying across the silent boardroom. "The traffic near the gallery was absolute murder."

I didn't miss a beat. A massive, genuine smile broke across my face as I stood up from my chair, walking around the long table to meet her halfway.

"No need to apologize, honey," I said, my voice dripping with an uncharacteristic, warm affection that made Julian's training from last night look amateur. I reached out, taking her hand smoothly and pulling her close to my side. Her fingers were warm, and for a split second, that same strange spark from this morning flared between us, but I kept my focus locked on the audience.

I turned back to the table, looking directly at my uncle Richard, whose face had gone completely, satisfyingly pale. His jaw was practically unhinged.

"Gentlemen, and members of the board," I said, my voice booming with absolute authority as I gestured to the woman beside me. "Before my uncle finishes his speech, I believe introductions are in order. This is Elena Wyatt. My wife."

Oliver’s POV The silence between us at the breakfast table felt warm and comfortable. Watching Elena talk about her parents and her little sister, I felt a deep sense of respect for her. She had carried so much heavy pain on her young shoulders without ever complaining or giving up. I finished my coffee, setting the white ceramic cup down on its saucer with a quiet clink. Looking across the table at her, I noticed the soft flush still resting on her cheeks. She looked relaxed now, but I hadn't forgotten the way her eyes had widened in panic when she first walked into the room this morning. I knew why she was nervous. I knew she was thinking about the kiss outside her bedroom door last night. I had purposely chosen not to bring it up. I saw how flighty she was when it came to us. If I brought up the kiss, if I pressed her about what it meant, I knew she would retreat behind her walls. She would start worrying about the contract, apologize for breaking the rules, and try to run awa

Elena’s POV The morning sun crept through the curtains, waking me up early. The moment my eyes opened, the soft magic of the night before vanished, replaced by a sudden wave of sheer panic. I sat up in bed, my heart instantly racing. Oh my God, I thought, pulling the blanket up to my chin. I kissed Oliver last night. I actually kissed my boss. My fake husband. I buried my face in my hands. How was I supposed to face him this morning? How was I supposed to walk into the kitchen, look him in the eye, and pretend like I didn't completely ruin the boundaries of our contract? For an hour, I paced back and forth in my bedroom. I tried on three different outfits before settling on a simple jeans and sweater combination. I brushed my hair, checked the mirror five times, and took ten deep breaths before finally gathering the courage to open my door. I walked down the stairs slowly, every step feeling like a mile. When I reached the dining room, I held my breath and looked around. The ta

Oliver’s POVThe quiet click of Elena’s bedroom door closing echoed through the empty hallway.I stood rooted to the spot, my hand still raised in the air where her face had been just seconds ago. My skin was still warm from her touch, and my lips were tingling from the softness of hers.I stared at the closed wooden door, my heart hammering against my ribs like a trapped bird.Part of me wanted to step forward, raise my hand, and knock on the wood. *Should I talk to her about it? Should I turn the handle and go into her room right now?*I took a half-step toward her door, my fingers hovering over the polished handle. But I stopped myself. If I went in there right now, with my chest burning and my mind spinning, I didn't know what I would say. I didn't know if I could keep the distance we were supposed to have.Slowly, I let my hand drop to my side. I turned around, walked down the hall to my own bedroom, and pushed the door shut behind me.I didn't turn on the lights. I just walked o

Even if some of them were secretly wondering about my sudden appearance in Oliver’s life, no one showed it. Everyone treated me with immense respect, hanging onto my every word and congratulating us on our marriage.By the time the event wound down and we stepped back into the quiet backseat of the black limousine, my feet were aching, but my heart was lighter than it had been in months. The car moved smoothly through the quiet, lit-up city streets.I leaned back against the leather seat, turning my head to look at Oliver. He had loosened his black bow tie slightly, looking relaxed as he stared out the window."Oliver?" I said softly. He turned his head toward me, his dark eyes

Oliver’s POVThe grand ballroom of the hotel was filled with bright lights, towering floral arrangements, and the soft hum of classical music playing in the background. Every major board member, shareholder, and corporate partner of Sterling Global and Wyatt Enterprises was in the room.I stood on the raised stage, holding the heavy gold pen as I signed my name at the bottom of the final contract. Beside me, the CEO of Sterling Group signed his copy, and we shook hands in front of a sea of flashing cameras.Once the clapping quieted down, I stepped up to the podium microphone. I looked across the crowded room until my eyes found Elena standing near the front row, glowing in her deep emerald gown."Tonight is not just a major victory for our company," I said, my voice carrying clearly through the speakers. "It is also a deeply personal milestone for me. Standing beside me through this entire process has been my incredible partner. I want to officially introduce you all to my wife, Elen

Elena’s POVFriday evening arrived sooner than I expected. After spending the morning at the office finishing up the last-minute preparations for the Sterling Group deal, I went back home to the penthouse around four o'clock to get ready for the party. When I opened the front door, I stopped right in my tracks. The living room was full of people. Three women in matching black aprons and two men with large metallic cases were standing near the couch. On a tall rolling rack in the center of the room hung my deep emerald green gown from *Aurelia*, neatly steamed and ready."Mrs. Wyatt?" a woman with short blonde hair asked, stepping forward with a bright smile. "I'm Sarah. Mr. Wyatt sent us to help you get ready for the evening."I stood there, completely surprised. "Oh... I didn't know he was sending a whole team.""He wanted to make sure everything was perfect for you tonight," Sarah said smoothly, gesturing toward the hallway. "Lead the way to your room, Mrs. Wyatt.
