Elena's POV

The city clerk’s office did not look like a place where dreams went to die, but it certainly didn’t look like a wedding venue either. It smelled of wet umbrellas, industrial floor wax, and cheap perfume.

I stood under the flickering fluorescent lights of Manhattan Civil Court, staring down at a white piece of paper. My signature looked shaky next to Oliver’s bold, clean cursive. With a single stamp from a bored-looking clerk in a beige cardigan, it was over.

We were married.

"Congratulations," the clerk muttered, not looking up as she slid our copy of the certificate across the laminate counter. "Next."

Oliver took the paper before I could even touch it, slipping it into the inner pocket of his charcoal suit coat. "Thank you," he said smoothly, turning on his heel. "Let’s go, Elena."

I followed him out of the building, my heels clicking loudly against the marble floors of the hallway. My chest felt tight, the reality of what I had just done pressing down on my lungs. *I am a wife,* I thought, the word feeling heavy and completely wrong in my mind. *I am Oliver Wyatt’s wife.*

The second we stepped through the heavy glass doors of the courthouse and onto the bustling sidewalk, Oliver pulled out his phone. His thumbs flew across the screen with practiced speed.

"I’m messaging Arthur now," he said, his voice entirely professional as he started walking toward the curb where his sleek black town car was idling. "The wire transfer for the one million dollars is being initiated as we speak. I'm having him send thirty thousand directly to the hospital’s billing department first to guarantee the receipt before noon. The remaining nine hundred and seventy thousand will hit your personal account within the hour."

I stopped walking, pulling my phone from my blazer pocket. My fingers were trembling so much I almost dropped it. I opened my banking app, sitting on the homepage, waiting.

Two minutes passed in complete silence. The roar of New York traffic swirled around us, but my entire universe was shrunk down to a glowing five-inch screen.

Then, it blinked.

The balance, which had been sitting at a tragic fourteen dollars and fifty-two cents for the last three weeks, suddenly shifted. A comma appeared. Then another.

$970,014.52.

A gasp escaped my lips before I could stop it. I pressed my hand over my mouth, staring at the numbers until my eyes burned. It was real. It wasn't a dream. The hospital was getting their deposit, and Chloe’s surgery was officially safe. I had enough money to buy her medications, pay for her therapy, and ensure she never had to worry about a single thing for the rest of her recovery.

"Is it there?" Oliver asked, stopping a few paces ahead of me and looking back over his shoulder.

I looked up at him, my eyes swimming with unshed tears. For all his arrogance and his cold, calculating nature, he had kept his word. "Yes," I choked out, my voice thick with emotion. "It's there. They just sent the confirmation text from the hospital, too. The deposit is cleared."

Oliver nodded once, a look of grim satisfaction crossing his features. "Good. Your sister is taken care of. Now, it's time to take care of my board of directors."

He opened the door to the town car, gesturing for me to get in. "We have exactly three hours before the emergency meeting. We need to get you back to the office, get Frank to brief you on the seating arrangements, and make sure you look like a woman who is madly in love with her new husband."

I stepped into the plush, leather-scented interior of the car, the door shutting out the noise of the city. As Oliver slid into the seat next to me, the vehicle pulled smoothly into the traffic, heading straight toward the towering glass skyscraper of Wyatt Enterprises.

The easy part was over. I had saved my sister, but now I had to walk into a boardroom full of sharks and convince them that a billionaire playboy had completely changed his life for an ordinary assistant.

I clutched my purse tightly against my lap, staring out the tinted window. Just play the part, I whispered to myself. For Chloe. Just play the part.

  • Playboy CEO Contract Wife    CHAPTER 29

Oliver’s POV The silence between us at the breakfast table felt warm and comfortable. Watching Elena talk about her parents and her little sister, I felt a deep sense of respect for her. She had carried so much heavy pain on her young shoulders without ever complaining or giving up. I finished my coffee, setting the white ceramic cup down on its saucer with a quiet clink. Looking across the table at her, I noticed the soft flush still resting on her cheeks. She looked relaxed now, but I hadn't forgotten the way her eyes had widened in panic when she first walked into the room this morning. I knew why she was nervous. I knew she was thinking about the kiss outside her bedroom door last night. I had purposely chosen not to bring it up. I saw how flighty she was when it came to us. If I brought up the kiss, if I pressed her about what it meant, I knew she would retreat behind her walls. She would start worrying about the contract, apologize for breaking the rules, and try to run awa

Elena’s POV The morning sun crept through the curtains, waking me up early. The moment my eyes opened, the soft magic of the night before vanished, replaced by a sudden wave of sheer panic. I sat up in bed, my heart instantly racing. Oh my God, I thought, pulling the blanket up to my chin. I kissed Oliver last night. I actually kissed my boss. My fake husband. I buried my face in my hands. How was I supposed to face him this morning? How was I supposed to walk into the kitchen, look him in the eye, and pretend like I didn't completely ruin the boundaries of our contract? For an hour, I paced back and forth in my bedroom. I tried on three different outfits before settling on a simple jeans and sweater combination. I brushed my hair, checked the mirror five times, and took ten deep breaths before finally gathering the courage to open my door. I walked down the stairs slowly, every step feeling like a mile. When I reached the dining room, I held my breath and looked around. The ta

Oliver’s POVThe quiet click of Elena’s bedroom door closing echoed through the empty hallway.I stood rooted to the spot, my hand still raised in the air where her face had been just seconds ago. My skin was still warm from her touch, and my lips were tingling from the softness of hers.I stared at the closed wooden door, my heart hammering against my ribs like a trapped bird.Part of me wanted to step forward, raise my hand, and knock on the wood. *Should I talk to her about it? Should I turn the handle and go into her room right now?*I took a half-step toward her door, my fingers hovering over the polished handle. But I stopped myself. If I went in there right now, with my chest burning and my mind spinning, I didn't know what I would say. I didn't know if I could keep the distance we were supposed to have.Slowly, I let my hand drop to my side. I turned around, walked down the hall to my own bedroom, and pushed the door shut behind me.I didn't turn on the lights. I just walked o

Even if some of them were secretly wondering about my sudden appearance in Oliver’s life, no one showed it. Everyone treated me with immense respect, hanging onto my every word and congratulating us on our marriage.By the time the event wound down and we stepped back into the quiet backseat of the black limousine, my feet were aching, but my heart was lighter than it had been in months. The car moved smoothly through the quiet, lit-up city streets.I leaned back against the leather seat, turning my head to look at Oliver. He had loosened his black bow tie slightly, looking relaxed as he stared out the window."Oliver?" I said softly. He turned his head toward me, his dark eyes

Oliver’s POVThe grand ballroom of the hotel was filled with bright lights, towering floral arrangements, and the soft hum of classical music playing in the background. Every major board member, shareholder, and corporate partner of Sterling Global and Wyatt Enterprises was in the room.I stood on the raised stage, holding the heavy gold pen as I signed my name at the bottom of the final contract. Beside me, the CEO of Sterling Group signed his copy, and we shook hands in front of a sea of flashing cameras.Once the clapping quieted down, I stepped up to the podium microphone. I looked across the crowded room until my eyes found Elena standing near the front row, glowing in her deep emerald gown."Tonight is not just a major victory for our company," I said, my voice carrying clearly through the speakers. "It is also a deeply personal milestone for me. Standing beside me through this entire process has been my incredible partner. I want to officially introduce you all to my wife, Elen

  • Playboy CEO Contract Wife    CHAPTER 24

Elena’s POVFriday evening arrived sooner than I expected. After spending the morning at the office finishing up the last-minute preparations for the Sterling Group deal, I went back home to the penthouse around four o'clock to get ready for the party. When I opened the front door, I stopped right in my tracks. The living room was full of people. Three women in matching black aprons and two men with large metallic cases were standing near the couch. On a tall rolling rack in the center of the room hung my deep emerald green gown from *Aurelia*, neatly steamed and ready."Mrs. Wyatt?" a woman with short blonde hair asked, stepping forward with a bright smile. "I'm Sarah. Mr. Wyatt sent us to help you get ready for the evening."I stood there, completely surprised. "Oh... I didn't know he was sending a whole team.""He wanted to make sure everything was perfect for you tonight," Sarah said smoothly, gesturing toward the hallway. "Lead the way to your room, Mrs. Wyatt. We'll set everythi
