MasukLauren's P.O.V.
I groaned in pain, trying to move my body a little, but screamed in pain. My whole body felt like it was crushed under a fully loaded truck. "Lauren.... Lauren." I heard Joyce calling my name worriedly, but I was in so much pain that I only whimpered again instead of opening my eyes.
My eyelids felt too heavy to even move a muscle in there.
"Lauren. Listen to the doctor, love. He is going to examine you," she instructed me worriedly, but I stopped whimpering when I registered only one word.
Doctor????
Where am I?
"Ms. Shaw. I am Dr. Vincent Froster. I am your attending doctor. You were brought to the hospital ER two days ago after being in a serious accident. You were badly injured with a fractured right arm, a deep wound on your forehead, and three broken ribs. Luckily, there was no head trauma or any injured internal organs."
I slowly tried to open my eyes while listening to a very gentle male voice, I guess the doctor that Joyce mentioned before.
"Th... then why am I in so much pain?" I groaned in pain again while trying to open my eyes. My voice was completely dry and hoarse. It took me a few seconds to realize that it was me who asked that question. I was so thirsty that I wanted something warm or cool to soothe my throat.
"You were unconscious for two days, Ms. Shaw. Of course, you will be in pain for a few minutes, and then it will ease." He comforted me. I felt someone taking my wrist. I would have yanked my hand away from his grip if I hadn't known that it was the doctor who touched me.
I have a problem with strangers' touches, and often it makes me hurt the stranger who made the mistake of touching me.
"You scared me to death, girl. You don't know in what state I was when someone called me from your phone and told me that you were in an accident and in this hospital." Joyce started blabbering worriedly while the doctor continued examining me.
"Who called you?" I asked her but groaned in pain again. My throat was completely parched.
"I .... I don't know. He was gone when I reached here, but he signed the surgery form as your husband. The nurses said that he had a mask on his face, but he was tall with a killing body."
Here goes my condition in the drain. Joyce and his craziness towards handsome men.
"And he is also the one who paid for your surgery and your hospitalization before leaving the hospital. He will be super rich who just threw away a few hundred thousand to save a life and didn't even leave any contact information." I was surprised to hear this part, though.
It was weird, but I guess there are still good people in this world. I will find him later and will return the money with a whole-hearted thanks and a gift to show my gratitude.
"I am giving you water to drink, Ms. Shaw, but you only need to take two sips. If everything stays okay, then you can drink some more water in a few minutes," Dr. Fraser instructed me in a gentle tone.
I nodded slowly as I couldn't move my head quickly. My head was still hurting badly.
Joyce brought a small paper cup to me, which had some warm water. I looked at that cup greedily. She chuckled, but I didn't pay attention to her as my eyes were on the cup.
As per the doctor's instructions, she only let me have two sips, but the warm water did a miracle on my throat. I felt relieved of dryness and pain in my throat.
Dr. Froster nodded in satisfaction after some time when I didn't show any discomfort after drinking water.
"This is a good sign, Ms. Shaw. After five minutes, you can have a few more sips, but not the whole cup, okay? The nurse will give you a painkiller for your pain. Call me if you feel even a slight discomfort, okay?" He instructed me and gave me a questioning look in the end.
"Roger that, Mr. Froster." I wanted to reply with these words with a goofy grin, but I winced in pain when my throat hurt as soon as I uttered the first word.
He smiled while shaking his head and then signaled the nurse standing beside him.
He gave me a curt nod and walked out of the room. "Your actual husband called you yesterday, asking about your whereabouts. When I told him that you were in an accident and in critical condition, he didn't believe me, you know? The audacity of that man to suspect my words." Joyce grumbled while telling me what happened when I was unconscious.
The nurse slipped her hand under my neck and helped me move my head up a little so that I could drink some water.
"He came here and.... almost hit Dr. Froster when Dr. Froster told him that you are critical and it's not sure if you will be able to survive the day or not. He actually looked so worried, as if he were a devoted husband, not a s*umbag." She continued telling me, making faces in disgust and hatred.
I felt bitter in my heart. I thought that I would never feel heartbroken, but....
Who am I kidding?
I wasn't in love with him when I accepted this assignment, but yes, I was in love for more than a year.
So, yeah. I still had lingering feelings for him in my heart.
"He stayed only for half an hour before his b*tch called him. I was standing near him, so I heard her voice. God, Lauren! How could he digest such a sugary voice?" I just watched her while she continued telling me everything. She sometimes became a bit dramatic, and right now was the same time.
She threw her hands in the air while making a few weird gestures and then shuddered her body so badly in the end as if she were scared of something.
"He shot up on his feet as if he was sitting on pins and needles, not on a comfortable sofa, and ran out of the room. He didn't even look at you once before running out of the room." She continued ranting angrily.
She suddenly stopped and looked at me with a pitiful gaze.
"It's okay, girl. You have me. You don't need a man to comfort you." She comforted me while taking my hand in hers but didn't move my hand from the bed.
"Yeah. I know." I replied briefly as I was still in pain.
"I planned everything for you after you are discharged," she announced proudly, and I knitted my brows in confusion.
"You are going for a trip to Europe after your discharge, which means you will go straight to the airport after getting out of the hospital. The whole trip is for one month, and you will come back a day before the last day of the cooling-off period," she continued telling me her plan.
My heart skipped a beat when I realized that I signed the divorce papers before the accident.
"If you want to know if he filed for the divorce or not, the answer is no. When I asked the reason, he refused to say a word and said that you didn't agree to his only condition for the divorce. He will not file for the divorce until you agree to that condition."
The anger immediately simmered in my heart.
"I know what you are feeling, love, but he didn't know me. He didn't know that he messed with the wrong girl. Leave everything to me and Caellum. Rest well, concentrate on your recovery, and then go have some fun before coming back to the real world," she still comforted me in a commanding and confident voice.
I felt a tightness in my chest when she took Caellum's name.
Caellum is my elder brother, more like a parent figure to me. He stopped me from being so reckless three years ago, but as stubborn as I was, I refused to let him decide something for me and did what I felt was best for me.
In the end, I became the joker in this circus.
Both I and Joyce looked at the door when we heard it opening again.
"What the f**k are you doing here? Get out." Joyce burst into anger, shooting up to her feet as soon as he entered the room.
Gabriel’s P.O.V. (Continued)She is going to pay.Celia knew me very well, and yet she tried to mess up with me.She is going to pay for it with her life.“Tell Gloria not to let that infuser in my room for the time being,” I instructed Victor calmly, thinking about what I was going to do with Celia.“Ms. Ashford has a debt of approx. 10 million, and the person is now pressing her for the repayment, but he isn’t acting alone.” Victor continued calmly, going through the contents on his tablet.“But this isn’t the main concern here. The concern is the timeline.” He added and looked at me with a concerned look.I furrowed my brows, waiting for him to clarify.“This mysterious man appeared around Ms. Ashford after Ms. Shaw appeared in your life here.” All the lines on my forehead straightened immediately.“Ms. Ashford was desperate to get some financial help, and he set a perfect trap for her. She …. She got involved in… in attending private booths in clubs as an escort, started gambling,
Gabriel’s P.O.V.“The Shaws and the Holsters are friends from generations, but they never have any marriage alliance or a business arrangement for marriage. According to the information I received, their friendship has no business interest involved.” Victor reported calmly, his eyes glued on his tablet.I listened to him intently.“Mr. Caellum Shaw and Mr. Vincent Holster have been friends ever since they started walking, but their friendship strengthened after they met again in primary school.”He paused and took a deep breath.“We can say that Mr. Vincent Holster has seen Ms Lauren Shaw grew up in front of his eyes.”My jaw tightened, but there was nothing that I could do to reverse this.“After they started dating eight years ago, Mr. Vincent Holster’s mother, Mrs. Serena Holster, never approved their relationship because she wanted a woman devoted to home and Mr. Vincent Holster instead of having her own career.”I scowled. What era is this?Every woman thinks about having her own
Vincent’s P.O.V. (Continued)“Hey,” I called her, but almost broke into a run when she approached the main door instead of the bathroom door, as I thought that she wanted to go to the bathroom.I didn’t try to stop her, though.I just followed her outside the room with my phone recording her.I wanted to record it and show it to Caellum and her tomorrow morning. We had cameras here. Yet I recorded it from a close distance. Her eyes were open, but she wasn’t blinking. They were lifeless, just like when a person sleepwalks.I was just two steps behind her, enough distance to not let her sense my presence behind her.But close enough to save her from a fall or a collision. She walked in steady steps. She was already familiar with the layout of the penthouse. She didn’t even falter once on the stairs. Her pace was slow, but not deliberately slow.It was as if she had the whole time in the world to go downstairs.I slowly followed her, curious to see what she really wanted to do.She stopp
Vincent’s P.O.V. (Continued)Lauren told us once that she was missing so many memories of her youth. We believed in her.And now, reading this, I actually felt scared for her.He took advantage of a child’s innocence with his fake care.I needed to ask Caellum if she had ever given her that chocolate.I continued reading with a storm going on inside my mind.I didn’t need to wait for long when an entry about the orphanage came.“Mom promised me that she will take me to the orphanage, but she is still on her business trip. What do I do now?Mom said that there are so many children there.I want to meet them. But I can’t go there without Mom.I really want to go there.”She made some sad and crying emojis on the rest of the page. She wanted to go there badly just because there were so many children.I continued flipping pages to know when she went to the orphanage for the first time. But the rest of the pages didn’t have anything about that green-eyed uncle and the orphanage. She wrote
Vincent’s P.O.V.“When will you come to sleep?” Lauren asked me sleepily, making me look at her.I still had some tasks to finish before sleeping tonight.“Just ten more minutes, love. You sleep.” I answered her coaxingly. She mumbled something and then put her head down on the pillow.I smiled helplessly and continued finishing my work. But it was just an excuse.I needed to go through her journal in her cloud.I had everything downloaded on my laptop already. But I still needed her to fall asleep before I started going through her journals.I had her permission, but I didn’t want things to be awkward between us.After finishing reviewing the last file, I sent everything to Nolan, I opened the folder that had everything that can answer so many questions related to Lauren and her condition. No one other than me and Caellum knew that she had regained her memories. So, Liam and Roman’s sudden arrival in her life rang an alarm in my mind.If what Lauren told me about Roman, his arrival s
Lauren’s P.O.V. Lauren’s P.O.V. (Continued)I looked at Vincent and then back to Gabriel, who was now coming towards us.Now I understand the meaning of Vincent’s earlier statement.“You should have told me,” I muttered angrily, huffed, and moved back to the table.Suddenly, the food looked bland and tasteless.I
Gabriel’s P.O.V.“You’re home.” I smiled tiredly when Celia welcomed me with a soft smile.I put down my suit jacket on the backrest of the couch and crouched in front of her wheelchair.“Why are you still awake? It’s past midnight, love.” I asked her in concern, taking her hand in mine.“I was wai
Lauren’s P.O.V. (Continued)I didn’t take the call but stared at the screen blankly. The ringing went on until it stopped on its own.I looked at the horizon again.“If the lost memories are meant to return. They will return on their own. If not, make the new memories.”I scoffed bitterly. What if
Lauren’s P.O.V.I looked at the stack of cold white papers on which black letters were mocking at me.
