Chapter 17 – Coincidence

Juliet Pierce

I dragged myself through the rest of the night. Noah disappeared into his office and never came out, at least not while I was still there. Samy and Penelope kept asking what happened, but I wasn’t ready to talk. How do you explain that you were stupid enough to fall for a man after one kiss… and that the man is completely out of reach?

I had promised Atlas I’d help with the finances of his mom’s store. We agreed to meet at lunch. I woke up, soaked up every second with my babies, left them with Celeste, and headed to Brookfield Place.

I’d never been there before, so I texted Atlas to meet me at the entrance. The second I arrived, there he was.

“Ju…”

“Good afternoon, Mr. Atlas,” I smiled. “And please, just Atlas from now on.”

“Atlas it is.”

He flashed that easy smile and led me inside. The store was on the second floor. He explained he was keeping it closed because he was selling it. He handed me the files, and within seconds I was lost in numbers, my happy place. I was so focused I didn’t even notice my hair falling over my face, pen between my teeth like always.

Then I felt his fingers.

“How are you even seeing anything with all this hair in your eyes?” Atlas teased softly.

“It’s the effect numbers have on me,” I laughed.

He tucked the strands behind my ear, then brushed the rest over my shoulder.

“Much better.”

Heat rushed to my cheeks.

“Thank you…” I mumbled, suddenly shy.

His phone rang. He answered without breaking eye contact.

“Reed.” He listened for a few seconds. “I’m taking Ju to lunch once we’re done here.” He hung up with a quick “okay.”

I turned to him. “You really don’t have to—”

One raised brow was enough to make me smile and correct myself.

“Atlas, you don’t have to take me to lunch. I can grab something here and head home.”

“No way. Don’t rob me of the pleasure of eating with a beautiful woman. That doesn’t happen often.”

“Yeah, right,” I snorted before I could stop myself. “With that face? Beautiful women must be lining up.”

Shit. Did I just say that out loud?

“So you think I’m handsome, huh?” His grin was pure mischief.

“Y-yes. Very handsome.”

“Thank you. Though ‘very’ might be pushing it.”

We both laughed, and thank God he took it as a joke.

Fifteen minutes later everything was done: spreadsheets perfect, bills paid, supplier folders organized.

“Ju, Declan wasn’t exaggerating. This is flawless. If I weren’t the one selling, I’d buy the place myself.”

“Now you’re the one exaggerating…”

“I’m dead serious. You made the profit margins crystal clear, highlighted every strength. You just made this store irresistible. Congratulations.”

“Thank you…” I whispered, cheeks burning again.

We packed up. Atlas called the potential buyer to schedule a visit, then guided me to the elevators.

“My car’s in the basement. Come on, I’m feeding you.”

I followed. In the parking garage he stopped in front of a gleaming blue Bugatti that looked like it belonged in a museum.

“Miss Pierce,” he said with an exaggerated gallantry, opening the door.

“How chivalrous, Mr. Wilson.” He winked, closed the door, and circled to the driver’s side.

The restaurant wasn’t far. Conversation flowed easy, light, fun. Today there was no boss vibe; just warmth in his eyes, in his smile, in every word.

We pulled up to a place that screamed money. The kind where you probably pay for the air you breathe.

I looked at the perfectly dressed people walking in, then down at my simple black blouse. Atlas noticed immediately and took my hands.

“Everything okay?”

“Atlas… I’m not dressed for a place like this.” I tugged at my shirt like it could magically turn into couture.

“Ju, you look perfect.”

The valet opened my door and offered his hand. I took it. The second my heels hit the sidewalk, Atlas was at my side.

His palm settled on the small of my back, gentle but unmistakably possessive, guiding me inside.

The hostess lit up the moment she saw him.

“Mr. Wilson, good to see you. Your table is ready.”

“Thank you, Tatiana.”

He pulled out my chair. I sat. He sat across from me. The wine he ordered probably cost more than my monthly rent.

I leaned over the table and whispered, “You didn’t have to order something that expensive.”

He mirrored me, leaning in. “But I wanted to.” We both laughed like conspirators.

Lunch was incredible. The company even better. Atlas teased me about getting tipsy after two glasses of wine. For the first time in years, I forgot everything: the club, the interview, the locker room, Noah.

I was in the middle of telling him, red-faced, about my embarrassment delivering that accessory last night, and he was cracking up at my “innocence,” when a deep, authoritative voice cut through our bubble.

“I hope I’m not interrupting your date.”

My laugh died. My spine went rigid. Words vanished.

Atlas, however, stayed perfectly relaxed.

“Blake. What a coincidence.”

Juliet PierceI tried to pretend Noah’s presence didn’t affect me. I kept laughing with Atlas and Declan, kept the mood light. But I felt his eyes on me the whole time, and the tension rolling off him every time I spoke to Atlas, especially Atlas, was impossible to miss. When Declan asked for my help with spreadsheets, I almost said no. Extra money is always welcome, but working at the company again meant facing Noah in his own territory. Atlas gave me that encouraging smile and little nod, so I said yes. Great. Now I’d spend the entire weekend dreading Monday.Atlas had to leave suddenly. I noticed the urgency, but didn’t pry. I made a mental note to text him later to check if everything was okay.Declan offered to walk me out. Noah decided otherwise. Just like that, as if my opinion didn’t matter. And in the end, it didn’t.We got into his car. He asked for my address. I didn’t want him driving me to the subway, let alone all the way home. I’d already had enough Noah Blake for one a

Noah BlakeI went after Juliet. We kissed again, harder, deeper, like the world was ending. Then, at the peak of it, she told me to stop. I saw it in her eyes: she was waiting for me to say something, anything, that proved I could give her what she “wants and needs.” But I can’t. So I said nothing.I locked myself in my club office and watched her on the monitors all night. Those eyes don’t just call to me; they speak. And still, I can’t give in.She says she can’t be the kind of woman I like. Truth is, she’s exactly the kind I want… and apparently the only one I can’t have.Saturday came. I had to go to the office; I really do need an assistant. The France trip is in ten days. Declan came to help, and like every Saturday we decided to grab lunch together. He called Atlas to join us.“He’s taking Ju to lunch,” Declan told me on the phone. My blood turned to fire.We walked into the restaurant we always go to, and there they were. She was laughing, wine glass in hand, looking more beau

Chapter 16 – Whatever This Feeling IsJuliet PierceI couldn’t look back. I didn’t have the strength to face him again. What the hell is happening to me? I’m not a teenager anymore, swooning just because a man kissed me once. I’m a grown woman. Mature. Responsible… Yeah, right. Who am I trying to fool?Noah undoes me in ways I can’t explain, and seeing him with that woman on her knees shattered something inside me.I asked Atlas for a few minutes because I “wasn’t feeling well.” He let me go without a single question.I ran to the locker room, sat on the bench, hugged my knees to my chest, and tried to calm my body, my mind… and whatever was happening in my heart.Click. The lock turned.I looked up.There he was, those impossible green eyes fixed on me.“Can I help you with something, Mr. Noah?” I tried to sound steady. I failed. I always fail with him.“Why did you run out like that?”“My job was to deliver the accessory. I did. Then I returned to my post.”“I thought your post was

Chapter 15 – Can I Help You?Noah BlakeEver since the interview, Juliet hasn’t left my head for a single second. The urge to go back, to call her and say “yes, the job is yours” has been eating me alive. But she has kids. And kids complicate everything.I need an assistant who’s available 24/7—in every possible way. No conflicts, no emergencies, no divided loyalties. The CEO of Blake Investments needs someone who puts the job first. And that’s exactly what Juliet is… except I know damn well that if it ever came down to choosing between serving me and her children, her children would win every single time. The week at the office was pure chaos, mostly because Reed wouldn’t shut up about how stupid I was for letting her go.“She’s perfect, man.” “Look at this résumé.” “She speaks fluent French.” “Blake, she’s literally perfect for you!”By Friday night I was done listening.I didn’t want to see her at the club. Not yet. Then an old submissive showed up, and I needed to blow off steam.

Chapter 14 – SpellboundJuliet PierceThe week flew by in a blur. No job. No new interviews. But I still had the club, and the money Atlas pays is more than enough to keep us afloat for now. After my almost-accident, I didn’t see Chris again. And honestly? I thanked the heavens for that. After the way he looked at me, the way he spoke… Forget it, Juliet. You already have enough problems, and one of them is almost six-foot-four, built like steel, with eyes that burn straight through you and a mouth… God, what is happening to me?“Ju?!” Samy called from the living room.“Bedroom!”“Wow!” She stopped dead in the doorway. “You look stunning! Loving the makeup and those earrings.”“I officially retired the mask. Looks like this waitress gig is going to last longer than I thought.”“For me it can last forever,” Samy laughed. “What Atlas pays us in one night is almost what we made in three with Ed.”“True. And since single moms apparently don’t stand a chance in this city…” I let the frustra
