Chapter 18 – Let’s Go

Noah Blake

I went after Juliet. We kissed again, harder, deeper, like the world was ending. Then, at the peak of it, she told me to stop. I saw it in her eyes: she was waiting for me to say something, anything, that proved I could give her what she “wants and needs.” But I can’t. So I said nothing.

I locked myself in my club office and watched her on the monitors all night. Those eyes don’t just call to me; they speak. And still, I can’t give in.

She says she can’t be the kind of woman I like. Truth is, she’s exactly the kind I want… and apparently the only one I can’t have.

Saturday came. I had to go to the office; I really do need an assistant. The France trip is in ten days. Declan came to help, and like every Saturday we decided to grab lunch together. He called Atlas to join us.

“He’s taking Ju to lunch,” Declan told me on the phone.

My blood turned to fire.

We walked into the restaurant we always go to, and there they were. She was laughing, wine glass in hand, looking more beautiful than any woman has the right to. And the way Atlas was looking at her… He wants her. And if he keeps making her smile like that, he’ll have her.

Declan headed to the table. I changed direction and went straight to them.

“I hope I’m not interrupting your date,” I said, failing to hide the edge in my voice.

Juliet’s smile died. She just stared. Atlas answered, cool as ever.

“Blake. What a coincidence.”

“Shouldn’t be. We eat here every Saturday.”

“Right, but Reed called a while ago. I thought you’d already eaten.”

“You thought wrong.”

“We’re done eating, but we still have half a bottle of wine. Join us if you want.”

He was calm, almost daring me to make a scene. I signaled Tatiana.

“We’ll sit with Wilson. Prepare everything and let Reed know.”

“Of course, Mr. Blake.”

I took the chair beside Juliet.

“Well, well…” Declan arrived, pulling out his own seat. “How are you, Ju?”

“I’m good, Mr. Reed.” She smiled at him. At me? Nothing.

“Please, call me Declan. I like my name in your mouth much better than ‘mister.’”

Atlas and I both snapped our heads toward him. Declan knows exactly what he’s doing; he can smell blood in the water.

“Alright… Declan,” she said softly.

I got lost staring at her lips, remembering how they felt against mine less than twenty-four hours ago.

“So,” Declan continued, “how did it go at the store?”

“Man, you were right. Ju is incredible,” Atlas said, eyes shining. Not just professional admiration. He’s enchanted.

“Atlas is exaggerating,” she blushed.

“Atlas?” I repeated, sarcasm dripping.

“Yeah,” he shot back. “Like Declan, I asked her to drop the ‘mister.’”

The waiter came. We ordered. Atlas insisted Juliet get dessert. Food arrived. I barely touched mine. She devoured her dessert, laughed with Atlas, chatted easily with Declan about everything and nothing. She was light, funny, brilliant.

“Ju, I could actually use help with some spreadsheets too,” Declan said. “Would you do me the same favor you did Atlas today?”

Her eyes flicked to Atlas. He gave her an encouraging nod.

“Of course. Just tell me when and where.”

“At the office. Same place you interviewed. Noah’s still without an assistant and France is in ten days. You’d save my life.”

She glanced at me, bit her lip; fuck, I almost dragged her out of there right then.

“Just let me know, Mr. Reed.”

“Great. Monday if possible. And please, Declan.”

She smiled. “Okay.”

Almost an hour later she spoke up.

“I have to go. It’s a long ride to Brooklyn, and I need to be at the club tonight. My bosses are very strict about punctuality.”

“Only if you’re talking about Noah,” Declan teased. “Atlas and I are pretty chill.”

She laughed. Atlas stood.

“I’ll give you a ride.”

“No way, it’s too far. Subway’s faster. Don’t worry.”

“Then let me at least walk you to the station.”

His phone rang before they could leave. When he hung up, urgency filled his voice.

“I’m so sorry, Ju. My sister needs me.” We both knew Athena’s issues. “Can one of you make sure she gets home safe?”

“I got it,” Declan said.

Atlas kissed the top of her head. “Sorry for bailing like this. Thank you for today.”

“Thank you. See you tonight.”

He left.

“I’ll settle the bill and walk you out,” Declan told her.

“I’ll take her,” I said.

Declan raised a brow. “You sure?”

“Yes.”

“You guys really don’t have to—”

“I’m taking you. End of discussion.”

She opened her mouth to argue, met my eyes, and shut it again.

We walked out. Declan said goodbye. The valet brought my Aston Martin.

Once inside, I turned to her.

“Address.”

“I can take the subway. Traffic on the bridge this time—”

“Juliet. Give me your address. Or I’ll find it myself.”

She stared at me with those ocean eyes. Something new flickered there, defiance.

“You know I can still get out of this car.”

I reached forward and hit the central lock. Click.

I turned to her with a half-smile.

“Let’s go, Miss Pierce… I dare you to try.”

Juliet PierceI tried to pretend Noah’s presence didn’t affect me. I kept laughing with Atlas and Declan, kept the mood light. But I felt his eyes on me the whole time, and the tension rolling off him every time I spoke to Atlas, especially Atlas, was impossible to miss. When Declan asked for my help with spreadsheets, I almost said no. Extra money is always welcome, but working at the company again meant facing Noah in his own territory. Atlas gave me that encouraging smile and little nod, so I said yes. Great. Now I’d spend the entire weekend dreading Monday.Atlas had to leave suddenly. I noticed the urgency, but didn’t pry. I made a mental note to text him later to check if everything was okay.Declan offered to walk me out. Noah decided otherwise. Just like that, as if my opinion didn’t matter. And in the end, it didn’t.We got into his car. He asked for my address. I didn’t want him driving me to the subway, let alone all the way home. I’d already had enough Noah Blake for one a

Chapter 17 – CoincidenceJuliet PierceI dragged myself through the rest of the night. Noah disappeared into his office and never came out, at least not while I was still there. Samy and Penelope kept asking what happened, but I wasn’t ready to talk. How do you explain that you were stupid enough to fall for a man after one kiss… and that the man is completely out of reach?I had promised Atlas I’d help with the finances of his mom’s store. We agreed to meet at lunch. I woke up, soaked up every second with my babies, left them with Celeste, and headed to Brookfield Place.I’d never been there before, so I texted Atlas to meet me at the entrance. The second I arrived, there he was.“Ju…”“Good afternoon, Mr. Atlas,” I smiled. “And please, just Atlas from now on.”“Atlas it is.”He flashed that easy smile and led me inside. The store was on the second floor. He explained he was keeping it closed because he was selling it. He handed me the files, and within seconds I was lost in numbers,

Chapter 16 – Whatever This Feeling IsJuliet PierceI couldn’t look back. I didn’t have the strength to face him again. What the hell is happening to me? I’m not a teenager anymore, swooning just because a man kissed me once. I’m a grown woman. Mature. Responsible… Yeah, right. Who am I trying to fool?Noah undoes me in ways I can’t explain, and seeing him with that woman on her knees shattered something inside me.I asked Atlas for a few minutes because I “wasn’t feeling well.” He let me go without a single question.I ran to the locker room, sat on the bench, hugged my knees to my chest, and tried to calm my body, my mind… and whatever was happening in my heart.Click. The lock turned.I looked up.There he was, those impossible green eyes fixed on me.“Can I help you with something, Mr. Noah?” I tried to sound steady. I failed. I always fail with him.“Why did you run out like that?”“My job was to deliver the accessory. I did. Then I returned to my post.”“I thought your post was

Chapter 15 – Can I Help You?Noah BlakeEver since the interview, Juliet hasn’t left my head for a single second. The urge to go back, to call her and say “yes, the job is yours” has been eating me alive. But she has kids. And kids complicate everything.I need an assistant who’s available 24/7—in every possible way. No conflicts, no emergencies, no divided loyalties. The CEO of Blake Investments needs someone who puts the job first. And that’s exactly what Juliet is… except I know damn well that if it ever came down to choosing between serving me and her children, her children would win every single time. The week at the office was pure chaos, mostly because Reed wouldn’t shut up about how stupid I was for letting her go.“She’s perfect, man.” “Look at this résumé.” “She speaks fluent French.” “Blake, she’s literally perfect for you!”By Friday night I was done listening.I didn’t want to see her at the club. Not yet. Then an old submissive showed up, and I needed to blow off steam.

Chapter 14 – SpellboundJuliet PierceThe week flew by in a blur. No job. No new interviews. But I still had the club, and the money Atlas pays is more than enough to keep us afloat for now. After my almost-accident, I didn’t see Chris again. And honestly? I thanked the heavens for that. After the way he looked at me, the way he spoke… Forget it, Juliet. You already have enough problems, and one of them is almost six-foot-four, built like steel, with eyes that burn straight through you and a mouth… God, what is happening to me?“Ju?!” Samy called from the living room.“Bedroom!”“Wow!” She stopped dead in the doorway. “You look stunning! Loving the makeup and those earrings.”“I officially retired the mask. Looks like this waitress gig is going to last longer than I thought.”“For me it can last forever,” Samy laughed. “What Atlas pays us in one night is almost what we made in three with Ed.”“True. And since single moms apparently don’t stand a chance in this city…” I let the frustra
