Tamara

The next day felt different. Not because anything had changed, but because I had.

There was a stillness in the air. Not the peaceful kind—this one felt heavy, like a warning. I couldn’t sit still. My chest kept tightening every few minutes, like my body knew something I hadn’t figured out yet.

I kept glancing at the door like it owed me something. Freedom, maybe. Or a reason to keep holding on. I didn’t even wait for Sean to call me. I went downstairs, already dressed, pretending like I needed fresh air. I had no plan, just instinct. My mind was louder than anything around me.

Sean was in the living room, sitting like he always did—arms folded, back straight, watching a football replay like it mattered. The screen lit his face, but he wasn’t really watching. He was just existing. Like me.

“I want to go out,” I said quietly, standing at the edge of the room.

Sean didn’t even look up right away. “Where to?”

“Anywhere.”

He eyed me, squinting slightly. “You need to breathe, huh?”

  • Possessed by the Devil   Chapter 53

LeonThe metal door groaned as I pushed it open, the weight of it heavy under my hand. The scent hit me first. Blood. Sweat. The sharp, sour tang of fear thick in the cold air. The kind of smell that clung to skin, to clothes, to the walls. The kind of smell that never left.I stepped into the underground room, my boots echoing against the concrete floor. The light above flickered faintly, casting shadows over the two pieces of shit chained to the wall. Their arms stretched high, their shirts torn, their faces already swollen and bruised. The metallic rattle of the chains was the only sound they could manage now.I rolled my sleeves up slowly. My knuckles were still raw from earlier, but I didn’t give a fuck. Not tonight. Not after what almost happened to her.I stood in front of them, eyes narrowing. “You’ve had enough time to think,” I said, voice low. “Now you’re going to tell me. Who the fuck sent you?”One of them groaned, barely lifting his head. The one with the scar. The one w

TamaraI woke up slowly, the ceiling unfamiliar. White. Bright. Too quiet. My body ached like I’d been tossed off a cliff, every inch of me humming with dull pain. My ribs throbbed. My lips were dry. Breathing felt like chewing on glass. I blinked again, trying to adjust to the light. The smell was off — lemony, clean, sterile. Not a hospital. Too quiet for a hospital. No beeping machines. No nurses. Just silence and that faint, cold lemon scent.I turned my head, slowly. The tall windows, the polished grey curtains, the sharp-edged furniture... This was Leon’s house. His guest room, specifically. I recognized it now. The one with nothing personal — no flowers, no frames, just silence and control. Everything about it screamed him.The memories came rushing back all at once. The alley. The men. My screams. The way I fought. The moment I knew I was going to die. My chest tightened. I gripped the sheets and tried to calm myself, but my hands were trembling. Then the door opened.Sean ste

  • Possessed by the Devil   Chapter 50

TamaraOne week later.I stood near the curtain, arms folded tight against my chest, pretending like I was just stretching my neck or fixing the blinds, but the truth was—I’d been standing there for a while now. Waiting. Watching the driveway through the narrow slit between the fabric. It was later than usual. Leon never came back this late from work unless something else was going on. And I didn’t want to think about what “something else” could mean. Then I saw the car pull in.My chest tensed. I watched the familiar black Mercedes roll in like it owned the driveway. My breath slowed as I saw the passenger door open, and Leon stepped out.He didn’t look tired. Or drained. Or stressed. His face was unreadable, calm in a way that made me uneasy. His jacket was draped over his shoulder casually, and he walked like he had nowhere to be in a hurry. Then I saw the driver door open.Sheila.The sight of her made my stomach flip instantly. My arms dropped to my side. My throat dried. She ste

  • Possessed by the Devil   Chapter 49

TamaraMy body shuddered the second I walked into the house with Leon. His hand had been cold against mine, cold like the silence between us since last night when he stormed out without a word. I followed him in, the door shutting behind me with a soft click that still managed to sound louder than it should’ve in the silence. He didn’t look back. Not even once."Tamara," he growled, deep from the back of his throat, like the word burned just coming out. I froze. My name sounded different in his mouth now, like it carried weight it didn’t used to. My feet refused to move. I just stood there, helpless, trying to speak but the words stuck, choking inside my throat. His broad back faced me as he walked toward the bar shelf. His hands slid into his pockets like he was trying to keep them from doing something reckless. The way his shoulders moved — stiff, strained — it made something cold creep along my spine. He towered over everything in that room without even trying. He picked up a bottl

  • Possessed by the Devil   Chapter 48

LeonThe morning didn’t start so much as it dragged itself open by the teeth. I’d been up for hours already, sleep having come in fits — the kind where your body rests but your mind won’t shut the hell up. I stood on the terrace with a cigarette burning between my fingers, watching the sky change from dark steel to sickly gray. One of those mornings that makes you feel like the world forgot to turn the lights all the way on.I didn’t smoke often. Only when my head felt like it was grinding against itself, and today was one of those days.Wind moved across the yard in lazy strokes, carrying the sharp bite of cold with it. I didn’t bother throwing on a jacket. Didn’t need comfort. Just needed air.The creak of the terrace door caught my ear. I didn’t have to look. I already knew it was Sean."He's ready," Sean said, voice clipped. Behind him, Jasper stumbled out like he’d been yanked from the underworld itself. He was barefoot. Shirt sticking to his chest, stained with old sweat. His ha
