CRYSTAL.

Jaden led me back to the table, but we were pretty much done with the meal before the call. So, there was no need to sit.

He sat anyway. I didn’t have a choice but to stand there when his hand closed around my wrist. His grip was gentle, but his eyes said otherwise.

I looked up at him and immediately wished I hadn’t.

His jaw was tight. His eyes were dark. I saw the burning rage and jealousy in them.

"What did he want?" He asked firmly, but I decided against telling him about Noah's visit just yet. I didn't want to ruin this beautiful dinner we just had.

"Nothing serious. Just checking on Jason." I lied. But it was half the truth.

His thumb shifted against the inside of my wrist. A barely-there movement. My pulse jumped traitorously beneath it, and I knew he felt it.

“I’m tired,” I added quickly. “I’d like to go to bed now.” I tried to pull my hand free, forcing a smile. “Thank you for dinner. I really did enjoy it.”

He didn’t release me.

JADEN.Everything had been under control.Meticulously planned. Designed to run without my presence for a few days. And now this.I didn’t need Bellamy Darren’s name flashed across a screen to know he was behind it. I felt his fingerprints all over the situation. That man thrived on disruption. On stealing what wasn’t his and burning whatever he couldn’t own. That was exactly why only a handful of people knew about my next move. Because that slimy bastard will not only sabotage my efforts, he will go to any length to steal the idea and make it his.The Federal Grid Initiative wasn’t just another project—it was leverage. Power. A future sealed with government backing. My proposal to the government for the new project will be ready in two weeks. Once it is submitted and approved, Bellamy can go fuck himself with whatever information he stumbles across after that. "I guess I'd see you in Illinois," Crystal said behind me, her arms wrapped around herself like she was keeping hers

CRYSTAL. The hot water was doing absolutely nothing to soothe the ache between my legs. I'd been sitting in a tub full of hot water, but the bruises still hurt like he was still inside me. Last night should have been one of those nights I never regretted. Now, staring at my reflection through the fogged glass, I wasn’t so sure.Jaden had been furious. There was no softer word for it. No version of the last part of last night where that wasn’t the truth. He couldn't tell me otherwise.Last night was all about his raw, unfiltered anger, and he had taken it out on me. I straddled him. I couldn't escape even when I tried a dozen times, when I became too sore from his brutal thrusts. I could barely take all of him in that position on a normal day, let alone when his thrusts were so angry that they drove into me without mercy. It was too much for my body to handle, and yet I took it anyway. It was both pain and pleasure. He felt better after the sex... I guess. Because he carr

CRYSTAL. Maybe I’d been too harsh on Jaden earlier. But someone had to say the things no one ever dared to say to him. Someone had to drag him back to reality when he started believing the whole world was at the tip of his fingers. I wasn’t excited about marrying Noah. The word 'marriage' itself felt hollow with him. In fact, we'll get a divorce almost immediately. All we wanted was for the news to give everyone what they actually wanted, even though I had nothing to gain from it. I lied. The kiss, the sex, the lunch, everything actually meant something I had made sure never to admit even to myself. But I couldn't let Jaden know about how I felt. He was doing whatever he thought best, but the sooner he understands that we can never work out, the better for us all. That was my decision. So tell me why my heart betrayed me the moment we stepped into the garden—why it stuttered, foolish and soft, when I saw the dinner he’d set up for us under the open sky?Candles. Flowers

JADEN. It's been two days since our stay together, and, call me a fool, but I felt hopeful. Things between Crystal and me had shifted—from ice-cold to something bearable and almost gentle.Although we hadn't shared any more intimate moments after our shared kiss under the stars... But, fuck. I couldn't get my mind off it, no matter how hard I tried. This particular kiss was stubborn and vivid, refusing to loosen its hold on me.Some kisses did that. They stayed.Sometimes, such intense kisses were better than sex. We kissed like we had all the time in the world. It was slow, sensual, consuming, and worth dying for. And the fact that Crystal had let me stay there with her and speak everything I couldn’t say with words for nearly an hour… I couldn’t be blamed for hoping it meant something.I watched the doctors administer Jason's morning doses and cleaned him up. Crystal had insisted on being here, but I asked her to go shower and take care of herself. I assured her it was n

JADEN. “My company can survive without me for another two weeks, Kellan,” I said into the phone, my voice flat.Kellan had a talent for getting on my nerves. It was almost impressive how efficiently he did it.“You’re being a reckless fool,” he snapped back. “You keep choosing this girl every single time and throwing years of work into jeopardy.”Kellan never liked Crystal, even when we were younger. And I didn't expect him to. Hell, he wasn't even supposed to like my woman! But he was taking his dislike a bit too far, and soon, I'll be forced to choose between him and her. He exhaled sharply, the sound of someone fighting the urge to yell.“You have worked your ass off for this project,” he said. “You cannot disappear three weeks before launch. You need to be present. You need to oversee this personally.” I could imagine him pinching the bridge of his nose in frustration."I abandoned her before. I won't do that again." I said calmly, like his words weren't grating on my l
