Michelle's POV
I dress up for work the next day, feeling stronger than ever. I take my time to look pretty, not wanting the past incidents to define me. I choose a skirt that compliments my skin and felt very pretty. I finish my make-up and stare at my reflection at the mirror, heaving a sigh at how impossible it was to conceal the dark circles under my eyes. I shook off every negative energy and set out for work. I barely had time to put on my apron, eager to start working when my boss walked on me with a sardonic expression. "What are you doing here?" My boss asked, hands akimbo and without a trace of humor. "Sir, I... I came to work," I answered, confused about his question. "Where were you yesterday? And don't lie you didn't beep my calls. I reached out to you because we had a handful here, yet you never responded." He said deadpan. "Errr, Sir, I was not well. I'm sorry, I couldn't reach out to you to tell you." I said apologetically. He was clearly having none of it as he waved his hands to shut me up. "You're a lying bitch. Lizzy saw you in Dan Mario's Club dancing your ass off on Friday," he said with a quizzical expression. Lizzy stopped her cleaning and shot me an apologetic face. It isn't her fault but then, I rolled my eyes at her before tearing my gaze away. "I'm sorry boss, it won't happen again." I said, hoping that the conversation will end. "Get back to work and consider this your Christmas bonus. The next time this happens, you will be sacked." He said, before walking out on me. I took a deep breath of relief and joined Lizzy at the counter. "I'm sorry babes. I should not have told him. But he was so inquisitive. I had no other choice," she said genuinely. "I understand. It's not your fault. I know how depressing he can be." I said with a smile. "With his huge ass," she added and we laughed. "But seriously girl, what were you doing there?" She asked inquisitively. "I should ask the same," I replied with a smirk. "Okay, I will go first. I went with a couple of friends who were so into this Zayn Welms guy. They bought five tickets and the guy who was supposed to complete them fell terribly sick and couldn't go, hence, yours truly was dragged into a club. That was where I saw you. You were with your best friend, dancing widely at the beat of the song. I wanted to come over to say hi, but then you were gone, puff" she said with a dramatic disappearance, "like a wisp of smoke. I shrugged and went home," she finished. "I'm a Zayn Welms fan. In fact, he's my celebrity crush," I said with a giggle which prompted a snort from her. " I went to the club to see him, but somehow I got drunk in the process and was raped. I went to get drugs only for my boyfriend to sleep with my best friend." I said with a shrug. Lizzy's mouth opened wide in an exaggerated shock. "I'm so sorry honey. No one should face this traumatic experiences you just faced. Meanwhile, it's high time I tell you that your best friend is such a bitch." she said and I laughed. I turn around to make coffee for the next customer. "Speak of the devil," Lizzy whispered and shook her head. "A burger and coke please," I hear the unmistakable voice from behind. I didn't expect Chole to come back after betraying me. "Lizzy, please take over. I need to use the restroom," I said without turning back, desperate to leave. "Okay Mitch, I got you." Lizzy responded before turning towards the counter. "Wait Mitch! Don't go please. I really need to speak with you." She said, her voice breaking. "I'm sorry, I really need to pee," I answered before dashing towards the restroom. I enter the bathroom and stare at my reflection in the mirror. I didn't want to ruin my make-up and make Chole think I'm still broken. "Of course you're still broken," an inner mind whispered. I wait and pace around in the bathroom for a while before coming out. The first person I bump into was Chole. "I really need to talk to you," she said, stressing every word. Now, she's dead serious. "I still have 10 minutes more," I said, praying she has something else to occupy her. The last thing I needed was a reminder of what happened. "I'll wait for you," she said with a small smile that didn't quite reach her eyes. I nodded faintly and nudged my elbows towards a seat she usually occupied whenever she comes here. She understood and went over there. I pleaded inwardly for the time to stretch to avoid meeting her, but mother luck was against me, as a few minutes later, it was 2pm. "What do you want to talk about?" I asked with a straight face. "Can I come back for the meantime please? My rent has not yet expired and I don't know where else to stay. I'll move out next month, I promise." she said looking at me squarely in the face. I let out an unamusing laughter. "You are joking right? You had the audacity to come here to ask that I let you back after all you did to me? I'm sorry Chole, but I won't." I said with finality. "It's still our house because my rent is part of it. I don't care if you forgive me because I know you won't. All I ask is that you let me stay in the house for a little while until I see a house of my own." she said with no trace of humor. "Fine," I said, surprising myself. "How much is your rent?" I asked with a smirk.MICHELLE'S POV I decided to find my footing around Aunt Rita's new place and subsequently search for a job. I knew that getting a high paying job will be difficult at my aunt's place will not be easy. I walked down the busy streets of Florida, feeling a sense of desperation creeping in. I had to find a job, and fast. My aunt's promise and the dwindling funds in my bank account were taking a toll on my mental health and I know that sonner than later, the little amount I have on me will finish too. As I turned a corner, after walking aimlessly, I spotted a small café tucked away on a quiet side of the street. The sign above the door read "Cozy Cup Café," a name I know Lizzy will definitely laugh at. What caught me was the aroma of freshly brewed coffee wafted out, enticing me enough to come inside. I pushed the door open and stepped inside, my eyes adjusting to the warm lighting. The café was cozy, with comfortable-looking armchairs and small tables scattered about. The walls w
MICHELLE'S POVI didn't want to get my hopes up, so I maintained a neutral look as I walked with the water. I walk towards her room and find her clutching her head with a frown. "What's wrong?" I asked, seeing her furrowed brows. "I...I think I have a concussion. The pain is unbearable." She whimpered and I stare at her in wonder."Do you think we should visit a hospital?" I asked."No, I'll be fine. I just need a pain relief drug and everything will be perfect," she said confidently and I find myself believing her. I help her take a pain reliever with the glass of tap water I fetched. I surprise myself by patting her back reassuring as she wrinkled her face from the taste of the medicine. I waited for the medicine to take effect and probably get a story behind her injury before leaving. I watch her gaze and break eye contact with me repeatedly. "What do you want to tell me aunt?" I ask making it easier for the both of us. "Nothing really. It's nothing," She ranted. Her eye
Michelle's POV I wait till dusk with my three luggages downstairs. The portal could not linger for long and left as soon as I payed him. I finally sighted my aunt coming back from wherever she went to and heavied a sigh of relief. At least, she didn't leave me till the next morning. "I've been waiting for ages Aunt. You didn't care to leave your keys behind or something," I said irritated. "Seems like someone has lost her manners. You never told me you were coming around today did you?" She asked before going upstairs. She was still as grumpy as ever! I made three trips carrying my heavy bags up to her floor without assistance. I was drenched with sweat by the time I was done with the last one. "You can retain your old room if you want. But just remember, nothing has changed." She said before disappearing into her room, shutting the door noisy to tell me not to disturb her for anything. I am elated because I won't mind sleeping on the couch, as long as I had a roof over
Mitchelle's POV I see Lizzy waiting expectantly for me at the door. "So? How did it go?" She asked in panic. "I told him he was an asshole and he gave me $20 dollars," I said with a satisfying grin. "Oh my God Mitch, I'm so proud of you girl. You finally put him in his place," she said with a smile. We giggled like kids until we entered into the store room. "I can't imagine his face when you told him that. I'm literally on top of the world girl!" She said still bemused by the incident. "Hopefully, he'll find a replacement. I pity the poor girls." She added with a mischievous sneer. "Girls? Wait... Don't tell me you're also..." I said confused. "Yes Mitch. Do you think I can stay and endure him? No baby, I'm out there to get a life like you are." She said without care. "Did you do it for me?" I asked emotionally. "I wish, but no. I did it for myself. Besides, I'm 23, I need to get myself a man." She said giggling. "Oh Lizzy. I really will miss you." I said teary
Mitchelle's POV I can't believe I was scammed online. I wept like a child, wondering what exactly I did wrong to the universe. I had a few days to be sent out of my apartment and I figured it would be wise if I started earlier to pack. I brought my boxes and started with the stuffs I knew won't be necessary for the time being. I genuflect where I will run to and stay for the time being. For a slight second, I almost considered Chole's proposal and immediately removed it from memory. "I can't allow her in after all she has done to me. Who knows, she might kill me the next time," I said, shaking my head repeatedly. I resume work the next day dejectedly and sluggishly. I decided that if my boss was cold-hearted to pay me, I can also be cold-hearted to work. "What's wrong with you? Why is your face that way?" Lizzy asked the moment she spotted me playing with the cleaning towel. "I'm considering my options, Lizzy. I will be thrown out soon enough if I don't pay up." I answere
Jordan's POV It turned out that Jason was bluffing about being the reason for Rosie's accident. He has been persistent with his disturbances and threats since then. It's been a week since Rosie's accident. Fortunately, Ryle wasn't at the hospital for long. She had a few cracked ribs and lost two molars and had Miranda gushing over her the moment she was wheeled out of the emergency room. Thankfully, we got home before Lucy could watch the news and search frantically for us. "You haven't had a conversation with me ever since that day. Talk to me, what's wrong?" I asked her the moment she turned to leave the dinning when she sighted me. "Nothing is wrong. I'm very fine," she said, removing my hands from hers. "No, you're not, and we will talk about it now." I said, pulling her towards a chair. "I don't want to do this right now, Jordan," she said defeated. "I don't too, but this is where we are, so tell me," I said. "I already told you about my feelings for you, appare
