Dacre’s pov

She got close to me and held my cheeks. “I just want what is best for you.”

I smiled. “I know.”

She smiled sadly. “I’ll try better.”

"Good," I said.

There was a pause at the other end.

“Yes, sir. I’ll take care of it.”

I hung up and leaned back in my couch as I stared at the ceiling.

There was no way in hell I was going to tell my mother how I met Katherine. Or that she had somehow managed to end up pregnant with my child. That wasn’t even possible! That night had been nothing but a big fat mistake—one which I couldn’t unmake—and now my mother wanted to meet her?

I stood up and began to pace. I fucking hated this feeling. This strange nervous energy. I was always in control. Of my companies. Of my home. Of my life.

But my mother? She could still pull strings when I believed I’d severed every last one.

My phone buzzed.

I lifted it.

It was a board member – Martin.

I sighed, and asked. “What is it?”
