Chapter 66: Emergency in Paradise

Day Two of the honeymoon started perfectly.

The sun was shining, the waves were gentle, and the breakfast table on the terrace was filled with tropical fruits, croissants, and freshly caught grilled lobster.

"Try this," Jackson cut a piece of lobster. "The chef caught it this morning."

Serenity smiled and leaned forward to take a bite. But as the smell of the seafood hit her nose, her stomach did a violent flip.

The smile vanished. Her face turned green.

"Urgh," Serenity clamped her hand over her mouth. She pushed the plate away and ran to the bathroom.

Jackson froze, his fork halfway to his mouth.

Then, panic exploded.

He dropped the fork and sprinted after her. He found her leaning over the sink, dry heaving.

"Serenity! What is it? Food poisoning?" Jackson grabbed a towel, his face pale. "Was it the lobster? I knew I shouldn't have trusted a chef I haven't vetted personally for ten years!"

"I'm... I'm okay," Serenity rinsed her mouth, feeling weak. "Just... a little nauseous."

"A little? You turned green!" Jackson guided her back to the bed, tucking her in as if she had a terminal illness.

He grabbed his satellite phone.

"Pilot! Start the jet!" Jackson shouted into the phone. "We are leaving. We need to get to the Mayo Clinic in America. No, Zurich might be faster. Or Singapore."

"Jackson, stop!" Serenity grabbed his hand. "Put the phone down. I don't need a hospital."

"You are sick!" Jackson argued, feeling her forehead. "Is it a tropical virus? Did a mosquito bite you? I told them to spray the island!"

"I'm not sick," Serenity sighed, looking at his terrified face. It was sweet, really. The man who faced down armies was scared of a tummy ache.

"Then what is it?"

Serenity bit her lip. She looked at her flat stomach. Then she looked at Jackson.

"We... haven't exactly been careful since the reconciliation, have we?" she whispered.

Jackson paused. He blinked. His brain, usually running at the speed of a supercomputer, crashed.

"Careful? You mean... protection?"

"We didn't use any," Serenity blushed. "Not on the night of the Gala. Not after the battle. And definitely not last night."

Jackson stared at her belly. His eyes widened slowly.

"Are you saying..." Jackson’s voice dropped to a whisper of awe. "Baby number three?"

"I don't know," Serenity shrugged. "Maybe it's just the lobster. But the smell... it reminded me of when I was carrying the twins."

Jackson didn't speak for a full minute.

Then, he moved.

He didn't call the pilot. He called his assistant, Luke, who was probably sleeping in New York.

"Boss? Is the island on fire?" Luke answered groggily.

"Luke. I need you to send a drone drop. Immediately."

"A drone drop? Sir, you are in the middle of the Pacific Ocean. What do you need? Ammo? Cash?"

"No," Jackson said seriously. "Pregnancy tests. All the brands. Clearblue, First Response, the digital ones. Send fifty of them."

"F...Fifty?" Luke choked. "Boss, are you serious?"

"And pickles. And ice cream. And verify if the local clinic has an ultrasound machine."

Jackson hung up. He turned back to Serenity, his eyes shining with an excitement that rivaled the sun.

"We wait," Jackson declared, sitting on the floor next to the bed and holding her hand. "The drone will be here in four hours."

Serenity laughed, ruffling his hair. "You really want another one? After Alex and Mia destroyed your home office?"

"I don't care," Jackson kissed her palm. "If it's you, Serenity... I want a football team."

Sparks showered from the ceiling. The sound of tearing metal was deafening. The dining car groaned and tilted violently to the right. Tables, chairs, and expensive wine bottles slid down the slope, crashing into the wall.Jackson slammed one hand into a window frame, his other arm locked around Serenity’s waist. He stopped them from sliding into the pile of broken glass below."Don't let go!" Jackson shouted over the noise.Serenity looked down. Through the shattered window beneath them, she saw nothing but swirling snow and darkness. They were dangling over a canyon."The coupling is breaking!" Serenity yelled, pointing to the metal hook connecting their car to the rest of the train. It was stretching, groaning under the weight.CLANG.The door at the top of the tilted car (the one Zero left through) was kicked open. Two figures rappelled down into the car on zip lines. They wore sleek, matte-black armor. Outside the window, nothing existed but snow and night.Jackson adjusted his cufflinks. Under his tuxedo, he was wearing a ceramic knife taped to his ribs—the only weapon the metal detectors didn't pick up.Serenity sat opposite him, looking breathtaking in a black velvet gown. She held a clutch that contained a small vial of Margaret’s anti-serum."Nervous?" I’m restraining myself from stabbing him with a fork.""Patience," Jackson whispered. The door at the end of the car slid open.A man walked in.He looked nothing like a villain. He was handsome, in his forties, wearing a grey suit that cost more than the train itself. He had silver hair and a s

"Close your eyes," Liam commanded softly. The nursery was dimly lit. Aurora and Alex lay on the large rug, pillows under their heads. Liam sat between them in a lotus position. Jackson and Serenity watched from the couch, feeling useless but alert."Grandpa, this is unscientific," Alex muttered, keeping one eye open. "Telepathy isn't real.""Quantum entanglement is," Liam placed a finger on Alex's forehead and another on Aurora's. "Connect."A pulse of violet light rippled through the room. The Dreamscape.Alex gasped. He wasn't on the rug anymore. He was standing on an endless plane of pure white water. The sky was white.
