Kai’s POV

Alex opened his mouth to speak, but I held up a hand, cutting him off. My heart was racing, my blood boiling.

“I came back for her. I need answers. And if what you told me is true…” I paused, my voice low and deadly, “then he’s going to pay for what he did to my mother.”

“Hmmm,” Alex muttered, rubbing the back of his neck. “Okay, since you’ve already made up your mind, there’s probably nothing I can say to change it. But… have you found any clues yet?”

I let out a frustrated sigh. “Not much. I tried getting close to the dungeon beneath the palace, but it’s heavily guarded. No one can enter without the King’s direct permission.”

Alex raised a brow. “So… what’s your plan now?”

I didn’t answer immediately. Instead, I gave him the look, the one I knew he couldn’t resist. His eyes narrowed.
