Nothing is more frightening than a fear you cannot name.

— Cornelia Funke

CAMELLIA

Whoever said children were a blessing clearly never chased one through mosquito-infested grass at dusk.

“Lilah, please” I hissed, pushing through the tall, itchy stalks, praying I wouldn’t lose sight of her tiny pink dress.

She darted deeper into the field like a fairy on crack, completely unfazed by my yelling. Of course she didn’t hear me,she was deaf. It gave her the ultimate superpower of ignoring me without consequences.

I finished work at the studio late, and since Lilah had to stay back with me, we missed the last bus home thanks to an impromptu team meeting that could’ve easily been a voice note.

Whatever glow was left in the sky had long given up, leaving the world steeped in night sounds, and of course, The only shortcut home ran straight through grass tall enough to hide a very energetic six-year-old with zero sense of danger.

I hadn’t taken that path in a while. The grass was now lon

Sex is the most fun you can have standing up.— Woody Allen.ALANNAI was thinking of ways to prove to camellia I wasn't the villain and Damien was over here clingy as hell.“Come on, baby, answer a dying man,” Damien murmured against my ear, grinding into me from behind.“Just the tip,” I warned, though we both knew I was lying.“His laugh was sharp, cruel. “Just the tip? Sweetheart, you’re not walking straight after this.”Damien was way different whenever we had sex.It was always the goofy ones. Before I could snap back, his hand wrapped around my throat, squeezing just enough to steal my breath as he bent me forward against the wall.My palms slapped the surface, pinned, helpless, while he pressed his cock between my thighs, sliding the thick head through my wetness.“You hear that?” he growled, stroking himself against me, slow and taunting. “Dripping for Daddy already. You fucking love being used, don’t you?”My body betrayed me with a shudder.“Say it,” he snapped, tightening

Well-behaved women rarely make history.— Laurel Thatcher Ulrich.CAMELLIA I kept getting sick.Every morning felt like a battle my body was losing before I even got out of bed. That damn stomach bug.“Come on, Camyyyy!” Lily whined, shaking me like I was a rag doll.“Lily… slow down,” I groaned, pressing a hand to my mouth as my breakfast threatened to make a dramatic reappearance.“Oh—sorry, sorry,” she said, finally letting go and patting my hair like I was some fragile little thing.“I don’t know, Lily… I just want to stay in bed and watch Criminal Finds,” I groaned, collapsing into the pillow.Lilah walked into the room, carrying a tray, wobbling slightly as she struggled to balance it.Darius loomed just behind her, hyping her on with a grin that made everything feel ten times more chaotic.“Thank you, baby,” I signed to her, taking the tablets from the tray and washing them down with a glass of water.“See? You’ve taken your medication! We can definitely go now,” Lily whined

We accept the love we think we deserve.— Stephen Chbosky.CAMELLIA I slapped Lucien twice. Then again. And again. Till my hands burned and his cheeks were bright red.He didn’t flinch once. Not even a twitch.“Do you feel better, my love?”I shoved at his chest, hitting him over and over while biting down hard on my lips, trying not to cry.“You can keep hitting me till you feel better. I deserve it,” he murmured.I hated how soft his tone was. I hated how he told me he left me and made me hurt like this.“I hate you so much,” I whispered, letting my hands fall limply to my sides. I gave up eventually, crying into his chest.“I didn’t touch another woman,” he whispered into my ear, his fingers tracing slow circles on my lower back.“Then why did the mark burn?” I demanded, hating how comfortable I still felt in his arms. His hand stilled. I braced myself for another excuse or another pretty lie to keep me hooked.“Selene tried to touch me… when my father drugged me,” he admitted in

Love is a temporary madness; it erupts like volcanoes and then subsides.— Louis de Bernières.CAMELLIA I was doing better—at least that’s what I kept telling myself for the past two weeks.Maybe I’d just been too distracted to let the heaviness sink in dealing with that stupid stomach bug.Darius had rushed into my room yesterday, holding my hair back to steady me while I vomited, and returned moments later with a doctor in tow.It was just a stomach bug.Beside me, Lily hummed softly, her reflection glowing in the mirror as she traced her lips with a deep red lipstick. The other girls had already scattered off to wherever their nights would take them in the club.“Somebody’s in a good mood,” I teased her.She smacked her lips dramatically and gave me a side-eye through the mirror.“Good mood? Babe, I stay in a good mood. Men cry when they see me in this lipstick.”I laughed, shaking my head. “Men cry when they see their wallets after you’re done with them, don’t flatter yourself.

Desire is a contract we make with ourselves.— William Shakespeare.ROWAN Lily made every second I waited for my mate worth it.The second she straddled me, I knew I was lost. Her slick heat slid down my cock, inch by inch, stretching her open until she sat fully on me.“Holy fuck—Lily,” I groaned, my fists clutching the sheets as her walls squeezed me like a vice.My cock twitched deep inside her, already leaking and begging for release. She grinned wickedly, bracing her palms on my chest as she started to move. Slow at first, she rolled her hips in lazy circles that had me grinding my teeth, fighting for control.“You like that?” she teased, her nails dragging down my chest. “You like me using you like this?”“Yes—god yes,” I gasped, thrusting up into her, my hips snapping uncontrollably. “You’re going to fucking break me, Lily.”“God, you’re big,” she moaned, riding me deeper, harder, until her ass slapped against my thighs. The sound was sticky and wet, each bounce smearing her
