Chapter 4

Alpha Kai

    The way Max blinks as he stares at me tells me that I'm in deep shit right now. He won't stop frustrating me until I talk to him about why I acted this way, and I'm not ready for that.

    "Uhm... I mean, you shouldn't be touching a woman like that. She... She's a woman... You should respect her," I try not to stutter, but I still end up doing it anyway.

    "Oh..." Max utters as he withdraws his hand from her shoulder, and I heave a silent sigh of relief. The way he looks at me doesn't look like he believed the excuse I just gave him.

    "Uhm... Alpha, you asked to see you," She breaks the awkward silence that assumed the air for quite some seconds now, and I gulp down nothing nervously. What should I tell her? I think I'm beginning to act foolish right now.

    "Yes, I did..." I pause and think of what to say to her for a few seconds.

    "I think it's time to change Ruby's wardrobe," I finally say, even though I know this is senseless. I mean, we just did that about one month ago, and even if it's going to be done again, it should be in two months. But what the hell am I supposed to tell her? I just called her here to see her face, and nothing else.

    "Oh, alright. I will see to that later, alpha," She replies to me, looking down at her feet, and I so much want her to raise her gaze and look at me. I enjoy staring into her eyes because of the feeling it always gives me.

    "Alright. If that is all for now, may I take my leave now, alpha? I still need to get the kids ready for their afternoon tutorials," She asks politely, and damn! I don't want her to go for fuck's sake, can't she sense that? I want her around me for no reason, but I know that I need to let her go, anyway.

    "Sure, you can go now," I say to her.

    "See you some other time, Ariel," Max says to her before she leaves, and I glare hard at him angrily. He still dares to say that in my presence. It seems like he wants to die.

    "What the hell was that, Max?" I ask him once she's out of the room, and he pulls a puzzled look.

    "I think I should be asking you that. You looked like you were going to devour me. What's happening? Don't tell me you've started sleeping with her already. Come on, Kai, this is too much..."

    "Just shut your mouth, you dumb ass. I'm not sleeping with her," I feel a bit hurt that he said that to me, but he's right anyway. I'm a freaking flirty man that sleeps with anything under skirt, but I don't even have that feeling toward Ariel. I can't explain what this feeling is, but it's not like how I feel toward other women.

    "Then what the hell was that? You looked like a jealous boyfriend and it's alarming because that wasn't the Kai I used to know," He shrugs, and I roll my eyes at him even though I know he's right.

    "What are you talking about?" I pull a nervous look.

    "Don't play dumb, dude. You know what I'm talking about. Do you have feelings for her? Is she your mate? Are you planning to take her to bed or something?" He bombards me with questions, and I almost scream at him. I should've expected this when I was busy acting all possessive here just now. Max will stop at nothing to ruin my day today, and it's literally all my fault.

    "When will you stop being all meddlesome, Max? You know this wouldn't have been the case if you were someone else, so just stop talking too much," I say to him coldly, but he just scoffs.

    "You..."

    "You were here to talk about Dante, right? Come on, let's talk about him. What do you think we should do, because there's no way I'll ever agree to meet with him," I say to him, trying to change the topic.

    "Then just give up trying to convince him..."

    "Are you kidding me right now, Max? You know how much important this is to me, so what are you talking about?" I scoff, and he shrugs.

    "You don't want to see him, he doesn't want to sign the contract without seeing you in person, and he doesn't want to see me either, so what possible solution can you think of?" He shrugs, and I sigh briefly.

    "You know what? Just go. I will find a solution to it later. For now, I want to be left alone," I say to him.

    "Alright. Call me if you need anything. Also, let's visit the club tonight if you don't mind. There are sexy women there that will keep you busy all night," He winks at me before he finally turns and strides out of my study, while I shake my head momentarily. This dude is crazy.

    Reaching out for my favorite werewolf's history book, I open it to the last page I was reading and continue my journey. This book has helped me so much, and I love it.

    'Ariel' her name suddenly rings in my head, and I sigh as I drop the book, and recline on the chair, throwing my head back. Why can't I get her off my head no matter how much I try to? What has she done to me?

    "Greetings, alpha. It's me, Ariel," Hearing her voice from outside a few minutes later, I quickly jerk up from my seat, and adjust myself like a woman seeing her crush. I quickly adjust my hair and my cloth to look perfect, before I usher her in.

    The door suddenly opens, and she walks in looking as beautiful as always. She has changed from the long gown she was wearing earlier, to a more sexy short loose gown that stops at her knees, and her hair packed in her usual style, ponytail. She looks extremely beautiful and sexy in the gown, or maybe it's just me hallucinating right now.

    "Alpha, I got the kids ready for the shopping. Lady Leila said she'll be taking them..."

    "No, we'll go together along with the kids," I quickly cut her off before she can complete her statement, and she blinks her eyes rapidly at me, as her pair of ocean blue eyes pierce into my soul. I feel my heart melt at the sight of her innocent yet enchanting eyes.

    "But alpha, lady Leila told me you have never done shopping for the kids before..." She pauses and bites her bottom lip. I love it when she does that. The truth is that I have never done shopping for my kids, since Leila does all that, but I just want to be around her.

    "Yes... I feel bored here, and I think it'll be nice hanging around outside the villa. Do you have a problem with that?" I ask her, sounding cold at the end, and she quickly shakes her head.

    "No, Alpha. It's fine," She quickly replies to me, and I nod my head.

    "Go get the kids and wait for me at the parking lot. I'll join you soon," I say to her, and she nods her head before she walks out of the study, and I sigh briefly. I think I'm losing my mind...
