Chapter 3

作者: Biggo
I only made my move after finding out that the Fergusons would be dining at an upscale restaurant. Surely they wouldn't commit murder in a public setting with plenty of other people around.

I'd done all kinds of jobs to earn money, so I happened to be acquainted with one of the restaurant's staff members. As a result, I got in without a hitch.

When I deliberately walked past the Fergusons, making sure they got a good look at my face, Mrs. Ferguson immediately grabbed my arm in agitation.

"Wait a minute! Did you grow up in Sunshine Children's Home?"

Even though she was smiling, every hair on my body stood on end. Still, I pretended to be startled. "That's right. And you are…"

Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson exchanged a glance. The two of them stood up, each taking one of my hands affectionately.

"You've come to reunite with us, haven't you?"

They repeated the whole story about how I had ended up getting switched as a baby. Everyone in the restaurant turned to look at us.

Keeping my expression stiff, I asked, "Are you sure I'm your biological son?"

The two of them stared intently at my face, the excitement in their eyes sending a shiver down my spine.

"You look so much like me!" Mrs. Ferguson exclaimed before yanking up my shirt while I was distracted. "And look! You have the birthmark, too! Why don't you come home with us tonight?"

I became even more terrified—because I'd just realized something. They'd said a lot of things up until now, but they never actually said outright that I was their biological son. They were just in a hurry to take me home with them!

Doing my best to stay calm, I asked with feigned joy, "Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson, is that why you think I'm your son?"

Seeing my doubtful expression, the two of them started to scrutinize me. "What's with you, you silly boy? You've already come to reunite with us, haven't you? And you have the birthmark and the features that prove you're our son, so why are you still asking us such questions?"

I could barely stop myself from frowning. They were still giving me maddeningly vague answers without actually addressing my question head-on.

Just when I was about to continue sussing them out, Mrs. Ferguson suddenly burst into tears, declaring, "It has to be you! Who else could it be? We're taking you home right this minute so that we can make it up to you for letting you suffer on your own for 20 years."

They were looking at me with eagerness and agitation, their eyes a little teary.

Growing up in the orphanage, I didn't get bullied or abused, but life wasn't easy either. There had been times when I was so starved that I even had to fight the stray dogs for food scraps.

At school, the others mocked me and pushed me around because I had no parents. Because of that, I used to dream of having a family of my own. I didn't need them to be rich. I just wanted someone who would stick up for me when other people hurt me.

So when the Fergusons showed up at the orphanage, I'd been pretty excited. If they were willing to give me the entire family fortune, that meant they must love me very much, right?

But that very night, they pushed me off the balcony without any hesitation.

"How dare you impersonate our son to enjoy our family's wealth, you vicious liar! What gives a bastard like you with no parents the audacity to set your sights on things that don't belong to you, huh? You can go to hell!"

The painful memories left me unnervingly calm. I tried to figure out why they acknowledged me as their real son, only to deny it afterward. Had I done something to cause a misunderstanding?

Out of nowhere, Mrs. Ferguson yanked on my arm and tried to pull me out of the restaurant. In her hurry, she knocked over the desserts on the table. But that didn't stop her.

Her reaction made me narrow my eyes. Suddenly, an answer came to me. My voice trembled as I said, "The real son is—"

Mrs. Ferguson cut me off. "It's you, of course!"

Her nails dug into my arm, and the look in her eyes terrified me.

"Why do you still have doubts about it?"

Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson also started to grow suspicious of Molly and Hank. Therefore, Molly, Hank, and Gary had to speed things along and lock away the real Fergusons, taking their place. And to get their hands on the family fortune, they launched a search for the real son. They figured that all they had to do was kill off the real son, and the wealth would end up in their hands. The asset transfer agreement I signed was never legally binding. It was only a tool they used to deceive everyone and convince the world they truly loved the son they'd just reunited with. That way, once the real son died, it would be a lot easier for them to escape suspicion. They had never intended to do a DNA test. Afraid of being found out, they focused all their attention on getting the assets as quickly as possible. Therefore, when they saw me at the restaurant, they wanted to bring me home and kill me that very day. However, I ended up escaping their clutches. This also explained why Simon, Tom, and

Tom, Luke, and Simon all had complicated expressions. After a long silence, Tom said, "But it still feels like a bit of a stretch to use that as the sole basis to confirm all three of them aren't the real Fergusons."Seeing the scowl on my face, he hastily added, "We're not doubting you, of course. It's just that we need to find more concrete evidence. Otherwise, considering what we've done, we might end up behind bars soon enough."Simon pointed at Gary and said, "He looks a lot like you. He just doesn't resemble your dad much.""Are you sure you're not just making wild guesses?" Luke mumbled.Simon immediately stomped on Luke's foot and rolled his eyes. "Stop wasting time with such stupid questions. We can just get another DNA test done to confirm whether they're the real Fergusons.""Wait a minute. Didn't they already do a DNA test?" Tom piped up. "It proved that they're related to William, so what's the use in doing another one?"I was starting to get annoyed by their lack o

Simon, Luke, and Tom were more united now than I'd ever seen them. The sight of this left me feeling a little dazed. The orphanage had limited resources, enough to just barely keep the children alive. From the very beginning, we'd get into physical fights over food, just to fill our bellies.I'd long since forgotten who had thrown the first punch. All I knew was that all four of us had the same goal—to steal the other three's food.Sometimes, people would come by the orphanage, looking to adopt a child. While it was obviously impossible for every child to get adopted, we all wanted to be one of the lucky ones. That way, we could finally live a comfortable life. Therefore, apart from doing our best to make a good impression, we would also try to make the other three embarrass themselves, so that the people who came to adopt wouldn't choose them. But in the end, all four of us had failed to get adopted. At the end of the day, we were just pitiful children who yearned for a family a

Even though Mr. Ferguson was howling in pain, he refused to change his story."We really are your parents! We've already given you the family fortune, so why would we try to kill you? I swear, it was just a joke to help you settle in!"Snorting, I increased the voltage of the stun baton. "It's fine if you don't talk. I already know the truth anyway."I only needed the evidence to prove everything. There had to be clues hidden in their room. Grabbing one of the decor items in the room, I knocked them out cold before heading off to search through their things. But I didn't notice that the moment I stepped out, the three people who had been pretending to be unconscious had already freed themselves from the restraints and followed after me.All three of them pounced on me at the same time. They pinned me down in the hallway and started hitting me."Get over yourself, you little bastard! How dare you treat us like that! We're going to make sure you die this time!"Gary stomped on my

Slowly, the bustle died out downstairs. The party had probably ended.I heard approaching footsteps belonging to three people, and they all came marching in after opening the door. Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson had entered with Gary Ferguson, who was supposedly my older brother. The moment the three of them saw me, their expressions instantly twisted with anger."You're nothing but a phony! How dare you show up here pretending to be our son!"The trio shoved me right toward the edge of the balcony, preparing to throw me over."Go to hell!"My body tilted over the edge. It all felt like a repeat of my previous life. But at that very moment, I activated the stun baton I'd been holding the entire time and aimed it at them. They jolted from the electric shock and released me, but I didn't stop there. I continued to stun them again and again, only halting once all three had blacked out. With some difficulty, I dragged the three of them together and arranged them back-to-back, tying them up

"I'm the Fergusons' son," I declared, my voice confident yet helpless at the same time.Simon, Luke, and Tom looked angry enough to hit me. "We also think it's you, but the issue is that the Fergusons will kill you all the same!"They started to fret."The Fergusons went to the trouble of preparing that asset transfer agreement for their biological son to sign once they found him. So why did they kill you after you'd already proven that you're their real son?" Simon clutched his head and wondered."Is it because they thought the DNA report was a fake? That you were lying to them?"I shook my head. "Regardless of the reason, I know one thing is certain—I'm most definitely the long-lost son of the Ferguson family."They couldn't figure out what I was planning, nor could they stop me. In the end, they could only agree to play along with me as needed. On the third day, Michael arrived with the Ferguson couple, who brought the results of the DNA test with them. As expected, the resul
