Chapter 4

Author: Biggo
Mr. Ferguson shoved Mrs. Ferguson aside before looking at me with a kindly smile.

"Your mother is just a little emotional because she's missed you so much. You don't need to be scared. I've already contacted our lawyer. Once you come home with us, you can sign the agreement and inherit the family's entire billion-dollar fortune. Consider it our way of making up for all your suffering."

I'd never been more alarmed than I was at that moment. I hastily plucked a hair from my head and handed it over to them. I told them that I would wait until the DNA results confirmed our relationship before returning to the family, as I didn't want to get my hopes up prematurely. Once I fed them the excuse, I hurried off at once.

The restaurant was packed, so the Fergusons didn't come after me.

When I got back to the orphanage, Luke, Simon, and Tom immediately surrounded me.

"So what's the secret?"

"I don't know," I said, groaning.

The three of them looked like they were on the verge of breaking down. Gaze hollow, they started mumbling, "Even if we pool our money together, we still can't afford a single flight ticket. We can't even make a run for it."

"Why don't we just take our own lives? That's still better than being murdered by someone else."

Nevertheless, none of them could actually bring themselves to do that.

Luke grabbed all of our wrists.

"Look, why don't we just dissolve a bunch of sleeping pills in some water, and we can all drink it together. That probably won't be very painful, right?"

I hastily reassured them, "It's not a lost cause yet! Someone still needs to admit to being the Fergusons' son. I'll do it."

The three of them looked at me like I had lost my mind.

"Why are you saying that you'll do it when you know you'll die if you do? What's the point?"

"Are you that greedy? You'd throw your life away just for money?"

Memories of the horrific ways the three of them had died came flooding back to all of us. One had been ripped into pieces. Another had been skinned alive. And the third had been mauled to death by a dog.

Each of them had died most painfully, and I was no exception. I was still alive when my body hit the ground. I had to suffer the excruciating agony of having every bone in my body broken, painfully aware that my life was slowly coming to an end.

The so-called billion-dollar fortune had been our one-way ticket to hell.

Clutching the photocopy of the asset transfer agreement, I declared in a firm voice, "Yes. I know I'll be walking to my doom if I knock on the Fergusons' door and claim that I'm their son. But this is also our only chance of making it out of this alive."

But they didn't understand what I was saying.

"Why do you say that?"

I glanced at them but didn't bother explaining. At the moment, I wasn't even sure if I would succeed in exposing the truth. I figured that it would be better if I kept it a secret from them. That way, even if I failed, I could at least buy them some time to make their escape.

I gave them all of my savings. "Buy whatever ticket you can to skip town. Do it as fast as possible. That's all you need to do right now."

Luke teared up. "You don't actually have a plan, right? You're just trying to buy us time to escape?"

"When did you become such a saint? Don't even think about it!" Simon snapped at me.

Even Tom slammed his hand on the table. "They've already locked on to all of us. There's no way we can escape. Just tell us your plan—tell us how we can help."

I was surprised and a little moved.

Ever since we were kids, the four of us had always been competing with one another. We fought over everything and hated seeing any of the others do well.

But now that I thought about it, we'd never caused any real harm to each other.

Meanwhile, my so-called biological parents had killed me without a hint of hesitation, condemning me to a miserable and agonizing death.

Seeing how they were standing by me, I decided not to hide what I knew from them.

"In her rush to drag me back to their house, Mrs. Ferguson knocked over the desserts on the table, and that allowed me to realize the truth. The long-lost son of the Ferguson family really did grow up in the orphanage, and he's someone you all know."

Under their expectant gazes, I finally gave them the answer.

Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson also started to grow suspicious of Molly and Hank. Therefore, Molly, Hank, and Gary had to speed things along and lock away the real Fergusons, taking their place. And to get their hands on the family fortune, they launched a search for the real son. They figured that all they had to do was kill off the real son, and the wealth would end up in their hands. The asset transfer agreement I signed was never legally binding. It was only a tool they used to deceive everyone and convince the world they truly loved the son they'd just reunited with. That way, once the real son died, it would be a lot easier for them to escape suspicion. They had never intended to do a DNA test. Afraid of being found out, they focused all their attention on getting the assets as quickly as possible. Therefore, when they saw me at the restaurant, they wanted to bring me home and kill me that very day. However, I ended up escaping their clutches. This also explained why Simon, Tom, and

Tom, Luke, and Simon all had complicated expressions. After a long silence, Tom said, "But it still feels like a bit of a stretch to use that as the sole basis to confirm all three of them aren't the real Fergusons."Seeing the scowl on my face, he hastily added, "We're not doubting you, of course. It's just that we need to find more concrete evidence. Otherwise, considering what we've done, we might end up behind bars soon enough."Simon pointed at Gary and said, "He looks a lot like you. He just doesn't resemble your dad much.""Are you sure you're not just making wild guesses?" Luke mumbled.Simon immediately stomped on Luke's foot and rolled his eyes. "Stop wasting time with such stupid questions. We can just get another DNA test done to confirm whether they're the real Fergusons.""Wait a minute. Didn't they already do a DNA test?" Tom piped up. "It proved that they're related to William, so what's the use in doing another one?"I was starting to get annoyed by their lack o

Simon, Luke, and Tom were more united now than I'd ever seen them. The sight of this left me feeling a little dazed. The orphanage had limited resources, enough to just barely keep the children alive. From the very beginning, we'd get into physical fights over food, just to fill our bellies.I'd long since forgotten who had thrown the first punch. All I knew was that all four of us had the same goal—to steal the other three's food.Sometimes, people would come by the orphanage, looking to adopt a child. While it was obviously impossible for every child to get adopted, we all wanted to be one of the lucky ones. That way, we could finally live a comfortable life. Therefore, apart from doing our best to make a good impression, we would also try to make the other three embarrass themselves, so that the people who came to adopt wouldn't choose them. But in the end, all four of us had failed to get adopted. At the end of the day, we were just pitiful children who yearned for a family a

Even though Mr. Ferguson was howling in pain, he refused to change his story."We really are your parents! We've already given you the family fortune, so why would we try to kill you? I swear, it was just a joke to help you settle in!"Snorting, I increased the voltage of the stun baton. "It's fine if you don't talk. I already know the truth anyway."I only needed the evidence to prove everything. There had to be clues hidden in their room. Grabbing one of the decor items in the room, I knocked them out cold before heading off to search through their things. But I didn't notice that the moment I stepped out, the three people who had been pretending to be unconscious had already freed themselves from the restraints and followed after me.All three of them pounced on me at the same time. They pinned me down in the hallway and started hitting me."Get over yourself, you little bastard! How dare you treat us like that! We're going to make sure you die this time!"Gary stomped on my

Slowly, the bustle died out downstairs. The party had probably ended.I heard approaching footsteps belonging to three people, and they all came marching in after opening the door. Mr. and Mrs. Ferguson had entered with Gary Ferguson, who was supposedly my older brother. The moment the three of them saw me, their expressions instantly twisted with anger."You're nothing but a phony! How dare you show up here pretending to be our son!"The trio shoved me right toward the edge of the balcony, preparing to throw me over."Go to hell!"My body tilted over the edge. It all felt like a repeat of my previous life. But at that very moment, I activated the stun baton I'd been holding the entire time and aimed it at them. They jolted from the electric shock and released me, but I didn't stop there. I continued to stun them again and again, only halting once all three had blacked out. With some difficulty, I dragged the three of them together and arranged them back-to-back, tying them up

"I'm the Fergusons' son," I declared, my voice confident yet helpless at the same time.Simon, Luke, and Tom looked angry enough to hit me. "We also think it's you, but the issue is that the Fergusons will kill you all the same!"They started to fret."The Fergusons went to the trouble of preparing that asset transfer agreement for their biological son to sign once they found him. So why did they kill you after you'd already proven that you're their real son?" Simon clutched his head and wondered."Is it because they thought the DNA report was a fake? That you were lying to them?"I shook my head. "Regardless of the reason, I know one thing is certain—I'm most definitely the long-lost son of the Ferguson family."They couldn't figure out what I was planning, nor could they stop me. In the end, they could only agree to play along with me as needed. On the third day, Michael arrived with the Ferguson couple, who brought the results of the DNA test with them. As expected, the resul
