Chapter 4
Her blaring alarm jolts her out of her deep slumber, and she tosses on the bed angrily. She just slept off a few hours ago, how come it's morning already? Will she end up losing her mind? She groans tiredly as she forces herself to sit on the bed, running her fingers through her hair as she yawns tiredly. It's as if she has the whole world on her shoulders right now. She just needs some rest, but not when she has to be early to work. She doesn't want to lose her job, not because she won't get employed in other places, but just her love for Turner's enterprise. She has every means of getting a job anywhere, she just prefers to work there. 'You should work on your manners, Eve' Jayden's words echo in her head again, and she scoffs angrily. It has been two weeks since he said that to her, but until now, it is still so difficult to get it off her head. Isn't he a jerk for saying that to her? Pushing all the thoughts to the back of her mind, she drags myself out of the bed and strides into the bathroom to have her bath. A few minutes later... She glances at her reflection in the mirror for the last time, before she picks up her handbag from the bedside table, and strides out of her room afterward. Stepping into the lobby, she strides down to the elevator which takes her to the third floor, where her office is located. While still inside the elevator, her phone suddenly starts ringing, and she brings it out of her handbag to answer the call, but her countenance changes when she sees the caller. It's her so-called dad. Is he just remembering that he has a child now? The last time Evelyn remembers speaking with his dad, was three weeks ago, and since then, they're just talking again now. At times she'd feel so depressed and think of ending her life, but would her parents even care if she dies or not? Why should she kill herself for the people that don't even care about her? Is it worth it? She watches as the phone rings and the call ends afterward. Even if she knows that the man won't call her back, she is still hoping that he does that. She would answer his call if he calls back, but she knows that he won't, anyway. A drop of tears slid down the corner of her cheek, but she quickly wipes it off and sighs briefly. Pretending to be fine turns out to be more difficult than the pain. Having to put a smile on her face every day to convince people that she's fine, is really difficult, but what the hell was she supposed to do? Go around crying? Nah! She would never think of that. The door finally rolls open, and she steps out while holding her phone, but she collides with someone, and the phone slips off her hand, crashing to the floor with the screen facing the ground. What the heck! "Are you blind, huh?" She snaps angrily at whoever the idiot is, as she quickly bends down and collects the pieces together, not even bothering to check who the person is. Standing up to her feet, she finally raises her gaze to check who she just bashed into, but she knows she's in trouble, the moment she sets her eyes on her boss. "What did I say about manners?" He asks calmly, crossing his arms on his chest. Mr. Liam is standing behind him."I'm sorry, Sir. I didn't mean it," She apologizes to him, even as she so much wants to punch him in his face and vent all her anger on him. "Is this how you go around insulting everyone that comes your way?" He snaps at her angrily. "I'm sorry, Sir," She quickly apologizes to him again, trying so hard not to let her anger consume her. As much as she doesn't want to lose it, and end up doing something stupid, she also knows that she may do that eventually with the way he's speaking to her now. She's not that kind of a patient person. "You don't talk when I'm talking, Eve! Don't push me. I can see that you're not well-mannered. How did you manage to get a job here," He stares at her questioningly, and she bites her bottom lip. "Your actions are making me doubt the potential of other workers here, and I think I am getting convinced to do the screening for real. I just hope none of the workers is like you," He tucks his hands in his pockets, and continues, "Listen to me, Eve. I don't care about your value to the company, and how long you have been here, if you don't respect the rules of the company to be respectful and be a good representative out there, then I think you either get ready to be thrown out soon enough, or you turn in your resignation letter now to avoid embarrassment," he barks at me, and she flinches. "Like seriously?" She scoffs as she glares hard at him angrily, the urge to slap him rushes through her, but she tries to control it. She wouldn't want to cause a commotion here, right?"Oh, please cut that crap! I won't stand here and watch you say those trash to me when you're the one at fault," She fires at him between gritted teeth. The fact that he's the CEO doesn't give him the right to walk on anybody he wishes to, it doesn't give him any right to think he can mess with anyone he wishes to and go scot-free. He can try that with any other person here and will go free, but not with Evelyn Jones. She would never allow that. Even if she's working in this company, she deserves some respect from him, right? "One more word from you, and you're kissing your job goodbye," He threatens her, and she scoffs. "Hell with you and the damn job you arrogant jerk! Go to hell with your job, I don't care. And one more stupid word from you, I'll give you a deafening slap," she snaps at him, and he squints his eyes in disbelief...Chapter 5 "Are you not going to get the hell out of my way?" His voice disrupts her, and she flinches, realizing that she has been hallucinating. That was what she would've done to this bastard, but she doesn't want to lose her job, at least not now. It's not that she can't work somewhere else, but she so much loves this company, and wouldn't want to leave it. "I'm sorry, Sir," She bows her head slightly, walking away from him. He glares daggers at her, then rolls his eyes and strides into the elevator. Taking a deep breath, she closes her eyes and throws her head back trying to control her anger. Nobody would dare try that nonsense with her on normal days, so he should thank his luck that he's her boss, else, he would've had his ill manners to blame. Finally, she turns and walks away to her office, huffing almost every second. Her phone has been spoilt by that jerk, and as if it wasn't enough to get her angry, he went ahead to insult her. What kind of a man is he? "Jerk!" She sco
Chapter 6The corner of his lips twitches into a smirk as he watches her close her eyes. He can hear her heart beating rapidly, and he can't help but feel satisfied. Maybe bullying this mannerless annoying girl won't be a bad idea, right? "Wh...what are you doing?" She stutters nervously as she manages to turn her face away. Seeing her reaction, he scoffs unbelievably and shakes his head. What the hell is she thinking? That he's going to kiss her or something? That's too stupid to think of. There are girls more beautiful than her that are throwing themselves at him, and are at his call, he can get any girl he wants, but this one? Hell no! She's a big turn-off for him. "Am I really that annoying?" He whispers, tucking the strand of hair on her forehead, behind her ear, and she gulps down nothing as she feels her heart misses a beat. Slowly, his hand crawls its way to her plumpy lips, and he rubs his thumb on them for a few seconds, while having a smirk dancing at the corner of his lip
Chapter 7Eve POV My heart almost popped out of my chest. That guy is such a crazy nerve-wrecking fellow, he scared the guts out of me. For some seconds, I thought he was going to kiss me. He's going to kill me before my time in that company. He's so annoying. After getting some things at the mall with Marian, I drove her home, before finally going home. I've had a hectic day, and I just can't wait to get home and unite myself with my comforting bed. I feel like sleeping for five days straight. That's crazy, right? But that's how I feel. After driving for what seemed like forever, I finally drive into my compound, and park neatly at the parking lot, alighting from the car afterward. It's almost 8pm, all thanks to Marian we spent almost forever at the mall. She kept picking things and dropping them, and I couldn't have left her there to herself, right? We ended up spending over two hours, and now I have to battle tiredness. I stride to the entrance door and push the door open, not a
Chapter 8Eve POV The sound of my blaring alarm pulls me out of my deep slumber, and I groan tiredly, forcing my eyes open. It's still the middle of the night, but I have some work to take care of, that's why I'm waking up at this time. I yawn tiredly, swinging my legs down the bed, and getting on my feet afterward. With my eyes half-closed, I drag my feet sluggishly into the bathroom. I'm so exhausted, and as much as I need to get some sleep, this work is important for me to do over the night. Stepping out of the bathroom after I wash my face to get the sleep off my eyes, I walk over to my bed and throw my heavy weight on the edge, reaching out to my laptop afterward. I begin my work once it's on. After working on the laptop for what seemed like forever, I was about to turn it off, when a message from the company pops on the screen. I sigh briefly. Why would the company email message me at 1am? I mean, who the hell is controlling the messaging center? I open the mail reluctantly,
Chapter 9Eve's eyes almost pop out of their sockets as she tries to process what her friend just said. "Jayden!" She snorts quietly, clenching her fists as she feels anger building up in her. If it were to be someone else that she has to work with then she wouldn't have had any problem with that. But Jayden? He's the last person she wants to work with. She has a phobia for arrogant people, and she may end up losing her job after kicking his ass. Giving the lady a last glare, she finally turns around and storms out of the office, slamming the door behind her as if she wants to breathe it down. As she walks down the hallway, she can't help trying to control her anger. She finally stops in front of the door and takes a deep breath, before pushing it open and walking inside. Surprisingly, Mr. Liam is not sitting in his usual seat. Has he quit already? She takes another deep breath before placing a soft knock on the door of his office, and after a few minutes, his voice finally sounds
Chapter 10"I want to resign, She says to him after a long silence, and he raises his gaze to look at her, having an amused and less surprised expression on his face. Not that he didn't see this coming anyway, but there's no way he'll allow her to resign. At least not now. He hasn't frustrated her the way he wants to, so why should he free her? "What did you say?" He asks sarcastically as if he didn't hear her the first time. He just wants her to repeat that before he shocks her with the disappointment of her life. You aren't expecting him to let her resign, right? He started all these purposely, and finishing what he started is the only thing on his mind. "I said I want to resign! I'm sure you heard me when I said that. Do I need to spell it out to you, huh? I want to resign!" She finally loses it, slamming her hands on my desk. She has been trying so hard not to let her anger take over her, but she can't do this anymore. The only thing on her mind now is to piss him off and leave
The day is not yet over and she's already tired of the workload in the office. Just imagine what the rest of her day here will be like. As much as she wants to run away from the company and never return, thinking about Mr. Turner that has been nothing but so good to her, thinking about the trust the man has for her, and the love he had for her while he was still managing the company, she thinks that it'll be unfair to break his trust and leave just like that. "You can do this, Eve. Just trust yourself that you can," She assures herself as she resumes work on her desktop. Of course, she knows that jerk just wants to bully her, she knows that he just wants to frustrate her and make her life in the company miserable, but screw him! Having all her attention on the desktop, she cringe as someone suddenly drops a heap of documents on the desk again. Her face drops sadly when she raises her gaze to see a smirk dancing at the corner of Jayden's lips. Does he want to kill her? She's yet to s
Chapter 12Jayden ClintonDays laterIt has been a couple of days since Eve has been working as my secretary, and all these few days, I am sure I have frustrated her more than enough. I don't know why but for some unknown reasons, I just don't like her. The joy I always have whenever I see that angry look on her face is just too priceless. You won't blame me for doing this, would you? She's crazy and needs to have more manners as a member of this company. She wasn't on her best behavior when I came here, which is why she's going through all of these now. It's fun, anyway. Picking up the office telephone a few minutes later, I put a call through to my annoying secretary, and one minute already passed before she answer the call. "I'm working. What is it now?" Her lazy voice sound through the phone and I roll my eyes. I guess she must've been so tired from the workload on her, but does it look like I care? I mean, what is she paid for, if not to do her job diligently? "Come in," I dro
