Chapter 3
The atmosphere suddenly tenses up, and whispers erupt in the office, and she sighs as she touches her forehead. What in the crazy world is going on right now? They're distracting her attention, and she may lose it anytime soon if they don't behave themselves. She raises her head to check out where exactly the sounds are coming from, but she shakes her head unbelievably when she sees her female colleagues adjusting their clothes. 'I hope they're not doing this because of the new so-called CEO. Oh, God! Can the time be fast-forwarded so I can leave this damn place and go home?' She mutters to herself, reclining on the chair. "Can you all please focus, huh? I'm doing some work here, and for the love of God, you're damn disturbing me," She slams her hands on the desk frustratingly, closing her eyes. Can this day be any good? First, it was that idiot from the traffic jam, and now her annoying colleagues wouldn't stop frustrating her. Today isn't a good day, honestly. Someone nudges her arm, and she snaps her eyes open to yell at whoever it is to leave her the hell alone, but she comports herself when she sees that the person is Mr. Liam. She sighs in relief, taking a deep breath. Finally, someone is here to put these people in their place. "Oh, it's a good thing you're here, Mr. Liam. Can you please tell these silly workers of yours to focus on their work and stop fooling around, huh?" She snaps angrily, turning to face him. "Eve!" Mr. Liam calls her sternly and tilts his head to his right-hand side, giving her a signal that someone is here with him. She snaps her head to look in that direction, and a thin line appears between her eyebrows and eyelashes as she creases her eyebrows. "Isn't that the bastard from earlier?" She mutters to herself, still trying to recall. "Yes, he's the one," He further says. "Where are your manners, Eve? Stand up," Mr. Liam quickly corrects her, and she stands up to her feet. "Have we met before?" He asks her calmly. "No, we haven't," she replies to him like the gentle lady she's not. As much as she's pissed at him for doing that shit earlier, she can't bring herself to insult her new boss. If it were to be someone else, maybe the case would've been different now. He stares at her for a few seconds with that expression on his face that shows that he doesn't believe her a bit. How is he supposed to believe her when it's obvious that she's lying? If only she knows how much he hates lies and liars, she wouldn't have done what she did now, telling him the slightest lies would've been the last thing she would do. "Hello, meet the new CEO, Mr. Jayden Turner. He'll be taking over the company from his dad, and henceforth, will be our CEO," Mr. Liam finally introduce him to the workers, and Evelyn's eyes almost fall out of their sockets unbelievably as he stares at the man standing before her with her mouth open in shock. She never thought that the bastard that pissed her off earlier would turn out to be her boss. This is crazy. Is she not in trouble like this? "You're welcome, Sir," Seeing the excitement on the workers' faces when Evelyn looks around, especially her female colleagues who keep throwing glances at Jayden and blushing hard, she can't help but shake her head. They're all raving mad. "A lot of things are messed up here, so I'm going to start all over again and set up the company the way I want it to be," He utters in a calm, but cold voice. Normally, he was supposed to at least say a word of greetings to the staffs, but it seems like he doesn't do that. Maybe he feels so pompous, or maybe he's not just in the mood. Well, that's his problem to deal with. "A screening is going to be done on each staff, so I'll know who's worthy of staying here, and who's not. I wouldn't want to have many workers here that are not even worth being a cleaner here. Do you all get it?" He further says, and she scoffs silently, wondering why this young man is this arrogant. For real, his dad wouldn't have employed them in the first place if they were not good at what they do, right? 'For heaven's sake, all the staff here were interviewed before they were employed, so what the hell is he saying now?' She asks herself and sighs silently. "Yes, Sir," They reply to him. "What's your name?" He finally turns his attention to Evelyn after her colleagues are done introducing themselves. "I'm Evelyn Jones. The head of the marketing department," She replies to him politely, trying to be as courteous as she can. "That'll be all for today. Get to work, all of you. Evelyn, meet me in my office," And with that, he turns around and ambles out with Mr. Liam... Later in his office... "I presume that you were taught at home that lying isn't a good thing to do, and even if you were not, I guess it's in the company's rule and regulations not to tell lies," He says calmly, not sparing her a glance. His attention is all on his desktop as his hands move the mouse slowly. "Huh?" She bats her eyelashes confusingly. "Don't you think telling lies has so much negative effect on the company's image?" He asks again, as he finally reclines on the chair, turning his attention to her, while she stares back blankly at him. Of course, she doesn't seem to understand anything about what he's saying. "What do you...""You're the one that insulted me this morning, why did you deny it?" He finally asks, and she grunts inwardly. "What would you have me do, sir? It was your fault that you poked your nose into the business that was not meant to be yours, right?" Even if she wants to scream in his face, she can't bring herself to do it, unless she wants to get herself screwed up. Like who the fuck wants to get fired? Definitely not her. "Forgive me, Sir...""You should work on your character and manners, Eve. These ill manners won't take you far. You may leave now," As if nothing happened, he turns his attention to the desktop. This is the worst insult of her life so far. How dare he!Chapter 41"Happy birthday, sweetheart," Mr. Jones smiles at her widely, but she just stands frozen on the spot with a shocked expression on her face. A drop of tears slid down her cheeks as she stares at him with mixed feelings. She's mad at him for the ways he has been treating her, and also happy that he finally shows up to celebrate her birthday with her. She gulps down nothing and bites her bottom lip. "What is going on here?" She finally breaks the silence, her voice not sounding pleasing to the ear, which only expresses her anger. "Uhm... Eve, I invited your dad over to celebrate your birthday with you," Jayden explains, and she scoffs unbelievably. "Why?" This is the only question that escapes her lips as she turns to face Jayden, with anger written all over her face. "Wh... What do you mean?" Jayden stutters confusingly. "Why did you invite him? Did I ask you to?" She snaps at him angrily, after glancing at Mr. Jones. "Eve...""What right do you have to do this shit?
Chapter 40Three days later... The sound of the blaring alarm pulls Evelyn out of her deep slumber, and she tosses on the bed, before she forces her eyes open, staring up at the ceiling. Again, she has woken up to her miserable life. She took three days off from work, and she's resuming today. The past three days have been filled with her staying indoors and thinking about what happened. "You are a bastard, Raymond," She mutters under her breath, running her fingers through her hair after she sits up on the bed, a drop of tears sliding down the corner of her cheeks. It's not that she wants to think about him, she has only been trying to get him off her head, but the more she tries to, the more difficult it seems to be. "Don't think about him, Eve. Don't cry over him, because that bastard doesn't worth it," She says as she grabs the pillow, and throws it across the room, bursting into tears afterward. "It's fucking difficult to get over you. I thought you loved me. You fucking dec
Chapter 39She gulps down nothing as she stands up from the bed, trying to keep her sleepy eyes open. "Evelyn threw me out..." She mumbles under her breath, but still loud enough for him to hear her, and he can't help the scoff that tears through his lips. What the hell was she expecting? That Evelyn will still allow her to stay in that house after what happened? She must really be dumb. "And how's that got to do with you being in my house? Were you expecting her to still allow you to live under the same roof with her after what happened?" He snaps at her, and she bites her bottom lip. He's right, anyway. She was too foolish to have expected her to still let her stay there. "Look, I have nowhere else to go...""And how's that my business? Does it look like I give a damn about that? I'm yet to clear the mess you caused, and you want to get me into more trouble?" He sneers at her, and she flinches as her heart misses a beat. Tears brim in her eyes before they stream down her cheeks a
Chapter 38Pulling her suitcase behind her as she walks out of the house minutes later, tears stream down her cheeks. Standing at the roadside, and crying her eyes out like someone that just got her heart broken, Skylar feels her world crumbling down before her very eyes. Now she regrets everything she has done. She shouldn't have continued her relationship with Raymond when she found out that she was her cousin's boyfriend, but she chose to be a fool, and now she's suffering for her mistake. She couldn't bring herself to go to Raymond's house after realizing that the young man never loved her as he claimed. She accepts that it was all her fault, she started this shit in the first place, and she shouldn't have seduced him, but that was because she found him attractive, that was because she couldn't resist the urge, and now she's stuck here. A few minutes later, she finally flags down a cab and hops in without giving him her destination. Maybe squatting with Raymond for now before s
Chapter 37Her eyes slowly widen in shock as she stares back at him, wondering what he's talking about. Trying to recall what happened the previous night, she shuts her eyes tightly and holds her head when she feels so blank upstairs. "Just stop trying, girl. I'm just kidding. Nothing happened, OK?" He quickly says to her. Of course, he wouldn't want her to start thinking that he's some pervert that took advantage of her, just because she was drunk. That's the last thing she would ever do to anyone, and not even to his secretary. She's too special to him for him to bring himself to do that to her. Releasing a sigh of relief, she falls back to the bed and stares up at the ceiling as tears brim in her eyes. Recalling everything that happened between Raymond and Skylar, she can only blame herself for being a fool all along. It doesn't hurt that he cheated on her, and neither is she sad because it had to be with her cousin, but she's sad that she never noticed that this dude has been pl
Chapter 36Jayden didn't expect her next action. It comes as a shock to him when Evelyn seals their lips together. Initially, he thought that she wanted to hug him again or do another crazy thing, but kissing him is completely different and it is very shocking to him.She wraps her long arms around his neck, deepening the kiss, usinge her nails to get his thick black hair messy. Her sweet lips are traveling through different parts of his mouth. Her mouth tastes like what she has been drinking. An alcohol with a neutral taste. Despite that everything in him wants to return the kiss, he can't bring himself to snap out of the shock. He wants to return the aggressive kiss while using the opportunity to touch her ass. He wants to grab her closer to his body. but on a second thought he restrain himself. He is aware that kissing her back may be considered as taking advantage of her drunken taste. Obviously, she is drunk and she doesn't know what she is doing. The scent of her perfume is dr
