Chapter 1
The sound of the blaring alarm jolts Evelyn Jones out of her deep slumber, and she groans angrily, pulling the duvet over her face. It's Monday today, and she needs to go to work, just like every other workday. Just how much she so loves weekend and everything that accompanies it. For heaven's sake, can't she have a good sleep even for once? It's so annoying how she always has to wake up early and get ready for work. Maybe quitting the job would be a nice idea, but who wants to die of boredom at home? Definitely not her. She's never going to allow that.Yanking the duvet off her face, she reaches out lazily for the alarm that wouldn't stop blaring, throwing it across the room and shutting it off. With all the strength left in her, she pulls herself up to sit on the bed and stretches her arms above her head tiredly.Dragging herself from the bed, she walks sluggishly into the bathroom and slams the door angrily behind her like she wants to rip it off. Crashing against the wall as soon as she steps into the bathroom, and ruffles her hair and sleepily.Although she has been working for three years or even more, she's still not used to waking up early. Crazy, right? Maybe she wouldn't have thought of working if her parents cares about her. Yes, she's the only child of her wealthy parents who supposed to get all the love and attention, being the only child, but she's rather ignored by her parents, as the only thing they care about is their business.Although she was hurt about how they treated her, but as she grew up, she learned to accept her fate and live with it.Stepping into the bathtub, she soaks herself under the warm soapy water and scrubs her body slowly.A few minutes later...The cold that suddenly penetrates her body makes her snap her eyes open with full force, and a gasp escapes her lips. She had fallen asleep in the bathtub without knowing it."Shit!" She curses under her breath, as she quickly steps out of the bathtub and hurries to wash the water off her body, walking into her room afterward. It's already past 8am, which means that she's an hour late already."Damn! I'm so screwed up," She mutters as she finds her way to her closet, throwing them open hurriedly. A new CEO was said to be taking over the company where she works, today, and getting on a bad page with him on the first day is the last thing she wants. He was rumored to be arrogant and strict. Yes, she may be stubborn and can be annoying, but creating a bad impression of herself before her new boss at the first meeting? That is a horrible thing she would never want to happen. After getting dressed she grabs her handbag from the bed, and storms out of her room not after picking up her car keys from the bed.Her name is Evelyn Jones, twenty-three years old young lady living off her family's wealth, and catering for herself, regardless of her parent's wealth. For someone who doesn't look like she's existing to her parents who reside in Paris and care only about their business, Evelyn has learned to live by herself even at this very young age. She grew up with her nanny instead, since she has been the one taking care of her all these years. At times she would feel like she was adopted by these people, because why would they not care about her if they're really her parents? It's her third year, working as an accountant in Turner's enterprise, one of the biggest telecommunication companies in Oklahoma City. She has a boyfriend, Raymond Jared, a young business tycoon who loves traveling around the world and spending more time on his business, instead on her. But she still loves him, regardless.Descending the grand staircase, the aroma coming from the kitchen fills her nostrils, and she smiles widely. The thought of having breakfast before she leaves the house makes her happy, but she's damn late for work."Good morning, nanny Cleo," She greets her nanny who's busy in the kitchen, making breakfast."Good morning, dear. Did you sleep well?" Madam Cleo glances at her and asks with a smile on her face."Yes, I did. What are we having for breakfast, please?" She leans against the counter, forgetting that she's already late for work."I packed some food for you. You're already late for work, so you should take it with you," madam Cleo says to her, as she reaches out for the food flask that is next to her on the counter. She hands it to her."Awww! Thank you. You're always the best," she squeaks excitedly, and madam Cleo rolls her eyes at her."Alright, see you later. I need to run along now," And with that, she strides out of the kitchen and heads straight to the parking lot where her car is parked. She hops in her car and drives out of the house afterward. The drive to the company wasn't supposed to take much time, but the horrible traffic jam had her stuck here for the past ten minutes, and there was no hope of getting out of this shit anytime soon. It's annoying. What the hell are those people doing there that the cars are stuck in this hellish traffic? She was already late, and here she was, thinking she would be in his office in less than fifteen minutes, but he's now stuck in a traffic jam."Can you do something about this, huh?" She sticks her neck out of the car and presses the honk loudly. The car next to her suddenly whines down the window glass, revealing a young man sitting in the driver's seat."Hey, miss can you please keep it down, huh? Don't blow off my eardrums, please," He snaps at her, forcing scoffs off her throat. She was already pissed off, why the heck is he adding to it? He should've just minded his business, right?"Damn you, man! You have no right whatsoever to tell me that. So go to hell," She yells at him and presses the honk again."Can you move your cars out of the damn way? I'm running late for work!" She sticks out her neck through the window again and yells while they all stare at her from their cars like she's acting a drama. Not that she cares though. The traffic jam was finally resolved after a few minutes, and everyone drive their cars away. A few minutes later, she finally drives into the company and parks neatly in the garage. She's so damn late.Stepping into the large office, her eyes almost pop out of their sockets as she's welcomed by a weird sight. Her colleagues are all looking different, especially the ladies. They are all dressed nicely, smell nice, and have weird makeup on their faces. Ok, what's the celebration today?Letting out a scoff, she shakes her head, walking over to her seat."Good morning, Eve," Marian, one of her colleagues greets her with a smile on her face. Marian is the only close person Evelyn has in the company. Marian would sometimes go over to her place to keep her company, and whenever she feel bored at home, she do go over to her house for a visit too."Hey Marian, how're you doing?" She smiles as she turns to face Marian, but she cringes dramatically when she sees weird makeup on her face too. She's getting curious and more confused. What's going on?"What's the celebration today? I mean, you all are wearing some weird makeup, and some nice clothes too. What's going on?" She pouts her lips, as she whines at Marian."Oh please, Eve. Don't tell me you don't know what's going on here?" Marian gives her an 'are you serious' look. For heaven's sake, if she know what is going on, she wouldn't be asking her this. Still, she shakes her head."The CEO is said to have willed the company to his son, and he is coming over to the company today. Like every other person, I want to look good. Who knows, he may just notice me, and make me his Cinderella," Marian cups her cheeks dreamily while smiling like the fool she is.What the heck is this world turning into? Just when she thought she had seen it all, then new madness keeps surfacing."Oh, I see," She shakes her head unbelievably, turning to her desktop...The door to the bathroom pulls open revealing a young handsome man as he walks in elegantly. Standing in front of the mirror and staring at his perfect reflection in the mirror, the corner of his lips curves into a smile, revealing his one-sided dimple. Running his fingers through his raven hair as he throws his head back, his broad chest widens as his perfectly toned abs tug up, revealing his six packs which are perfectly built. The sound of his ringing phone pulls his attention, and he rolls his eyes as he walks over to the bed where his phone is laying helplessly. Seeing the caller ID, he sighs briefly knowing that he's in for some frustration this morning. It's his mom. "Hey, mom," He says as soon as he answers the call. "Where did you keep your phone, son? I have been calling you," She complains, and he checks the screen of his phone for any missed call, but there's none. "I'm sorry, mom. I was having my bath," he apologizes, even if he knows that this woman never called him.
Chapter 3The atmosphere suddenly tenses up, and whispers erupt in the office, and she sighs as she touches her forehead. What in the crazy world is going on right now? They're distracting her attention, and she may lose it anytime soon if they don't behave themselves. She raises her head to check out where exactly the sounds are coming from, but she shakes her head unbelievably when she sees her female colleagues adjusting their clothes. 'I hope they're not doing this because of the new so-called CEO. Oh, God! Can the time be fast-forwarded so I can leave this damn place and go home?' She mutters to herself, reclining on the chair. "Can you all please focus, huh? I'm doing some work here, and for the love of God, you're damn disturbing me," She slams her hands on the desk frustratingly, closing her eyes. Can this day be any good? First, it was that idiot from the traffic jam, and now her annoying colleagues wouldn't stop frustrating her. Today isn't a good day, honestly. Someone n
Chapter 4 Her blaring alarm jolts her out of her deep slumber, and she tosses on the bed angrily. She just slept off a few hours ago, how come it's morning already? Will she end up losing her mind? She groans tiredly as she forces herself to sit on the bed, running her fingers through her hair as she yawns tiredly. It's as if she has the whole world on her shoulders right now. She just needs some rest, but not when she has to be early to work. She doesn't want to lose her job, not because she won't get employed in other places, but just her love for Turner's enterprise. She has every means of getting a job anywhere, she just prefers to work there. 'You should work on your manners, Eve' Jayden's words echo in her head again, and she scoffs angrily. It has been two weeks since he said that to her, but until now, it is still so difficult to get it off her head. Isn't he a jerk for saying that to her? Pushing all the thoughts to the back of her mind, she drags myself out of the bed a
Chapter 5 "Are you not going to get the hell out of my way?" His voice disrupts her, and she flinches, realizing that she has been hallucinating. That was what she would've done to this bastard, but she doesn't want to lose her job, at least not now. It's not that she can't work somewhere else, but she so much loves this company, and wouldn't want to leave it. "I'm sorry, Sir," She bows her head slightly, walking away from him. He glares daggers at her, then rolls his eyes and strides into the elevator. Taking a deep breath, she closes her eyes and throws her head back trying to control her anger. Nobody would dare try that nonsense with her on normal days, so he should thank his luck that he's her boss, else, he would've had his ill manners to blame. Finally, she turns and walks away to her office, huffing almost every second. Her phone has been spoilt by that jerk, and as if it wasn't enough to get her angry, he went ahead to insult her. What kind of a man is he? "Jerk!" She sco
Chapter 6The corner of his lips twitches into a smirk as he watches her close her eyes. He can hear her heart beating rapidly, and he can't help but feel satisfied. Maybe bullying this mannerless annoying girl won't be a bad idea, right? "Wh...what are you doing?" She stutters nervously as she manages to turn her face away. Seeing her reaction, he scoffs unbelievably and shakes his head. What the hell is she thinking? That he's going to kiss her or something? That's too stupid to think of. There are girls more beautiful than her that are throwing themselves at him, and are at his call, he can get any girl he wants, but this one? Hell no! She's a big turn-off for him. "Am I really that annoying?" He whispers, tucking the strand of hair on her forehead, behind her ear, and she gulps down nothing as she feels her heart misses a beat. Slowly, his hand crawls its way to her plumpy lips, and he rubs his thumb on them for a few seconds, while having a smirk dancing at the corner of his lip
Chapter 7Eve POV My heart almost popped out of my chest. That guy is such a crazy nerve-wrecking fellow, he scared the guts out of me. For some seconds, I thought he was going to kiss me. He's going to kill me before my time in that company. He's so annoying. After getting some things at the mall with Marian, I drove her home, before finally going home. I've had a hectic day, and I just can't wait to get home and unite myself with my comforting bed. I feel like sleeping for five days straight. That's crazy, right? But that's how I feel. After driving for what seemed like forever, I finally drive into my compound, and park neatly at the parking lot, alighting from the car afterward. It's almost 8pm, all thanks to Marian we spent almost forever at the mall. She kept picking things and dropping them, and I couldn't have left her there to herself, right? We ended up spending over two hours, and now I have to battle tiredness. I stride to the entrance door and push the door open, not a
Chapter 8Eve POV The sound of my blaring alarm pulls me out of my deep slumber, and I groan tiredly, forcing my eyes open. It's still the middle of the night, but I have some work to take care of, that's why I'm waking up at this time. I yawn tiredly, swinging my legs down the bed, and getting on my feet afterward. With my eyes half-closed, I drag my feet sluggishly into the bathroom. I'm so exhausted, and as much as I need to get some sleep, this work is important for me to do over the night. Stepping out of the bathroom after I wash my face to get the sleep off my eyes, I walk over to my bed and throw my heavy weight on the edge, reaching out to my laptop afterward. I begin my work once it's on. After working on the laptop for what seemed like forever, I was about to turn it off, when a message from the company pops on the screen. I sigh briefly. Why would the company email message me at 1am? I mean, who the hell is controlling the messaging center? I open the mail reluctantly,
Chapter 9Eve's eyes almost pop out of their sockets as she tries to process what her friend just said. "Jayden!" She snorts quietly, clenching her fists as she feels anger building up in her. If it were to be someone else that she has to work with then she wouldn't have had any problem with that. But Jayden? He's the last person she wants to work with. She has a phobia for arrogant people, and she may end up losing her job after kicking his ass. Giving the lady a last glare, she finally turns around and storms out of the office, slamming the door behind her as if she wants to breathe it down. As she walks down the hallway, she can't help trying to control her anger. She finally stops in front of the door and takes a deep breath, before pushing it open and walking inside. Surprisingly, Mr. Liam is not sitting in his usual seat. Has he quit already? She takes another deep breath before placing a soft knock on the door of his office, and after a few minutes, his voice finally sounds
