Elana POV

I walk up the gravel path toward the pack house with my arms wrapped around myself. The move date is planned. I am moving out of the Midsummer Pack on the same day that Victor will bind himself to Lara. When the invitation came by courier, I promptly ripped it in two. I would rather walk across hot coals than see them bind themselves together.

The pack house looms over me. I can be in and out. Just like I planned, I find Victor, reject him, and then leave. This time, I will initiate the rejection. I can’t leave anything to error. I need to break this bond, once and for all.

My feet slow to a stop when I see Damon step onto the porch. His shirt sleeves are rolled up, and his fists are clenched together in rage. He rubs the back of his neck before shoving his hands into his pockets. His eyes scan the grounds like he is making sure no one is watching him leave.

“What are you doing here?” I call out to him before I can stop myself.

He looks up quickly, but doesn’

  • Pursuing My Rejected Luna   Chapter 56

Damon POVTwo days later, the bruises from the fight with Max are fading, but the ache in my chest hasn’t gone anywhere. Elana won’t take my calls, and I am running out of ideas to keep her here. Now, I am standing in front of the pack house looking up at the large columns that line the entrance. This place used to be my home. Victor didn’t always hate me. In fact, we were close. I can still hear the echoes of our laughter as we ran up and down the halls, causing all sorts of mischief. I looked up to him just like I did my father. It killed me to leave the pack, to leave all of this behind. Most of all, it pained me to leave Elana behind. I thought that in time she would grow to recognize the bond between us and demand for my return. She never did. I kept my number the same all of those years, and she never called me once. I can’t count the number of times my fingers hovered over her number, waiting to reach out to her, but I never did. Telling myself to just let it go.

  • Pursuing My Rejected Luna   Chapter 55

Elana POVWhen I return to the ballroom, everyone turns to look at me. The weight of their eyes on my skin makes it feel like the walls of the ballroom are closing in on me. Their whispers are like needles in my ears, sending a shiver up my spine. Max leans in closer, his voice low. “You’ve made your point,” he whispers into my ear. “Let’s go before they burn you at the stake.”I nod stiffly. “Yeah. Let’s go.”We move through the crowd, all eyes following us as we head toward the doors. Max’s presence cuts a path; no one dares stop him, though I can feel the hostility rolling off the pack like heat.Max is right. If I stay here a moment longer, they might try to kill me. Even though I am sure many of them haven’t witnessed this much drama in years. Not since the old Alpha married his mistress soon after the death of his Luna. The cool night air slams into my chest when we step outside. I breathe in, gasping at the air, trying to calm the storm raging beneath my skin. The car

  • Pursuing My Rejected Luna   Chapter 54

Elana POVI slip out of the ballroom, tearing myself away from Alpha Max. His arm was wrapped so tightly around my waist that I didn’t think I would be able to break free. I feigned needing the restroom, and he finally relented, disappearing in the direction of the bar.No one stops me as I slip out of the rear exit. I can feel their eyes tracking me as I go, whispers following me, discussing the drama I have created here tonight. My head feels heavy, and my lungs feel tight. I push through the door, letting out a grateful sigh as the light and noise of the ballroom fade behind me. I press a hand to my chest, leaning against the wall. Damon was right. This isn’t me.The dress, my date, the very public confrontation. I told myself it was about regaining my power. Giving myself a way to be in control of my life that is spiraling horrifically out of my reach. But now that I am standing here in the wake of my performance, it feels gross. Like a mask that is too heavy to keep we

  • Pursuing My Rejected Luna   Chapter 53

Victor POVI can’t take my eyes off them.Damon’s hand at her waist, Elana’s hand on his shoulder, the two of them turning with the music. Her fake smile cuts through my ribs like a knife, and Axel presses hard against my skin, snarling, demanding I rip them apart.‘She is uncomfortable,’ he demands. I keep my eyes on them, knowing he is right, but refusing to rescue her. ‘She chose this for herself.’Axel snarls. ‘You drove her to this.’I scoff aloud, drawing Lara’s attention. She loops her arm into mine, but I don’t bother looking in her direction. Not when I can’t see past what is right in front of me. The crowd fades. The music fades. All I see is my brother dancing with the woman who should still be mine.Elana’s chin lifts, fire in her eyes as she stares at me over Damon’s shoulder, daring me to do something. The nerve of it all, bringing Max, baiting me, now dancing with Damon under my roof. My fists clench until my nails cut my palms.Ripping my eyes away from them, I s

  • Pursuing My Rejected Luna   Chapter 52

Damon POVI can’t breathe. The party noise crashes around me like a tide I can’t hold back. As the music swells, the whispering voices and laughter feel too loud. Each echo through the ballroom feels like a knife straight through my chest, and at the center of it all is Elana on Max’s arm.I watch them move through the crowd, and every step feels like a punch to my gut. This isn’t her. Elana isn’t petty. She’s stubborn, fiery, reckless, but not like this. Not flaunting herself on the arm of Victor’s rival like some kind of pawn in a pack game. What is she doing? I want to look away from them, but I can’t. That fucking dress. Goddess, that fucking red dress with the plunging neckline, giving me a peek at what I have only fantasized about seeing. I will be dreaming about ripping it off her for months to come, I am sure. I take another drink to drown the thought, but it doesn’t help. Hector claws at me, furious, territorial, wounded. I can feel Victor’s rage rolling off him,
