Elana thought her life was perfect. Or at least that is what she told herself, until the day her fated mate, Victor, asked to break the bond between them. She didn't understand what had driven him to make such a decision until her sister, his old lover, reappeared in the pack. Broken-hearted, she decides that she will not let this define her. Elana is determined to find her own way, until someone from the past comes barging back into her life. Damon has always been in love with her, and now, with Victor out of the way, he thinks he can make his move. How will she balance what she has lost and what waits for her in the future, while staying true to herself?

Choking back tears, I rush out of the Midsummer Pack Courthouse. The day finally came: my marriage is over. All that is left is for Victor to break the mate bond between us. Five years of my life are over with a simple strike of a pen.
I brace myself on the railing of the stairs before I descend them. My best friend, Alexis, is at the bottom, playing with my daughter. Pulling a small mirror out of my purse, I check my makeup. Mascara is beginning to run down my cheeks, but I quickly wipe it away.
Someone bumps my shoulder, and I see my husband walking away. Victor pretends he didn’t just bump into me and doesn't spare me a second glance. He does this when he has a topic in mind but wants me to talk first. He is not a man of many words. But there is nothing to talk about between us. At least I can’t think of anything. Not anymore. We are done.
For a fleeting moment, I think he is headed for our daughter, Gabby, who is waiting for him at the bottom of the stairs.
She wiggles out of Alexis’s arms and wraps her tiny body around his leg. I watch the scene from afar, and tears sting my eyes because she looks so much like him. How will I look at her every day and not be reminded of him?
I wait for Victor to pick her up, but he looks down at her with disinterest. He pries her from his leg and walks away. An audible gasp leaves my lips. How could he be so cold to his child? His own flesh and blood.
Gabby, forever a Daddy's girl, throws herself onto the ground. She kicks her feet and screams for her daddy, but Victor doesn’t even turn to regard her. He wasn’t the warmest father or lover before this, but he’s colder than ever today. Why is he acting up now that he has the divorce he wanted? Was he just playing the father’s role, and now there isn’t even a reason to pretend?
Both rage and sorrow fill me as I rush down the stairs to my child.
Alexis is trying to pull her off the ground, but it is only making matters worse. Gabby is causing a scene outside the courthouse, and everyone is stopping to look. I bend down next to her and swipe her hair out of her very red face.
"You can be mad," I tell her. “But you can’t scream on the ground.”
"Daddy doesn't love me anymore," she sobs as she throws her arms around my neck.
"He does love you," I try my best to heal her broken heart. "Daddy is just having a bad day."
"Because you got 'vorced?" She asks me.
"Who taught you that word?" I ask her gently, glaring at my best friend.
Alexis shrugs her shoulders. "She was going to figure it out sooner or later."
I roll my eyes at my well-meaning friend and lead Gabby to the car waiting for us. Victor is parked just a few spaces away. My eyes are drawn to him like a moth to a flame. They always have been.
Stopping by his car, he pauses when he reaches for the door. My eyes pause with his movement. But the next second, he suddenly wheels around, catching me staring at him. In panic, I dart my eyes away.
He wants a talk. That much I’m sure.
Could it be? After the courthouse, he now has regrets? Our divorce was a rather quick one. Out of nowhere, he just came back one day with divorce papers, and I was rushed to where I’m now, as if carried by a dark tornado.
He slams his door closed, turns, and glares at me. I look away.
Even if I knew what’s bothering him, I won’t make it easy for him today. Not after he hurt Gabby’s feelings like that. He has the right not to love me, but what has Gabby ever done but love her Daddy like he was the greatest hero in her life?
But he doesn’t walk towards me. He stands by the road, watching the red sports car pull up.
The sports car pulls up behind mine, and a bubbly blonde steps out. My mouth drops open as I watch the woman step out. By instinct, I push Gabby behind me when I’m still working on believing what I’m seeing. I don’t want her to get caught in the crossfire of this fight. I haven’t seen my sister in exactly five years, and the last time we spoke, it was not pleasant.
Gabby is trying to peer around my legs to look at my sister, but my eyes are on Victor. He is looking in my direction with a provoking smirk. Is this why he hasn’t left, to demonstrate his ex to my face?!
“E!” Lara squeals loudly. Five long years didn’t cure me of feeling sick at hearing her phony voice.
She rushes toward me and gathers me in her arms. My arms hang lifelessly at my side as my sister embraces me. I look over at Alexis, and she is hiding her laugh behind her hand. She knows the tumultuous relationship between my sister and me.
“Lara,” I say, pulling away from her. “You are back in town.”
Of course she is. He knew. Not only that. He divorced me for her.
Elana POV I can hear laughter on the other side of my apartment door, and a scowl crosses my lips. After Gabby was taken once, I told Alexis there would be no more visitors while I was gone.I wipe the disappointed look off my face and step inside. Alexis, Damon, and Gabby are sitting on the floor playing a game of Uno. Gabby giggles loudly when she lays a draw four on Damon. He pretends to be upset and throws his cards into the air.Clearing my throat loudly, everyone turns to look at me. Gabby hides the cards behind her back and pretends like she doesn't know she is up past her bedtime."Elana," Alexis smirks. ''I thought you didn't get off until 10:00 pm.''"I finished early," I grumble."Oh," She stumbles over her words. "Damon stopped by and helped me put Gabby to sleep. We were waiting for you. Wasn’t that sweet of him?”"And why is Gabby still awake?" I pretend to be irritated."Uncle Damon keeps losing and wants to play until he wins," Gabby smiles."Come on," I smile. "I wi
Elana POVThe courtroom is full, but I wouldn’t expect it not to be. There hasn’t been a scandal like that here in the Midsummer Pack since Alpha Owen was found dead in his office. Now, it is like the past is coming back to haunt us.I wasn’t sure I was going to come, but I am here anyway. I have told myself that I will be fine with whatever the outcome is, but the truth is, I feel like I might vomit. Damon isn’t a killer. I know that.Damon is sitting at the front, grinning stupidly at me. He lifts his hand and waves in my direction before blowing me a kiss. My cheeks flush with embarrassment, and I roll my eyes before they land on Victor. He hasn’t missed his brother’s actions or my response. Even from the back of the room, I can see his disdain for me and my friendship with is brother. Alexis slides into the seat beside me and nudges me with her elbow. “Did I miss anything?” “No,” I keep my eyes focused ahead. “They haven’t started yet.” As if on cue, Elder Watkins sm
Elana POVIt stinks in here, but not in the way you would expect. The smell of antiseptic and bleach is strong, and it stirs me from my sleep. I lift my hand to wipe the sleep from my eyes, but it feels heavy. My eyes flutter open, and I look around the room. It isn’t my room in the pack house or the room in my new apartment. I had hoped that everything that had happened over the past few weeks was just a bad dream, but every memory comes flooding into my mind. The rejection, Gabby missing, the fight, and Luna Helen saving Damon. I can’t stop the tears that prickle the corners of my eyes. It is all too much to bear. “Hey,” Damon’s voice catches my attention. I attempt to sit up awkwardly in the hospital bed. When I struggle to get comfortable, Damon jumps to his feet to help me. He fluffs a pillow behind my back, and I wince in pain. My shoulder is still throbbing. “What are you doing here?” I ask quietly. “I wanted to ask you a questions,” he replies. “Okay,” I
Elana POVSpinning on his heels, Victor turns his gaze to Damon. The shift happens so quickly that everyone gasps. Victor's black wolf is locked in combat with Damon's gray one."Take her home," I scream to Alexis.I don't want Gabby to see this. Alexis runs off with Gabby, and I scream for the two brothers to stop fighting. I attempt to use my Luna Command but it is gone. I am a regular pack member now. Both wolves are aiming to kill the other. No one dares to step in. They will likely fight to the death. It is hard to tell who has the upper hand. Damon is much stronger than he was five years ago. He is fighting like he has been waiting for this moment his whole life.Suddenly, they break apart, and I think the fight is over. Both are covered in blood and wounds. Damon's wolf is limping on his front paw. He cannot continue. The respectable thing for Victor to do would be to end the fight. Damon's wolf turns his head to look in my direction, and when he does, Victor rushes toward him.
“He is going to kill you,” I say in a panicked voice.Damon flashes me a smile that would make any woman’s knees go weak before he turns to face his brother. Axel stops just in front of Damon. He looks between the two of us and roars again. He shifts back and advances onto Damon.Gabby is shaking fiercely in my arms. “Stop!” I scream. “This will not take place in front of my daughter.” Victor looks between Damon and me and snarls. "This ends today!""You two can kill each other after I leave," I say angrily.I try to get to my feet with Gabby in my arms, but I stumble forward. Damon catches me by the shoulders and steadies me on my feet. Quickly, he takes Gabby from my arms and cradles her against his chest."Do not touch my daughter," Victor shouts. Now she is his daughter?! He ignores her and is cold to her and didn’t even try to come to her rescue, and this is the line he chose right now?! My mouth is hanging open as he takes Gabby from Damon. It might be all for show, but Ga
Elana POV“I am no longer the Luna,” I respond confidently. “Where is my daughter?”The rogue stalks toward me. He circles me, looking me up and down. His eyes roam over every inch of my body, making me feel dirty. Still, I hold my head tall.“Victor tossed you to the side,” he says, and I cannot tell if it is a question or not.“He wants nothing to do with me or our daughter. So, if you are looking for some sort of ransom, you are out of luck,” I tell him. “Just give me my daughter, and I won’t tell anyone you were on Midsummer Pack territory.”“But you have seen my face, Beautiful,” he smiles. “Now you have to come with me.”“I would rather die,” I snarl.“That can be arranged,” he laughs, “but then who would take care of your beautiful daughter?”He twists his finger around a lock of my raven hair, and I shudder at his touch. “Do not touch me,” I say through gritted teeth. The rogue is standing behind me, and I can feel his breath on my neck. Fear is burning in my chest, b
