Chapter 1

Author: Moore
Right after I submitted my application to dissolve my mate bond with Tobias Grafton, the pack healer, William Beaumont, called me.

"Luna, your body has already been worn down by silver poisoning. If you don't start treatment immediately, your life will be in danger. Are you sure you're not coming to the infirmary?"

I was quiet for a moment before answering honestly, "I'm dissolving my mate bond with Alpha Tobias. I'll be leaving the Moonshadow pack soon, so I won't be staying for treatment."

William sighed and offered a few words of sympathy before continuing, "We obtained a stalk of aurelune grass a few days ago. The antidote will be ready in two days. I've already reserved a dose for you. Are you sure you don't want to stay and wait?"

A flicker of hope stirred in my chest.

Aurelune grass was exceedingly rare. If I left the Moonshadow pack, there was no way I'd ever get my hands on the antidote on my own. I'd already resigned myself to dying, but if there was even a small chance I could live, then of course I wanted to take it.

"Thank you. I'll stay and wait for the antidote in two days."

I decided I would leave the Moonshadow pack only after I was cured, disappearing completely from my son, Nicholas Grafton, and Tobias' lives.

With the reservation slip in hand, I returned to the mansion.

The moment I pushed the door open, Nicholas slammed into me like a cannonball. "Mommy! Where did you go? I missed you so much!"

He wrapped his arms tightly around me, his voice dripping with affection.

I looked up to see Tobias and my half-sister, Whitney Lockwood, walking over side by side.

Whitney even took the initiative to greet me. "Luna, what took you so long? We're planning a little celebration for Nicholas."

Nicholas cast an anxious look at me before instinctively stepping in front of Whitney. "Mommy, I asked Aunt Whitney to come. Please don't be mad at her."

He stood his ground like a little gentleman, brave and protective. Unfortunately, I wasn't the person he had chosen to protect.

A dull ache flared in my heart, draining the color from my face in an instant.

When I didn't respond, Tobias frowned slightly. "Cordelia, it's Nicholas' birthday. Let's just go with what he wants. Don't make a scene."

Whitney looked at me with that same pitiful expression, appearing fragile.

"Luna, I know you've never liked me… but no matter what you want to say or do, can it wait until after Nicholas' birthday? I just want him to be happy."

Nicholas stretched his arms wide, firmly shielding Whitney behind him.

"Mommy, you're being mean. You're always picking on Aunt Whitney… Daddy and I don't like it when you act like this."

His words cut deep into my chest like a blade.

Both of them knew perfectly well that Whitney and I could never coexist peacefully.

She was my half-sister. Her mother killed mine and then stepped up to become my father's mate. Ever since we were children, she'd been taking anything I wanted.

I thought I would spend my entire life living in her shadow until I came to the Moonshadow pack's werewolf academy and met Tobias.

Our wolves chose each other, binding us as mates, and in time, we welcomed our pup into the world.

I truly believed I had finally found my own happiness, but a year ago, Whitney showed up at the Moonshadow pack too.

She played the victim to win Tobias' sympathy and turned my own son against me.

I tried for an entire year, only to watch them grow closer and closer.

Two years ago, Nicholas wandered to the edge of the pack and got caught in a defense trap. When I went to save him, the silver spikes pierced deep into my body.

Since then, the pain in my abdomen had only gotten worse. Despite treatment, the silver was never fully removed.

It wasn't until I saw the report confirming it was terminal that I finally realized it was time to let go.

"Then let's celebrate together. I don't mind," I said, my voice calm as I interrupted Nicholas' protests.

He froze for a moment, then his face lit up with disbelief and joy. "Mommy, you mean it? That's awesome!"

He turned and gave Whitney a tight hug, like he was afraid she might disappear.

Tobias shot me a suspicious look, but when he realized I wasn't going to make a scene or resort to any of my usual hysterics, a look of relief washed over his face.

"That's more like it," he said, sounding pleased. "Whitney is your sister. Wouldn't it be better if you two just got along? The past is in the past."

I forced a small smile, trying not to seem hurt.

In two days, I would be gone forever, and none of this would matter to me anymore.

When Tobias woke up in the pack infirmary, Matthew was right by his bedside. "Alpha, you're finally awake."Tobias stared at him for a moment before asking, "What did you use to calm me down?"At the very last moment, he had thought he caught my scent.Matthew told him that it was something I had prepared ahead of time, an item carrying my scent. Our wolves had chosen each other, and only my scent could calm him whenever he lost control."Cordelia…"Tobias' voice was laced with agony. He finally learned of my death from Matthew.Without the antidote, I had died of silver poisoning when I hemorrhaged.Whitney had people dump my body in a dark forest. It took Matthew a long time to recover what remained of me and bury me.Tobias looked like he was about to lose it.He couldn't accept that he and Nicholas had a hand in causing my death, so he placed all the blame on Whitney. If she hadn't taken my antidote, I wouldn't have died. When he ordered people to drive Whitney out of t

"You're saying Cordelia dissolved our mate bond? How is that even possible?"Tobias looked like he was on the verge of losing it. He had sent Matthew to track me down, and this was the answer he got."It's true, Alpha. Luna Cordelia filed for dissolution of your mate bond half a month ago. The day she went missing was the same day the mate bond officially ended."Matthew sounded frustrated. He had gone to great lengths to try to find any trace of me and had come up empty. He had even nearly been stripped of his position over it.Now that he finally had something concrete, it seemed Tobias was far from satisfied with it."That's impossible. Cordelia loves me. There's no way she would leave me!"Tobias simply couldn't come to terms with such a crushing reality. "Find her. I don't care where she is. Bring her back!"He needed to hear it from me himself. He needed to know why I could be so ruthless as to walk away like that.Battered and defeated, Tobias returned to the mansion.T

Tobias froze. "What did you just say? That's impossible. Cordelia has always been healthy. How could she possibly be in the terminal stage of silver poisoning? How much money did she pay you to help her spin such an outrageous lie?"The panic in his chest pushed him to say things without thinking.William was enraged. "Alpha, even if I'm punished for this, I won't lie against my conscience. The pack infirmary didn't have the means to treat it, so her condition deteriorated until it reached the terminal stage. "She fought so hard just to hold on until that antidote was finally ready, and you took away her only chance to survive. How could you do that?"His words cut deep, leaving Tobias gasping for air. "Is that really true? No… that can't be. If it were, why didn't she tell me…"He trailed off abruptly. He recalled how strongly I had refused when he asked for that antidote. I told him that I would die without it, but what did he do in response? He didn't believe me. He even all

On Whitney's first day in the mansion, she put on a flawless performance. She was gentle, hardworking, and always smiling as she played with Nicholas. She even took the initiative to cook for them.Tobias' restless mood eased slightly, while Nicholas stuck to her side like an excited little puppy. However, Whitney clearly wasn't good at handling raw meat, and the food she made didn't quite meet their expectations. After taking a bite, Nicholas frowned and said without thinking, "This doesn't taste like Mommy's cooking."He noticed Whitney's wounded expression, and a wave of regret washed over him immediately as he backpedaled to comfort her."It's okay… I mean, I don't really like Mommy's cooking either."He forced the half-cooked meat into his mouth and chewed quickly, trying to prove that he liked it.That night, Nicholas was rushed to the pack infirmary when his blood went out of control."How could you feed him something with frostsilver vine? Don't you know he's allergic

"Stefan! Where is Luna Cordelia?"Tobias' voice rang out sharply, though there was a trace of unease beneath it.His butler, Stefan Goddard, hurried over, his tone flustered. "Alpha, Luna hasn't returned these past few days you were away. Wasn't she admitted to the infirmary? Two days ago, the pack healer burst into the mansion and took her away. She was unconscious at the time, and she looked seriously ill."Tobias' expression shifted, and even Nicholas looked unsettled.Whitney stepped forward immediately, her voice heavily laced with insinuation as she addressed Stefan. "That can't be right. When she chased me with a dagger, I couldn't even get away from her, and she still managed to hurt me."How did she suddenly collapse right after I was hospitalized? Isn't that a little too much of a coincidence?"Her words landed exactly where she wanted them to.Tobias' face darkened, and Nicholas said with certainty, "Mommy even took me out to buy barbecue ribs. She's definitely not si

The moment I hemorrhaged, the silver surged through me and killed my wolf almost instantly. It didn't even have time to cry out before it vanished from my body. With my wolf gone, my body began to break down piece by piece. It happened so fast that I couldn't even react.A cold force pierced straight through my heart, and my heartbeat flatlined in an instant. I lay there quietly on the floor, while my soul drifted upward. When I looked down, I could still see my own corpse, my face twisted in agony from the way I'd died. All my emotions seemed to disappear as I died. Looking at my own body, I even found myself wondering how long it would take before someone discovered it.If Tobias saw my body, how would he react? The thought had barely formed when my soul suddenly appeared beside him.At that moment, he was standing at Whitney's bedside, his expression gentle as he personally handed her both the antidote and the healing potion.Whitney drank them with a frown and pouted.
