CHAPTER EIGHTEEN: TEAM PLAYER

I couldn’t help but to let out a sigh as we finished in last place yet again. With that, we were now at the bottom of the food chain. This was something that I was not used to. While everyone began to pair up for the egg challenge I took the time to go across the street to a convenient store and grab a Gatorade. I was losing interest in this day and everything was starting to irritate me. On my way back to the park, Andre approached me.

“I was wondering where you disappeared to,” he started, as he stood at my side.

“I just… needed a break from all of this.” He looked at me as if he were reading between the lines.

“You know what,” his voice went up an octave as he squinted his eyes at me. “I think your team is doing really great.”

“Yeah,” I said with a forced chuckle, eyeing him. “That’s why we are in last place.” I don’t know why he even bothered trying to lie. He put his arm over my shoulder, staring me in the face.
