CHAPTER 8 | MESSY CHEF

LORENZO'S POV

"Arghhh, oh my goodness." I screamed when I woke up the next morning to Echo staring at me.

"Can you stop screaming like a little girl?" She meant for it to be funny but I am honestly not finding it funny as my chest is still beating really fast from how scared I was to see her.

"What the hell?" I have to figure out a way to announce her presence because I will have an heart attack at this rate if I am not careful. "What's your plan? You want me to die of heart attack?" I asked as I reluctantly got out of bed.

"Take a chill pill Enzo, it's not that deep. You should be used to me by now."

"Pardon me for not getting used to your creepiness, it's already bad enough that you are a ghost and popping up uninvited and showing up anytime you want is making it even worse. Can you just stop creeping about, it's quite scary." I pointed out.

"Fine, I am sorry. I didn't mean to scare you." I felt bad about the way I spoke to her but popping in without notice is really scary.

"It's fine, why are you here?"

"Well you slept for too long and I got bored, can we see a movie together?" She asked and I am stunned at her request.

"A movie? You scared me this morning because of a movie?" I asked but she didn't say anything. "Fine, as you can see, I am just waking up. So give me a minute to freshen up, make breakfast before the movie, is that okay?" There is no way I am seeing movie this early on an empty stomach.

"Yes, it's okay." I entered the bathroom and brushed my teeth before we both left for the kitchen.

It's weird that we are two here but I will have to cook and eat alone but there is nothing I can do about it, so I brought out a few ingredients for pancakes and eggs.

"You are a messy chef." She pointed out when I poured flour on the island. "How come you know how to cook?" She asked curiously as she hovers over my shoulder.

"Well I learnt from my mom, I am always in the kitchen with her."

"Oh I see, you should flip the pancake if you don't want it burnt." She pointed out while still hovering around and making making faces.

"Can you stop?"

"Stop what?" She feigned oblivious but with the smile on her face, I am sure that she knows exactly what I am talking about.

"Stop hovering around me, are you always so stubborn and a pest when you were alive?" I asked curiously as I started frying the eggs.

"Well I don't know, I can't really remember much."

"I see, let's go. I am done here." I said as soon as I served myself.

"What about the mess, who is going to clean up after you?" Well that's one kitchen activity that I hate but I guess I will have to do it myself but definitely not now, not before I eat.

"Obviously not you, I will do it later."

"Okay but can you bring a snack out for me? I just want to pretend I can eat it." If I am being honest, her statement broke me and I instantly lost my appetite. I can't even imagine or understand how she feels or how she's coping with her new reality, she's obviously having a hard time and I wish there is something I can do to help her, her situation is undeniably sad.

"Sure." I brought out chips from the fridge and I took it with me to the living room along side a bottle of water for her and my food.

"So what do you want to watch?" I asked as I put the food and snacks on the coffee table before picking up the TV remote.

"Anything is fine."

"Okay, how about horror? After all we are basically living in an horrific situation." I pointed out as I played the first horror movie I saw. "Have you seen this before?" I asked curiously.

"No." I started eating while she hovered around me and at one point, she basically floated to the ceiling. Ever since she discovered how to levitate, it has become her favorite thing to do, I mean it's pretty cool and I think she might have other skills that she has not discovered yet. "Arghhh, oh my God... Arghhh." She suddenly screamed out of the blue and it scared me to the point where I splashed my drink all over the place.

"What the hell? What's your deal with scaring me?" I asked as I put my empty plate on the coffee table and the glass cup. "Whats the problem?" I asked when I looked at her hiding behind me looking so frightened.

"I can't, I can't watch the movie. It's too scary and bloody." She pointed out and I couldn't help but laugh.

"Hahaha, is that a joke?" I started laughing again because this is ludicrous. "Are you serious? A ghost is scared of a little horror movie, isn't it ironic?"

"You can laugh all you want but it's really scary and I just wanted a simple fun movie." I mean, I don't want to laugh at her but I couldn't help it.

"You scared me all the damn time and you are scared of a movie?"

"Not on purpose, I don't just go around with the intention of scaring you." She pointed out as I stopped the movie and played a comedy. "That's much better." She came out of her hiding place and started hovering around again.

We spent the rest of the day in the living room, seeing movies, laughing and chatting about random things and I made a mental note to go back to my research on how to help her, I need to help her because it will be really sad to watch her leave the rest of her life like this... I don't know the life she lived in the past or the type of lady she is but the little I know about her suggests that she doesn't deserve the life she's living right now, so I will make as many research as needed till I figure out how to help her.

I must have slept off or something because by the time I opened my eyes, the movie has ended and Echo is nowhere to be found. "Echo... Echo." I called but I got no response, so I turned off the TV and cleared the dishes to the kitchen.

I decided to go ahead and clean the kitchen, by the time I was done, I went to Echo's room to look for her. "Echo, are you here?" I asked as I entered her room and I saw her stepping out of the bathroom and I couldn't help but wonder what she's always doing in the bathroom because I remember that the first time I met her, she was in the bathroom as well.

"You are awake." She pointed out.

"Yeah, sorry I slept off."

"It's fine, any plans for tonigh?" She asked curiously and that was when I remembered that I have plans with Jayden for tonight, we are supposed to hang out tonight and I need to talk to him about Echo, maybe he might have an advice or suggestions on how to help her.

"Yeah, I am hanging out with my best friend. We haven't seen in forever and he was the one that convinced me to move here when I told him that I needed to change location, in fact he got this place for me. All I did was to send him the money and a week later or so, he sent me the address." He actually made my transition here very easy.

"Well it's good to know that you don't have a friend like mine, anyways can I follow you?" I don't think I will have time to talk to her or keep her company.

"I don't think it's a good idea, Jayden and I have a lot of catching up to do and I doubt I will have time for you." I pointed out truthfully besides there will be ladies there and I intend to have lots of fun.

"That's not a problem, I don't mind. I just want to get out of the house, I will give you space to do your thing." She stated but I don't believe her.

She's definitely going to hover around me and scare me and maybe even worse. "Fine but I have conditions, you can't scare me or make me look or act crazy. No sneaking around or popping up unexpectedly, do we have a deal?"

"Deal, we have a deal." She said excitedly.

"Okay then, I will go and get ready. See you in an hour or so." I stated before I left her room and headed for my room... I shouldn't have agreed for her to come with me but it's really difficult to say no to her especially when she's giving me the puppy dog eye.
