ログインKAIDA REED POV
"I told you not to fucking touch her!" He roared, grabbed my arm, and yanked me up from the floor. "Your father is no longer here to protect you, and in case you forgot, I own everything now. Everything," he said, then shoved me. Hard.
I stumbled, my hand reaching for the wall to steady myself.
The silence that followed seeped into my bones like ice. I couldn’t believe it, but it was reality. Lucien had really hit me.
"I don’t deserve this," I whispered, my teeth sinking into my lip. "All I’ve done is love you...so why am I being punished like this?"
He scoffed, then leaned in. "Because you forced a love that wasn’t meant to be."
I died a little inside. "I forced it?" I met his eyes. "You said you loved me. You asked me to marry you. How did I force anything?"
Helena jabbed a finger into my chest. "Are you really asking that question. You gave his sister your kidney. You literally forced him to love you!"
"I didn’t do it for him." My chest burned as I spoke. "Nessa was my friend long before she was his sister."
"Please," Helena scoffed, "The only reason you saved her was that you knew Lucien would have no choice but to pick you if you played the martyr."
"That is not true." My hands fisted in my hair as panic clawed up my throat. "You were all there at the hospital. I only agreed to donate because the doctor said any delay and she’d have died."
They both stared at me like I was out of my mind.
It was no use. They were going to blame me until the very end to cover up their own guilt. They could only be saints if I were the sinner.
"No matter how you try to paint it, Kaida, the truth is that you only did what you did to get me to marry you. You were obsessed with me. You made sure nothing stood in your way".
"Stop lying to yourself, you bastard. The real reason you’re doing all this is that you want to take over everything I have."
"Yes!" He thundered, the veins on his neck bulging. "After sacrificing so much of my time, I at least deserve that much. And just so you know, if Helena hadn’t proposed to kill you slowly, I would have done it a long time ago."
He took a deep breath and pointed at my face. "I have to admit, it was pretty satisfying watching you suffer. Watching you being so pathetic made all the years I spent by your side fucking worth it."
I blinked back tears, my hands curling into fists. "Well, I hope it was fun while it lasted because it’s all over now. Even after finding out that you were poisoning me, I was ready to die at your hands because I loved you so much. You are right, I’ve been foolish, but you have to be a bigger fool if you think you two will ever be together."
"What are you going to do?" he scoffed, then gripped my chin, tipping it up so I was staring into his dark, cruel eyes. "Are you going to report me to the cops? Will you finally tell them that I was the one who killed those men on the night of our engagement..."
I blinked, swallowing the ball lodged in my throat. How did he know? On that night, I thought he hadn’t seen me.
He grinned, all dark and evil. "Look at those eyes, Kaida. You can’t hide your emotions to save your life."
My nails dug into my palm. "I don’t know what you are talking about."
"Yes, you do." He leaned closer. "I won’t let you destroy everything I’ve worked so hard to build, Kaida."
Fear slithered down my spine.
"What are you going to do? If you kill me, you won’t get anything."
He laughed, then scoffed. "Is that what you think?"
"It’s what I know, so don’t do anything stupid."
I turned to leave and cried out in pain as Lucien grabbed me by the hair. His grip was so tight, it felt like my hair was being ripped out of my skull.
"Where the hell do you think you are going?" his eyes bored into mine. "You don’t think I am going to let you leave here alive, do you?"
Pain exploded as his fist slammed into my stomach.
I doubled over, then collapsed to the floor, my hands scrabbling uselessly against the tiles as I tried to breathe and failed.
"You should have fucking stayed home as I told you to!"
A kick landed against my ribs. Then another. I cried out, vision blurring as something cracked deep inside me.
No. Anymore and I was really going to die.
I tried to crawl away, my knees giving out at every attempt.
Mason.
I needed to scream for Mason. He was the only one who could help me.
But I was so weak.
"You look so fucking pathetic. Where do you think you’re crawling to, huh?" he stomped hard on my ankle.
I screamed, my vision darkening.
I must have passed out for a second because when I blinked, there were red stains on the tiles. Blood?
It was my blood. I was coughing up blood.
"What the hell are you doing" Helena screamed. "You can’t kill her here. All our plans will be ruined!"
"I don’t care!" Lucien’s roar tore through the haze in my head.
Feeling a surge of energy, I pulled myself to my feet and stumbled into the kitchen.
"Fucking hell, you just can’t stay down, can you," he snarled as he came after me.
Reaching out with a shaky hand, I grabbed the knife on the counter and turned, holding the blade in front of me.
A swift kick from him had me crashing to the floor. The knife skidded out of my hands.
I lay still, my vision hazy as more blood poured out of my mouth.
All the good times we shared flashed in my head, but this time, Lucien’s face was all dark and gnarly. Everything I thought had been love was all tainted, and it hurt so bad that I wanted to die.
"You shouldn’t have done that, Kaida," he sneered, leaned down, and picked up the knife. He inspected it, the dark grin on his lips stretching. "You should have drunk the poison I gave you and died like a good little girl."
He knelt over me and grabbed my neck. "If you did, you wouldn’t have had to die like this."
I clawed at his arm, my vision dimming, my chest burning.
"Please," I gasped, tears slipping down the side of my face. "Please, Lucien. Don’t kill me. Don’t...I won’t say anything—I swear."
He leaned in, his voice a cold whisper. "You used to tell me you’d die for me, so why are you begging for your life now? Was it all a lie? We both know I fucking hate liars!" he roared and before I could brace for it, he drew his hand back.
Something sharp drove into my chest.
The room went silent.
Ba-dump.
Ba-dump.
I blinked once. Twice.
Lucien’s face blurred as darkness swallowed the room.
"Everything is mine now," he whispered, pressing his lips to mine. "Don’t be such a fool in your next life, okay?"
I opened my mouth, but only blood spilled out.
He got off me, wiped my blood against his pants, and grinned.
"Great," Helena huffed, throwing her hand up. "Now we have to get rid of her body."
"Don’t worry. Mason will take care of it."
Mason? Was Mason in on this, too?
Lucien must have said something, but I didn’t catch it.
My eyes slowly slipped closed.
I was dying.
I was dying and they were going to get away with everything.
No. It can’t end like this.
It can’t.
I need another chance.
Darkness closed in, the thought burning brighter than the pain.
I needed another chance to take back everything that was stolen from me.
Just one more chance, and I swear I’ll destroy them.
Every last one of the people who hurt me.
ZAVIAN NOLVEN POV"Do you think you should be going to work already?" I asked quietly, pulling the zipper of her dress all the way up before letting my hand linger at the small of her back as our eyes met in the mirror."Why?" she asked softly, amusement dancing in those beautiful eyes of hers. "You don't want me to go?"I slowly shook my head. "I just want you to take things slow." Liar. "I am. But this board meeting is important.""Is it?" I asked softly. "I think they'll understand if you postponed it, don't you?" My hand slipped around her waist, drawing her a little closer. "You've been through too much these past few weeks. You deserve a little time to breathe before throwing yourself back into work."She turned until she was facing me completely, her expression melting into something so unbearably gentle that it made my heart clench. She reached for my hand without hesitation, intertwining our fingers as if it was the most natural thing in the world."I know you're worried, b
YILENA HOLT POV "I still don't trust you. You know that right?" Helena got out, looking up from the drink in front of her, the suspicion she felt glaring to see."I know." Without asking, I reached across the table, took her glass from her hands, and brought it to my lips. Her eyes followed every movement, narrowing slightly as I took a slow sip before placing it back exactly where it'd been. It was a pointless gesture, really, but one that said more than words ever could. If I intended to betray her, poisoning her drink would've been a stupid way to go about it."You don't have to worry about me stabbing you in the back, Helena," I said quietly, holding her gaze. "Not this time. Especially not when I have something at stake too.""Kaiser?" she asked arching a brow.I nodded, looking down at the table. "I don't know how she knew he meant something to me, Helena, but she has him locked up in her basement. She's threatening to kill him if I don't do what she wants." I looked up slowly,
HELENA REED POV Damon was going to kill me.I turned slowly in the bath and instantly regretted it, my eyes squeezing shut as pain shot up my spine.Fuck. Everything hurt. My back felt like it'd been beaten with a damn baseball bat, my shoulders were sore, and my wrists... I lifted one out of the water, my eyes narrowing on the ugly bruises circling them. Bastard.I could still remember the sting of his hand connecting with my face, the force behind it stealing the air from my lungs before he'd grabbed me hard enough to leave those marks. The memory made my stomach churn, because I could also remember just how much I'd begged him to stop. Remembered my voice growing hoarse from screaming while he ignored every single word that came out of my mouth like they meant nothing. How many more days did I have to endure this? This wasn't what I'd agreed to. I'd agreed to sex—normal fucking sex and not whatever master-submissive thing we had going on. I thought that with how far he went just
KAIDA REED POV The woman stared at me, eyes wide with shock. "Excuse me," she gasped, then her eyes flashed to Zavian's. "Is she talking to me?" She asked, pointing to herself. "Are you just going to stand there and let her disrespect your mother?"Zavian scoffed, shaking his head before taking a step toward her, his body naturally shielding me as if on instinct. "Do you really expect an answer to that question?" He glanced back at me, the look in his eyes making my heart skip a beat. "Kaida is the lady of my house, and in this house, whatever she says goes." He slowly turned his head, his eyes locking onto those of his mother who was still waiting expectantly. "You understand what that means right?"She sputtered, almost having a stroke as her eyes moved from Zavian to mine, then back again, then to her husband who stood so rigidly still, I feared he was going to burst a blood vessel. "You must have really lost your damn mind. I didn't think it was possible but you actually managed
ZAVIAN NOLVEN POV We all sat in silence, the tension in the air so thick I could cut through it with a knife if I had one.Mother sat rigidly beside Father, her sharp eyes fixed on me with that familiar mix of disdain and rage I'd come to expect ever since the night I reported Father to the authorities.I knew she hated my guts. Knew that she'd rather be anywhere but here. But she came anyway, and judging by what I knew about their dynamics, she was only here as backup in case Father failed. They were really the perfect match, weren't they?Father cleared his throat, the sound rough and deliberate as his sharp eyes finally dragged away from Kaida where they'd been glued since the moment he and his people had forced their way into my space. "We saw the news about your marriage," he said, his voice carrying that calculated calm he always wore like a second skin. "I must say, it came as quite a shock.""Did it?" I asked, leaning forward slowly, my elbows bracing against the heavy oak d
KAIDA REED POV The sun's rays streaking through the window made me wince. I turned onto my side, a sigh escaping my lips as I burrowed deeper into the cool sheets. "So good," I murmured into the pillow, my hand squeezing the thick fabric before going in search of Zavian. The feel of the cold sheet underneath my fingertip made my eyes snap open and when I saw that he wasn't in the room, I sat up so fast my head spun with it."Ugh, that hurts," I groaned, pressing a finger to the side of my head as my gaze darted around the room. Where was he, and why did everything look so clean?I expected to see a bit of a mess from how rough we were last night—wait, did Zavian clean everything up while I was passed out? Or did he have someone else do it? I doubted it was the latter, because he'd also cleaned me up too.My eyes moved to the space beside me again, a strange sensation burning in my chest as I stared at the empty cold space.Just how long has he been gone? And why didn't he wake me?
HELENA REED POV"What the hell happened to her? You were supposed to be watching her!" Lucien yelled, his hand pressing into Yilena’s shoulders as he shook her."I was watching her!" she pushed him off, her chest heaving as she glared at him. "But I have a life too. You don’t expect me to be by her
KAIDA REED POV I turned to my car, my hands grabbing the door handle to open it when the headlights of an oncoming car suddenly blinded me.I paused, blinking the droplets of water from my lashes. Who the hell could it be?The car stopped. Lucien came out.My blood turned to ice, everything insid
YILENA HOLT POVTHE NIGHT BEFORE.RESTAURANT."What do you want? Why did you bring me here?"The woman smiled lazily, as if my irritation was mildly entertaining, then looked up from her steak."You should eat first," she said calmly, lifting a bite to her mouth. "Aren't you hungry?""Cut the bulls
KAIDA REED POV"Where are you going?"Lucien paused near the door, his hand tightening around the phone in his hand. I stared at it, my lips pursing.Did he get a message from Helena? I bet he hadn't told her yet that he had to return the money they stole. I wondered how that conversation would go
