POV: GUINE

Kael laughed when I rejected him, and for the first time, his laughter sounded like the voice of a man who had never known me at all.

"A rejection ritual?" He shook his head, a smirking, arrogant expression settling over his features as he leaned back against the edge of his desk. "Guine, stop this foolishness. You are throwing a tantrum over household accounts. Do you really think you can scare me into paying more attention to you?"

He crossed his arms, looking down at me as if I were a child making empty threats.

"Let me remind you of reality," Kael continued, his voice dripping with condescension. "Without my protection, you have no independent standing. Your family depends entirely on the alliance between the Moonstar Pack and yours. You enjoy the luxury of this Pack, the prestige of being my Luna, and the respect of my elders because of my name."

Every word falling from his lips made my blood run cold, not from fear, but from horror at how completely blind I had been. I recognized every sentence. He had spoken those same words to me years ago in my first life when I dared to question his coldness. Back then, I had cowered. I had apologized, picked up my ledger books, and worked twice as hard to earn his approval.

Not this time.

"I am not trying to frighten you, Kael," I said, my voice steady and deadly quiet. "I am declaring an undeniable truth. Under ancient pack law, a formal rejection spoken before witnesses cannot be dismissed as a lover's quarrel. It must be officially acknowledged and recorded."

The smirk vanished from Kael's face, replaced by a sudden flare of Alpha authority. His posture stiffened, his golden eyes narrowing into dangerous slits.

"Careful, Guine," he warned, his tone sharp enough to cut glass. "If you push this ridiculous show any further, you will lose everything. You will lose your position, your privileges, your access to this household, and every luxury my name affords you."

"Those privileges were never worth the price I paid for them," I fired back, taking a deliberate step toward him. "I gave you my youth, my energy, and my personal wealth to keep your pack afloat, while you treated me like an obedient servant. I am done."

As our argument intensified, a chaotic murmur swelled inside my mind. My new ability roared to life, piercing through the heavy atmosphere of the room. Beneath Kael's visible fury, his unspoken thoughts bled straight into my head, loud and clear.

(She is bluffing. She is far too weak to survive out there on her own. Let her throw her little fit. Once she realizes how cold the world is without the Moonstar name protecting her, she will come crawling back to my feet, begging for forgiveness.)

A bitter realization settled deep in my chest. He didn't love me enough to fear losing me. He wasn't angry because his mate was leaving; he was terrified of losing the silent worker who managed his finances, solved his pack's problems, and kept his family wealthy.

"We will see if I come crawling back," I whispered, the quiet conviction in my voice catching him off guard.

Without waiting for his response, I turned toward the heavy double doors of the drawing room and pulled them open. Two guards and the senior household steward were standing in the hallway, looking nervous.

"Steward Vance," I called out firmly.

The elder steward hurried forward, bowing his head. "Yes, Lady Guine?"

"Fetch the pack's legal ledger and the official witnesses," I commanded, keeping my eyes fixed on Kael, who stood frozen behind his desk. "Alpha Kael and I require the formal declaration of mate rejection to be documented immediately."

Steward Vance gasped, his eyes wide with shock. "My Lady... surely you cannot mean…."

"Do as she says, Vance," Kael interrupted, his voice laced with venomous pride. He walked over, his eyes burning with anger. "If my mate wants to ruin her life over her pride, let her sign the paper. She will realize her mistake soon enough."

"I am no longer your mate," I replied coldly.

Ten minutes later, three senior pack elders stood in the drawing room, whispering nervously among themselves. Steward Vance placed the heavy parchment on the mahogany table, his hand trembling as he handed me the feather quill and black ink.

Kael stood across from me, his jaw clenched, waiting for me to hesitate. He truly believed that the sight of the legal paper would break my resolve.

I didn't blink. I dipped the quill in ink and signed my name with smooth, unhurried precision.

“Guine Ravenshade.”

I used my maiden name, shedding the Draven title forever.

"The rejection ritual will take place tomorrow morning in the central hall before the full council," I announced, placing the quill back on the tray. "Prepare the severance documents."

Without giving Kael another glance, I turned on my heel and walked out of the room, leaving him standing in stunned silence amid the murmurs of his elders.

I returned to my chambers and locked the heavy oak door behind me. My hands were shaking, but my heart felt lighter than it had been in years. I had taken the first step toward freedom, but freedom meant nothing if I could not survive the catastrophe coming in fifty days.

I needed resources. I needed a sanctuary.

I began tearing through my private mahogany desk, clearing away stacks of Moonstar household ledgers, trade reports, and financial audits. Deep at the very bottom of a hidden drawer, my fingers brushed against a yellowed, dusty envelope tied with a black silk ribbon.

I pulled it out with trembling hands.

In my first life, a legal solicitor had delivered this envelope to me shortly after my marriage to Kael. It contained a deed of inheritance from a distant, forgotten relative of the Ravenshade bloodline. Back then, Kael had dismissed it as a worthless piece of land in the far mountains, a decaying ruin not worth the tax records, and I had foolishly believed him and forgotten all about it.

I untied the ribbon and unfolded the heavy parchment.

As my eyes scanned the ornate cursive writing, a sudden chill ran down my spine, freezing the breath in my lungs.

The document declared me the sole owner of a vast mountain territory, complete with ancient bloodline rights, deep silver mines, and an isolated gothic fortress.

The name of the estate burned into my eyes:

Eclipse Hollow.

The place I had abandoned and ignored in my first life may be the only reason I can survive my second.

POV: GUINEI had rejected Kael in front of witnesses. I thought that would be the end of it. I did not expect his mistress to move against me before the sun even set.The morning after the rejection ritual, the manor felt colder than usual. The heavy silence of the long stone corridors was broken only by the nervous shuffling of servants who went out of their way to avoid my eyes. When I called for my maid to fetch the morning ledgers and send word to the timber and grain merchants I normally dealt with, she returned empty-handed, trembling as she stammered that every single merchant was suddenly "unavailable."By afternoon, the truth behind their sudden absence became clear.Morgause Wren had visited my mother late last night. She had not come as a polite guest bearing condolences for a shattered marriage. She had come as a calculated woman protecting her newfound position, moving swiftly to consolidate her power before I could even pack my trunks.I didn't need to confront the house

POV: GUINEThe estate everyone told me was worthless was hiding enough wealth to make me independent of every person who had ever controlled me.By the morning following the rejection, rumors had already spread like wildfire through the highest aristocratic circles. The high-born ladies and pack nobility whispered behind their lace fans, claiming I had suffered a nervous breakdown. Kael’s supporters were vocal and mocking, loudly declaring across the district that I would regret abandoning an Alpha’s protection the moment reality set in. They assumed I would come crawling back once I found myself penniless and socially ruined. They had no idea where I was going.Shortly after dawn, my carriage pulled up in front of the quiet, grey-stone office of sir. Thaddeus, the senior solicitor responsible for managing the dormant Ravenshade legal affairs. In my first life, my mother and Uncle Reginald had persuaded me to ignore the Ravenshade inheritance entirely. They had insisted that Eclipse H

POV: GUINEWhen the bond finally broke, I expected heartbreak. I did not expect the darkness inside me to wake up.I stood before the full-length mirror, adjusting the high lace collar of my dress. My mother had thrown a weeping fit earlier, begging me to wear a soft pastel rose gown to make myself look "gentle and agreeable" for Kael. I had refused. Instead, I wore a restrained black silk dress, devoid of color or pretense. I was not appearing today as a repentant wife begging for forgiveness. I was appearing to cut a parasite from my life. The rejection ritual took place in the central hall of the Moonstar estate. Sunlight streamed through the stained-glass windows, casting sharp ruby and sapphire light across the stone floor. Kael stood opposite me beneath the massive carved crescent moon, his tall frame clad in his formal Alpha jacket. His expression was cold, proud, and utterly confident. The pack’s appointed officiant, an elderly wolf named Elder Thomas, cleared his throat, his

I had barely finished packing my private ledgers into an iron-bound chest when my mother, Lady Vespera, and my uncle, Lord Reginald, burst into my quarters without knocking."Guine! Have you completely lost your mind?" my mother cried, her voice rising to a sharp screech as she swept into the room, her heavy silk gown rustling loudly. "You dare publicly humiliate Alpha Kael? You speak of formal mate rejection as if your marriage were a childish game!"Uncle Reginald slammed the heavy oak door shut behind them, his round face flushed with rage. "You are destroying this family's future over a petty marital disagreement! Kael is a powerful Alpha. Do you have any idea what will happen if the Draven household withdraws its financial p
