“Wow…”
Evie was amazed. Evely’s life was on the same level as those dramas she watched on the magic box— er television.
“That’s why dad did not want you to know…” Francis' voice choked. “If I could, I would do everything to change the past…”
Evie reached out and placed a finger against her father’s lips, silencing him.
“Legitimate or not— this doesn’t change the fact that I am your daughter and you are my father,” she said, making both her parents stare at her with teary eyes. “Besides, with you as my dad and Liz as my mom, who would dare look down on me?”
Evie puffed out her chest, looking very proud, making h
Normandy was one of the oldest established regions in the North of France. It had a long coastline with white-chalk cliffs that made it a preferred landing spot and beachhead during the second world war. One of the said beaches was Omaha Beach, the famous landing site of D Day. Just off its coast was one of the country’s most famous tourist spots, the island where the great gothic abbey of Mon-Saint-Michel was built. The City of Rouen, Normandy’s prefecture, was one of the largest cities in medieval ages. It boasted the gothic style cathedral, where the hero Joan of Arc was executed in 1431. Even though it had been affected by the Hundred Years War between France and England, it remained a majestic city. Since the abolishment of the monarchy, most of the noble families switched into businesses, making most of them retain their huge estates and properties. On
“Cecille?”At the mention of the name, Cedric de la Roche placed his elbows on the table and clasped his hands together like a tent as he bowed. Ralph and Isaac looked on in worry as well as fear, most especially since the atmosphere in the room only turned more oppressive. It was summer but the temperature in the room was low, and was still dropping continuously by the second. Soon, the furniture began to be wrapped in white mist, while the glasses in the room, like the window, became foggy.“Y-Young Master…”“B-Boss…”Ralph and Isaac called out simultaneously just as the water in the glass cylinder sitting on the table for the Young Master to drink began to freeze. Then, the
“Cedric de la Roche! You’re being too much!” Cain de la Roche yelled, but of course, he dared not move from his place. He knew his son all too well that he’d follow his words even if he got into trouble. If he said he would kill him then he would kill him. Even if he felt aggrieved as his son never showed him respect— not since his mother died, he had no courage to really scold and anger him. He turned to the men who remained unmoving behind.“What are you two doing? Stop your master before he kills his sister!” Cain sounded desperate, but both Ralph and Isaac ignored him, making the older man more livid. “Are you deaf? I said stop him!”Ralph and Isaac looked at him as if he was deranged.“With all due respect
“Ah!” Cedric did not waste time and immediately walked towards the room at the end of the corridor and entered. The room was huge and fitted out with many different life saving and monitoring equipment. In the farthest side of the room was a hospital bed specially designed for André. At the foot of the bed was his automatic wheelchair that worked more like a robot than ordinary mobility aid."Young Master, the Master is showing signs of waking up soon. He moved his fingers earlier before falling back to sleep again."Cedric nodded and then waved at the doctor and nurses who started leaving, as he crossed the room towards the bed. In it lay a young man who looked to be in his early twenties. He looked a bit similar to Cedric, but the aura which surrounded him was gentler. He was like a total
HBB…Evie sat on her hospital bed as she stared at the entry in her phonebook with a bland expression. She had been doing the very same thing for days since she got her phone from her parents. However, no matter how many times she tried to jog her memory— hers and Evely’s, she could not find anything useful to indicate that she had any encounter with her mysterious fiancé.André de Lancy…Even after repeating his name in her mind like a mantra, the only memory of him she was able to conjure was when that fake sister of hers mentioned his name when she was drugged. The other memory was also just a mention. Evely was supposed to meet her fiancé two years from now before she was kidnapped by the same people who buried her. After that, there was nothing but blanks.
Evie Hunt might be vengeful, but she was not a scum. The man did not do anything bad to Evely so he was not part of the people she planned to take revenge on. Besides, according to Francis, they had a good relationship. Since she’d already decided to live on as Evely— at least while she still had no idea how to go back to her world, then shouldn’t she take her fiancé too?Urgh…Another wave of headache came and she marched out of the bathroom in a defeated state with her hand on her head.“What’s wrong? Are you having another headache?” a voice asked and Evie looked up to see Dr. Jensen sitting on one of the couches in her room. “Do you want me to ring for a nurse?”Oh…
This rendered Dr. Jensen quiet again as he carefully studied her face. Then, he took the notebook he brought with him that lay on his side and began scribbling on it. He always came to her room to talk to her, but she had never really seen him write anything on the notebook until now.“So you have a super hearing ability?” he asked simply. “When did it start?”“I’ve had it since I was born,” she replied and the doctor looked up and studied her with careful eyes.“You were born with it,” he prompted and Evie sighed. She felt her earlier pomp go away along with her energy. It looked like she revealed herself for nothing. This man was clearly human. Evie was afraid that when
Silence prevailed in the room. The rooms in the VIP ward of the hospital were all soundproofed. After Evie’s words, not a sound was heard except for the ticking of the clock on the far wall. Most people would have asked what happened or how something happened. But Dr. Carl Jensen was a professional. He patiently waited for her to share her story. And share, she did.For the first time since she came to Earth, Evie willingly tapped the memories she had placed at the back of her mind. She threw it there not because she wanted to forget everything that happened to her, but because she had no time. She still had to deal with adjusting to the new world. She had to concentrate on analyzing the memories she had inherited from Evely, so that her soul could integrate faster to her new body.
