The rain fell in relentless sheets, drumming against the tall glass windows of the Carter estate like a warning no one could hear. Inside, the grand hall shimmered with chandeliers and polished marble floors, a place that once felt like home to Elaine Carter. Tonight, it felt like a stage—cold, distant, and cruel.

Elaine stood at the center of it all, her fingers trembling slightly as she clutched the edge of the long dining table. Her heart pounded, not from fear alone, but from disbelief. Across from her stood Lily Carter, her stepsister, dressed in white silk like some untouchable angel. But Elaine knew better now. Behind that soft smile was something far darker.

“You look surprised, Elaine,” Lily said softly, tilting her head. “I thought you would have figured it out by now.”

Elaine’s voice came out strained. “Why…? Why would you do this to me?”

Lily let out a small laugh, the sound echoing too sharply in the vast room. “Why? Because you had everything handed to you. Father’s love, the inheritance, the admiration… even Daniel.”

At the mention of his name, Elaine’s chest tightened. Daniel—the man she trusted, the man she thought she would marry—stood silently beside Lily. His eyes avoided hers, and that alone told her everything.

“You betrayed me too?” Elaine whispered.

Daniel said nothing.

Lily stepped closer, her heels clicking softly against the marble floor. “Oh, Elaine, don’t look so hurt. You were always too naive. Did you really think someone like you could keep everything forever?”

Tears burned in Elaine’s eyes, but she refused to let them fall. “This isn’t yours. None of it is.”

“It is now,” Lily replied calmly. “The will has been changed. The business is under my control. And as for you…” She paused, her lips curving into a faint smile. “You’re no longer needed.”

Before Elaine could react, two men stepped forward from the shadows. Panic surged through her.

“Lily, what are you doing?” Elaine backed away, her voice shaking now. “This is insane!”

“Not insane,” Lily corrected. “Necessary.”

The men grabbed Elaine’s arms. She struggled, her strength no match for theirs. “Let me go! Lily, stop this!”

But Lily only watched, her expression unreadable.

The last thing Elaine saw before everything went dark was her stepsister’s cold, satisfied gaze.

A sharp gasp tore through Elaine’s chest as she jolted upright.

Her heart raced wildly, her body drenched in sweat. For a moment, she couldn’t breathe. The memory—the betrayal, the fear, the darkness—it all felt too real.

But something was wrong.

The room around her was unfamiliar… yet strangely known. Sunlight streamed through soft curtains, warm and gentle. The bed beneath her was plush, untouched by the chaos she remembered.

Slowly, she looked down at her hands.

They were… younger.

Smoother.

Unscarred.

“What…?” she whispered, her voice trembling.

Elaine stumbled out of bed, her legs weak. She rushed toward the mirror across the room, her reflection coming into view.

It was her.

But not the broken version from that night.

This was her from years ago.

Her breath caught in her throat. “No… this can’t be real…”

Memories flooded her mind—dates, events, conversations. This room… this dress… this morning—

“This is… before everything,” she realized.

Before the betrayal.

Before the will was changed.

Before Daniel.

Before Lily destroyed her life.

Elaine gripped the edge of the dresser, her mind spinning. “I… I came back?”

The impossible truth settled heavily in her chest.

She had been given another chance.

At first, fear crept in. The thought of reliving everything, of facing Lily again, sent a chill down her spine. But then something else replaced it.

Something stronger.

Resolve.

Elaine straightened slowly, her reflection staring back at her with new intensity. The girl in the mirror was no longer naive. No longer blind.

This time, she knew the truth.

This time, she knew her enemy.

“Lily Carter…” Elaine whispered, her voice steady now.

The name no longer carried pain alone—it carried purpose.

A slow, controlled smile formed on her lips.

“You took everything from me once,” she said quietly. “But this time…”

Her eyes hardened, burning with quiet determination.

“I’ll take it all back.”

Outside, the sun shone brightly, as if nothing had changed.

But everything had.

Because Elaine Carter was no longer the girl who would be betrayed.

She was the one who would rewrite the story.
