BROOKS POV

Anger was the first thing that hit me when I looked at Levi standing in front of me. Not confusion, not disbelief, just pure, consuming anger that rose so fast it nearly made it hard to breathe.

Seven years. Seven years of rebuilding myself from the ground up, of learning how to exist without him, of surviving after what he did to me, and now less than an hour after finding me again, he was already standing there cornering me like I had never escaped him at all.

LEVIThe palace had never sounded like this before. For years, it had been controlled, orderly, almost too quiet unless there was a gathering or an official function. Even then, the noise had always been measured and contained. But now, the entire compound was filled with the kind of chaos that couldn’t be managed. The good kind of chaos. And for once, I didn’t want it managed or even to end.And Rowan was in the middle of it.He and the other little boys from Blackfang were tearing through the open space as they owned it, their laughter loud and unrestrained, their small feet pounding the ground as they chased each other in wild, uncoordinated circles. One of them shouted something I didn’t quite catch, another boy responded even louder, and Rowan’s voice rose above them all, bright and alive in a way I hadn’t heard enough of.I leaned back slightly where I stood, my arms folded loosely, watching them.Watching my son. There was something about the way he moved now, still a little

  • RECLAIMING HIS REJECTED MATE    29: Like a Starved Man

29BROOK'S POV I squeezed my eyes shut, trying to physically block out the sensations I was feeling. But it was a futile effort. The darkness behind my eyelids didn’t help. It only amplified the phantom feelings of his dark eyes boring into my skin. My heart hammered against my ribs, a frantic rhythm that I couldn't suppress. I told myself to breathe, but my willpower was disintegrating fast.I pressed my palms flat against the cool fabric of my skirt, trying to anchor myself, to remember my loyalty to Flint. But it was hard when this man was currently staring at me like I was the only water in a desert. When I opened my eyes, the distance between us had vanished. He was standing directly in front of me, inches away, the dark hair falling over his forehead, making him look wild and predatory. The sudden closeness was a physical shock. So I gasped, instinctively stepping backward and stumbling in the process. I landed on the chair behind me, sprawling awkwardly against it, my legs

  • RECLAIMING HIS REJECTED MATE    28: I'll Do Anything

BROOK'S POV I stepped out of my room still trying to steady my thoughts, but the moment I got downstairs, I slowed to a stop. Levi was already there, seated with a woman I recognized immediately as the nutritionist, and the head cook stood nearby with a notepad in hand. Papers were spread across the table, and they were deep in discussion, like this had been going on for a while.Levi looked up the second I appeared, his gaze finding me easily. “I sent a maid to call you earlier. She said you were in the bathroom.”I didn’t respond to that. I just moved closer, my eyes drifting to the papers on the table as the nutritionist continued talking. I listened quietly, arms folding loosely across my chest, taking it all in. They discussed meal portions, balanced nutrition, and the need to transition Rowan’s system rather than overwhelming it slowly. Part of me wanted to interrupt, to remind them that we wouldn’t even be here long enough for any of this to matter, but another part of me

  • RECLAIMING HIS REJECTED MATE    27: You Have To Do What He Wants

BROOK’S POV The next day, I finally got a chance to speak to Flint after not being able to reach him for days.I picked up my phone on the bed and dialed his number. My fingers tightened slightly around my phone as it rang, my chest already feeling too tight before he even picked up.When the line finally connected, I didn’t speak immediately.“Brooks?” his voice came through, a little rough, a little strained, and that alone made something twist painfully in my chest. “Are you okay?”“I’m sorry,” I cut in quickly, the words rushing out before anything else could. “I should have called earlier. Rowan was sick.”I could almost picture the way his expression would have shifted.“How is he?” he asked immediately, his voice sharpening with concern.“He’s better now. It’s just one of his usual episodes,” I said quickly, forcing the lie out even though it felt wrong on my tongue. “You know how he gets sometimes. Weak immune system and all that.”There was a small exhale on his end, like he

  • RECLAIMING HIS REJECTED MATE    26: They Did This To My Son

LEVI'S POV The steady beeping of the machines and the faint antiseptic smell all blended into a dull background noise that did nothing to ease the tension coiling tight in my chest. My gaze stayed fixed on Rowan, where he lay on the bed, smaller and more fragile than he should be, too still, and every time his chest rose and fell, I found myself watching it like I didn’t trust it to keep going on its own.But that wasn’t the only thing running through my head. Her words from earlier kept replaying, sticking in a way that irritated something deep in me.My mother-in-law.The phrase alone grated against my nerves in a way that didn’t make sense until I let myself sit with it. Flint’s mother. That was who she was referring to. I exhaled slowly, my jaw clenching as I dragged my gaze away from Rowan for a second, only for my mind to circle right back to him again. The doctor’s words hadn’t left me either. Poison. That wasn’t something that just happened. That was something that had be

  • RECLAIMING HIS REJECTED MATE    25: A Scare

25BROOK'S POV The scream came sharp enough to slice straight through the corridor and drag every ounce of air out of my lungs. I was already moving before my mind fully caught up, my feet hitting the floor harder with each step as I followed the sound into Rowan’s room. The second I crossed the doorway, I saw Rowan was bent forward over the edge of the bed, his small body trembling violently as he vomited. The maid stood beside him, both hands hovering uselessly in the air like she was terrified to touch him and terrified not to. I didn’t understand what I was seeing at first, not until I heard the wet, choking sound again and saw the dark red splatter against the bowl she had rushed under him too late.My stomach dropped so violently it felt like the floor had disappeared beneath me.“Rowan!” He coughed again, and more blood came up. Real blood enough to make my vision blur at the edges.“He was just eating,” the maid stammered, her voice shaking so badly it cracked. “He was fi
