THIRD PERSONS POV

“No running in the house, Danielle. The floors are still wet,” Bethany, Danielle's grandmother, scolded good-naturedly.

Danielle didn't listen. She was all too happy to be playing around with the house puppy, ignoring the maids’ warnings too, and dirtying the newly cleaned floor.

Danielle was having the time of her life in her home.

She had not seen her mother in days, but she didn't care. She was absolutely free without her around.

There were no stern looks, no “Danielle, finish your homework first or Danielle stop running around.”

After all, her grandparents and grandma treated her like a treasure. Her grandpa wasn't alive, but she was sure that if he were, he would have done the same as well. Only her Mother scolded her, and only she restricted her from doing certain things.

For the past few days, she hasn’t been scolded like her mother would or told to do what she didn’t want to do.

“Grandma, look! Chase wants to dance too,” Danielle twirled, holding the puppy li

SARA'S POVA mirthless smile crossed my lips, "What I mean is that Derek and I are getting divorced."Bethany's face turned a shade paler and her mouth parted as though she was ridden with disbelief. For a second, even Derek who was always so stoic lost his composure and was taken aback before he controlled his expression again."If you think someone should be lectured about propriety then I think your son is the right person you should speak to," I added then crossed my arms into each other. My eyes glinted with amusement when Bethany sputtered speechlessly. When Bethany finally got over her surprise, her nostrils flared and her body trembled with restrained anger, "You...""Mom," Derek's sharp call cut her off.Bethany shifted her gaze to him and glared while I was struck with astonishment. The way he called for her suggested that he was calling his mother to order but I dared not trust Derek simply because he had backed me up a few times.I still had my suspicions that him doing th

THIRD PERSON'S POVSara froze for a second and she gripped the hem of her cloth. She hadn't realised it wasn't just Derek she needed to avoid but his mother too. If she knew Bethany would show up then she wouldn't have given in to Danielle's request for breakfast and would have left long enough to avoid meeting her mother-in-law who was very nearly insufferable. As expected, Bethany found her way up the stairs, her voice growing louder as she approached. Her heels clicked against the tiles as well, another loud proclamation of her arrival.Sara knew what she had to do, she was just going to ignore her the way she did to Derek."There you are," Bethany's voice carried across the hallway, echoing for additional effect. Her gaze landed first on Derek, who she smiled at, then flicked to Sara and her smile waned, *You are here too, Sara. How convenient."Sara's eyes flickered. The way Bethany spoke sounded as though she knew something Sara was not privy to but at the same time, Bethany alw

SARA'S POVI woke up with an unnatural stiffness in my limbs, especially my left arm.For a minute, I didn't recognize the pale ceiling above me or the soft sound of breath next to my ears, nor did I register the warmth of the person that had used my arm as cushioning for their head as Danielle The fog in my eyes finally cleared and I glanced down at my daughter who was sleeping with her hands tucked beneath her chin. Her lashes curled downwards and her breath game smoothly and easily. For a second, I had an urge to caress her cheeks but stopped myself before I could do so and wiggled myself out of her hold.I stood up and peered down at her for a long minute, unsure what to do.Waking her didn't seem right and I didn't want a situation whereby she would pester me to stay the rest of the day like she had down last night.Up until this moment, I couldn't believe that I had fallen asleep when my initial plan was to slip out after she fell asleep. But, who was I kidding?Yesterday was g

THIRD PERSON'S POVDanielle was woken up in the middle of the night by an urge to urinate. She sat up in bed and rubbed her eyes groggily, feeling the burn in her bladder. "Mommy," She turned to her side, wanting to wake Sara but her hands froze mid air when she saw that mommy was fast asleep. No, she wouldn't wake her. She could go to pee by herself. Mommy looked too peaceful in her sleep. Moreover, what if she woke mommy and then mommy decided to leave her side? She didn't want that, she enjoyed snuggling up to mommy too much.Gently, she helped herself off her bed then went into the bathroom. When she returned to the room, she crept silently back to her space in the bed, still doing her utmost best to be careful not to wake mummy. While laying down, Danielle seriously began to scrutinize mommy's face. Why didn't she realise mommy was so beautiful before now? She was almost as beautiful as Aunt Alyssa. The thought of Aunt Alyssa made her recollect what happened earlier in the day a

SARA’S POVThe car ride back to Derek's home was silent, very silent. When I glanced back through the rearview mirror, it was to see Danielle with pursed lips, looking like an adult trying to decipher a serious equation. It made me want to ask what was running through her young mind that she had to think so deeply about but I didn't.i already did it earlier and it had yielded no result. When I pulled into the driveway of Derek's house, Danielle still didn't react or make an attempt to get off and a frown crossed my face, "Danielle, we are here."She was slow to react to my words and when she did, all she said was a simple 'oh."Sighing, I got out of the driver's seat then walked over to the backseat to let her out."Come on," I nudged my head towards the house, indicating for her to walk forward but she didn't move. I had to grab her hand and then pull her along with me.Mrs Rodriguez must have heard my car pull in because she met us right at the entrance of the house."Mrs Marshall,

SARA’S POVInside my car, I kept glancing down at my phone while also struggling to keep my eyes on the road, pondering Danielle's words over and over again. She didn't want to stay with Alyssa, but why? Not knowing exactly what had happened and why she had made that statement was killing me.At first, I thought it was just a prank but Danielle was just five, an age too young to get pranking people and I hadn't detected any lie in her trembling voice from earlier that said, “Mommy, please come get me,” No matter how I thought about it on my way to the Park she had mentioned she was at, it didn’t make sense.Still, I didn’t hesitate to head there.By the time I reached the park, my heart was thumping loudly in my chest from the rush of trying to shorten the time it would take me to get here from my office and the curiosity to know what had happened. The late afternoon sun was dimming, spreading shadows across the Park pavements and right ahead, next to a long bench devoid of people,
