Chapter 6

Celeste’s POV

Suddenly, everything around me came to a halt. I could hear everything else so vividly and at the same time it felt as if I was in a different plane. There was a ringing in my ears, the question repeating itself in my subconsciousness.

Maybe I hadn’t heard right but I knew I had. The doctor had said those words and I couldn’t change them. I felt my heart stop for a moment, all the sounds disappeared and I lay there, my breathing erratic.

They still thought I was asleep because they didn’t stop talking, each word they said broke me further apart.

“Not if we don’t let her get pregnant again, that way she’ll never know what actually happened” I recognized Ragnar’s voice that usually brought me comfort and relaxation. “We can do that right doctor?” he asked.

    Author's POV That night, Ragnar waited for a long time but nothing happened. He could even see the sun beginning to rise in horizon slowly. And yet, no matter how long he did it, the man didn't show. The bag was still there or so he thought. Finally the sun had risen and he decided to check. Since the guards were around, he wouldn't be taken by surprise. His heart pounded the closer he got. He wasn't sure what to expect this time. Had he somehow outsmarted him? When he got to the clearing, he checked and staring back at him was an empty space. He felt his body shake with shock. It was unbelievable, this - the bag wasn't there anymore. Instead it was an envelope. He bent down and picked up, pushing it into his pocket so that nobody saw him doing that. His hands balled into fists but he turned around to walk away. As he did so, he wondered how it was possible. How had he gotten to the bag without Ragnar seeing him? He had been watching - eyes wide open and somehow he had missed it.
