Mia Hale is a young wolf-clan woman born without a wolf spirit. Although she lacks the enhanced senses and strength of her kind, she possesses a rare healing ability that she has vowed to use to help others. With this dream in mind, she studies nursing at Lycan Academy, where she meets her boyfriend, Liam Carter, and falls deeply in love with him. When Liam’s business is on the brink of collapse and his lifelong dream is at risk, he discovers that only a fingerprint-locked contract belonging to the feared high-rank tycoon and CEO, Kai Voss, can save him. Knowing Mia’s lack of a wolf spirit makes her less likely to trigger Kai’s security system, Liam manipulates her into sneaking into Kai’s villa to steal his fingerprints. What should have been a simple in-and-out operation takes an unexpected turn when the fated mate bond activates, revealing that Mia is Kai’s mate. Unable to reconcile the fact that his mate was caught stealing from him, Kai concludes that Mia is a spy sent by his rivals. He confines her to his villa while secretly announcing her as his fiancée, determined to lure the mastermind behind her into the open. Unaware that the boyfriend she risked everything for has been using her from the beginning, Mia finds herself trapped between the man she loves and the powerful mate who refuses to let her go. As Kai’s suspicions clash with the undeniable pull of their mate bond, Mia’s life is about to change in ways neither of them could have imagined.

Chapter 1

Mia's POV

“Thanks for healing me, Mia. My ankle has stopped hurting,” the football player said with a grin, and I smiled at him.

He had sprained his ankle during a match and he was brought to me so I could treat him just in time for the second half of the game. I had healing abilities that healed people faster than traditional methods.

“You're welcome. You can walk and play football now, but go easy on the field just in case,” I told him, and he nodded.

With that said, he got off the infirmary bed and was delighted when he could walk on his two feet.

His team members gasped and cheered when they saw this. They all thanked me one last time before walking out of the infirmary.

Once they were out of sight, I made my way to the tiny space I used as my office during my shifts and took off my nose mask and gloves.

I had barely sat down when somebody barged into my office, banging the door loudly behind them. My heart skipped a beat as I flinched, wondering who could have stormed in like that.

I had no wolf, and the absence of my wolf spirit made it impossible for me to detect scents and tell people's identities like other lycans could.

“Mia, there you are!” the person shouted and I gasped.

I raised my head and my heart rate steadied when I saw who it was. I was annoyed that he came in like that, but I couldn't help the smile that crept onto my face.

“Liam! Have you been looking for me?” I asked with a grin, but it fell when I noticed the irritated look on his face.

“I went to all of the classes you were supposed to have today, but I didn't find you in any of them. So this is where you've been?” he demanded.

I sighed as I stood up and walked closer to him. “Don't be angry, baby. I did tell you yesterday that some of my classes were cancelled and I'd be spending most of my day here in the school infirmary.”

His shoulders finally relaxed when I put my arms around him, and he sighed.

“Sorry about that, babe. It's just… I got some devastating news earlier and I wanted to talk to you, but you weren't there. That's not an excuse, though. I shouldn't have lost my temper.”

I tensed up when I heard what he said, and I broke the hug to meet his eyes.

“What news did you get, babe? Was it very bad?” I asked worriedly.

“It was about my business. You know how I told you I've been seeking out investors to join us and invest in us? They have all rejected me and the most annoying part about it is the fact that they all said the same thing.”

I raised a brow at that. “What did they say?”

Liam was quiet as he looked away from me and massaged his temple.

I touched his face, making him turn to look at me.

“Talk to me, babe. What did they say? Why did they all reject you for the same reason?” I asked softly.

“They said until I acquire a fingerprint-locked contract from Kai Voss, none of them would make a move to invest in me,” Liam said, squeezing his eyes shut. “I'm doomed, Mia. How am I going to get that contract from Kai Voss? He's literally untouchable. I'll never be able to get my security firm running.”

Kai Voss. I had heard of him before.

He was a business tycoon and the CEO of the most renowned security firm in the country. His companies supplied Alphas and high ranking officials with bodyguards and armed men during wars. Liam wasn't exaggerating when he said he was untouchable.

“Hey, hey. All hope is not lost, my love,” I whispered as I gazed into Liam's eyes. “What we should be thinking about now is how to get that contract and get your business running. We can't be negative, or negative things will happen.”

Liam nodded and heaved a breath. “I've asked around about how I could get the contract, but it's not very easy. I really don't think it's possible—”

I cut him off before he could finish his sentence, my face stern.

“Babe, what did I just say? We can be negative. We have to think positive right now. Nothing is impossible in this world,” I said seriously.

“What do we have to do? Do we go to his company and request to see him? We could camp in front of the building till he notices us. Or do we get close to his secretary or personal assistant to get information from them?”

Liam chuckled a bit before shaking his head.

“I wish it were that simple, babe. But unfortunately, the only way I heard we could acquire the contract is very risky. I'm not even sure if I want to do it…”

I paused as I gazed at him. What could be so risky that he was feeling hesitant to tell me about it?

“Talk to me, Liam… I can only be of help to you if I know the full story,” I said calmly. He looked at me unsurely before blowing a breath.

“The contract is in Kai Voss’ villa and the only way to get it is by stealing it,” Liam said hurriedly, and I froze.

I blinked at him, finding it hard to comprehend what he just said. “We can only get the contract if we steal it…?”

Liam nodded solemnly, meeting my eyes. “Yes, babe… That's the only way.”

I shook my head slowly. “No, no, no. There has to be another way…”

“There isn't… I've thought of any other possible options. I don't want to steal. But at this point, I don't even know anymore…”

I ran my hand through my hair as I thought about the whole situation.

I knew how much starting this firm meant to Liam. It was something he had been talking about before we even started dating. He finally got everything he needed to start, but he couldn't get people to invest in his business.

And the only thing holding back all the potential investors was this fingerprint-locked contract. If stealing it meant Liam could get the investors he needed, then that was what we would do.

My mind was made up as I looked at my boyfriend again.

“We’re going to have to steal that contract, babe,” I said, and Liam's eyes grew wide.

“You mean that?!” he exclaimed, and I bobbed my head.

“If that's the only way we can get the contract, then so be it.”

Liam swept me up out of joy, and I squealed as I yelled for him to put me down, but I couldn't stop giggling.

All of a sudden, he seemed to tense up and put me back on my feet.

His brows were furrowed in concern as he stared at me. “I just remembered something, babe. Kai must have high-level surveillance and detection technology all over his villa and my wolf would make it harder for me to do the job undetected. What are we going to do?”

I thought about it for a few seconds, but it was really a no-brainer.

I looked at him with a smile. “I'll do it, babe. I'll steal the contract for you.”

He looked at me in shock. “Really? You'll do that for me? Isn't it too dangerous?”

“You know I don't have a wolf, which will make it less likely for me to trigger alarms. It is dangerous, but this is your dream we're talking about. Let's just hope everything goes smoothly,” I spoke, and he stared at me with different emotions swirling in his blue eyes.

“Thank you, babe. I love you,” he grinned widely as he kissed me.

I smiled against his lips, relieved that I could do something to help the man I loved.

I didn't notice the brief flicker of satisfaction in his eyes before he pulled me into another hug.

If only I knew what I was getting into, I would've never agreed to take the chance.
