IVY POV

I did not sleep.

I lay still in the guest room all night, staring at the ceiling with my eyes burning and my throat sore. The sheets smelled wrong. Everything smelled wrong.

When the gray morning rats if sunlight filtered their way through the curtains, I felt so empty and hollow, lile someone had carved out my heart and left nothing behind.

But Miles needed me. He always needed me.

I pushed myself off the bed weakly and landed on shaky legs, then I caught my reflection in the mirror and the woman staring at me was pale with dark circles under her eyes, but I did not care.

I walked down the hallway towards Miles room. The house was quiet. Too quiet.

But when I reached his door, I stopped dead.

It was already open.

I stepped inside and my heart fell out of my chest.

Serena was there.

She was kneeling in front of Miles, and buttoning his school shirt. Her blonde hair was perfect with a soft smile on her face. She looked like she had been doing this forever.

Miles was laughing. “Mummy, that tickles!”

Serena giggled and patted his head softly. “Sorry, baby. Let me finish so we can go have breakfast.”

Mommy. Baby. We.

My hands shook terribly.

“What are you doing here?” I shrieked sharply.

Serena looked up in with fake surprise on her face. “Oh, Ivy. Good morning. I am just helping Miles get ready for school.”

“Helping?” I scoffed and stepped closer. “He is my son. I get him ready every morning. For five years.”

Mikes looked at me in confusion. Then at Serena and moved closer to her.

“I want Mummy to do it.” He said in a small voice. “Not you.”

The words hit me hard on the head like a slap.

“Miles, I am your mother—”

“No.” He shook his head. “Mommy is Mommy.” Then he pointed at Serena and cried. “I want her.”

Serena smiled. For the first time, a real victorious smile appeared on her face.

“Sweetie, go and pick up your back. Mummy will be right there.”

He ran off and did not look at me. He did not even say good bye.

I turned to Serena and cried shakily. “What did you do to me son?!”

“I did nothing.” She shrugged and stood up. She looked at me with coldness in her eyes. No more fake sweetness. “He just knows who loves him more.”

“You do not love him. You are chasing him.”

“Maybe.” She stepped closer and dropped her voice into a whisper that only I could hear. “But he calls me Mummy. And soon, the whole pack will too. So why do you just leave? You have already lost.”

I wanted to slap her. But before I could move—

“Ivy.”

Damon’s voice. Cold. Hard.

He stood in the doorway with his arms crossed and his gray eyes were icy cold.

“What are you doing here?” he asked.

“This is my son’s room. I came to take him to school.”

“No.” Damon shook his head. “Serena is taking him. From now on, she handles his mornings. You are done.”

“Done?” I croaked. “I am his mother—”

“You were his mother.” Damon said in a low deadly voice and stepped closer. “Now Serena is. She is better at it anyway. You were always tired. Always complaining. She actually wants to be here.”

My eyes became teary. I sobbed. “That is not true—”

“Do not cry.” He barked sharply. “You are embarrassing yourself.”

Serena walked to his side and wrapped her arms around his waist. Then she looked at me and smiled.

“Ivy, just go.” Even though her voice sounded sugary sweet, her eyes were cold. “You are not wanted here anymore. Not by Damon. Not by Miles. Not by anyone.”

“Get out.” Damon hissed. “Go back to your guest room. Or leave the pack. I do not care. Just get out of my sight.”

Serena laughed coldly. “Yes, get out, bitch. Before I make you.”

The word hit me deep like a knife.

Then Miles came running back with his backpack and ran straight to Serena’s arms. He did not even look at me.

“Mommy, I am ready!”

Serena picked him up. Kissed his cheek. “Good boy. Let us go.”

They walked past me and Damon followed.

At the door, Miles turned his head briefly to look at me with confusion etched on his little face.

“Why are you crying, Ivy?”

Ivy. Not Mommy.

Serena bounced him on her hip, and said calmly, “Do not worry about her baby, she is just sad because she has to leave.”

“Leave?” Mikes asked. “Where is she going?”

“Far away.” Serena replied sweetly and smiled at me. “Isn’t that right, Ivy?”

Damon did not say anything. He just looked at me with cold eyes. Like I was nothing. Like I had never been anything.

They walked out and closed the door behind them.

I stood in the middle of Miles’s empty room. His toys were scattered on the floor. His little bed was unmade and his shoes were by the door.

I sank to my knees.

Then the tears came. Hot. Fast and I could not stop them.

I cried until my chest hurt. Until I could not breathe. Until there was nothing left.

When I finally stood up, my heart was numb and my heart was far gone.

I walked back to the guest room, closed the door and locked it.

And for the first time, I realized the truth.

I was nothing to them anymore.

IVY’S POVThe morning sun was warm on my face when I opened my eyes, and for the first time in a very long time, I did not feel the weight of the world pressing down on my chest.I felt different. Lighter and more free. Like I had finally made a decision that I had been avoiding for too long.I got out of bed and walked to the bathroom, and when I looked at myself in the mirror, I saw a woman who looked ready for something new. My eyes were bright and my skin was glowing. As I admired my reflection in the mirror, my lips curved up into a small smile.I was going to see Kael today. And I was not going to be the same woman who walked into his office weeks ago, scared and defensive and ready to fight. Today, I was going to be someone else. Someone who was ready to let go and who was finally ready to feel. I took a long shower and let the hot water wash away the tension that had been building in my shoulders for months. I dried my hair and let it fall loose around my shoulders. Then I pu

KAEL’S POVThe night had been endless, and I had spent most of it staring at the ceiling, replaying her message over and over again in my head until the words merged together and lost all meaning.I need to see you. Those four words have been burning in my mind since the moment I read them, and no matter how I tried to push them away, they kept coming back, each time with a different meaning, a different possibility, or a different fear. What did she want to say? Was she going to reject me? Was she going to accept my proposal? Had something happened that she needed to tell me in person? I did not know, and did not knowing was driving me insane.I had replied to her message quickly, and my fingers had moved before my brain could catch up. “Where do you want to meet?”Her reply had come a few minutes later and she had suggested to meet at a quiet cafe in the morning. The meeting place was simple, neutral and it felt safe.I had not slept at all after that. I had spent the rest of the ni

IVY’S POVThe tea shop was quiet and cozy, with soft music playing in the background and the smell of fresh tea leaves in the air, but I did not feel cozy at all because my mind was still spinning from everything that had happened earlier in the day.Tara was already sitting at a table in the corner when Zara and I walked in, and she looked up at us with a smile that quickly faded when she saw the expression on my face.“Something is wrong,” she said immediately. “I can see it on your face. What happened?”Zara and I sat down. Then Zara spoke first, her voice sounding low and serious as she told Tara everything about Miranda confronting us in the parking lot after the signing, about the things Miranda had said, and about her warning that Kael would eventually get bored and throw me away.Tara listened carefully, with her eyes narrowing every second as Zara finished the story, and then she shook her head slowly before speaking. “Do not mind that jealous witch. She knows Kael is out of

KAEL’S POVThe evening was quiet at my house, and I was sitting in my study, staring at the same page of a report for the past ten minutes without reading a single word.My mind was not at work. It was on her.I had not heard from Ivy since she left my house and I did not know if she had signed the contract. I did not even know if she was thinking about me. I did not know anything. My phone rang and I picked it up. It was my assistant.“Alpha Kael,” he said. “I just received word from the investors. Ivy Morgan has signed the contract.”I leaned back in my chair and nodded. “Good.”“She signed it this morning, and everything went smoothly.”“That is all.”“Yes Alpha.”Then I hung up.I sat there for a moment, staring at the phone. She had signed it finally. So the contract was hers, then had gotten what she wanted.I should be happy for her. Actually, I was happy for her. But there was something else in my chest and it was very heavy. Something that made me want to call her and hear he

IVY’S POVThe building was tall and modern, and the lobby was so clean that I could see my reflection on the black tiles as Zara and I walked towards the elevator.I had been nervous all morning. My hands were cold and my stomach was tight. But I kept my face calm and walked with steady steps.“You look like you are going to your own funeral,” Zara said beside me.“I feel like I am going to my own funeral,” I agreed.“Relax,” she said in a soothing voice. “You already won. You are just here to sign the papers which is a formality.”“I know,” I whispered nervously. “But I can not shake this feeling.”Zara looked at me and asked, “what feeling?”“That something is going to go wrong.”“Nothing is going to go wrong, Ivy. You have the contract because you earned it. So just go in there and sign the damn papers, and get out.”I nodded, but the knot in my stomach did not go away.We took the elevator to the top floor and a receptionist led us to a large conference room with a long table and

IVY’S POVThe afternoon had passed by slowly, and I had spent most of it sitting on my apartment, staring at the notification on my phone and trying to figure out how I was supposed to feel about it.The contract was mine. I had won. I had gotten everything I had been fighting for since the moment I arrived in this city. But I did not feel like celebrating.I felt confused and I felt lost. I felt I was standing at the edge of a cliff and I did not know if I should jump or step back. Everytime I closed my eyes, I saw Kael’s face and everytime I tried to focus on something else I heard his voice.I am attracted to you, Ivy.I will wait.I pressed my palms against my eyes, ignoring the sharp pain that followed and let out a long, frustrated breath.Tara was sitting on the couch across from me, watching me with worried eyes.
