IVY’S POV

The air in the room was thick, too thick that I could barely breathe.

Kael was standing close to me, extremely close to an extent that I could smell his cologne clearly. Wood and spice, and I could see the heat coming off his body. My heart was pounding so loudly I was so sure he could hear it.

Then I saw it. The way he looked at my lips.

His eyes dropped to my mouth just for a second. But I saw it and my breathe seized up in my throat and I whole body froze on the spot.

He wanted to

  • REJECTED FOR HIS FIRST LOVE    CHAPTER 47

IVY’S POVThe morning sun seeped through my curtains and soon, I was covered with warmth. I woke up and stared at the ceiling with my heart beating consistently and my hands were shaking terribly. Today was the day and tonight, I would go to Kael’s house.I did not know what to expect. I honestly did not know what he wanted and I did not know if I was ready.I got out of bed and walked to the window and saw that the city was waking up. The cars were moving and people were walking about theit day. But I felt sick.“Are you okay?” Tara’s voice came from behind me suddenly. I jerked and turned around, to see her sitting on the couch, wrapped in a blanket. Her hair was messy and her eyes were tired. She had stayed up late with me last night, talking about Kael, about the contract and everything.“No.” I said and shook my head. “I am not okay.”“Talk to me.”“I do not think I can do this.”Tara stood up and walked to me. Then she put her hand on my shoulder and asked, “Do what?”“Go to hi

  • REJECTED FOR HIS FIRST LOVE    CHAPTER 46

KAEL’S POVMy house was quiet, so quiet as I waled through the living room, straightening a pillow here and adjusting a lamp there. I had never done this before. I had never cared about how my house looked for a guest. But this was just not any guest. This was Ivy.I stopped in front of the window and squinted my eyes at the bright city lights blinking in the distance. The sky was dark and the stars were out. But I did not see any one them.I only saw her.The way she had looked at me at the golf course. The way she had leaned into my touch. The way her grey eyes had held mine and did not let go.She was changing. And I was changing too.I thought about the catch. I thought about what I really wanted from her.It was not the contract, no, it was never about the contract.I wanted her. All of her. Her smile and her laugh, her anger, her fear, her strength and her weakness. Everything. But I was afraid. What if she said no and what if she walked away? What if she thought I was just like

  • REJECTED FOR HIS FIRST LOVE    CHAPTER 45

IVY’S POVThe evening air was cool on my face amd Tara and I walked down the street, away from the office. The sun was setting so the sky was painted in orange and pink. Cars drove past us and people walked by. But I did not notice any of them.My mind was still on tomorrow.“Are you okay?” Tara asked curiously.“I am thinking.”“About what?”“About Kael. About tomorrow and about everything.”“Tara looked at me and said, “you are nervous.”“I am terrified.”She laughed loudly. “That is normal.”But I shook my head and said, “Zara is not happy about this. She thinks I am making a mistake.”Tara stopped walking and held my hand. “Do you think you are making a mistake?”“I do not know.” I admitted with a shrug and looked at the ground. “She is only accepting it because she trusts me. But she is not happy. She does not even think I am doing the right thing.”“Zara is careful.” Tara said softly. “That is why you hired her.”“I know. But I am tired of being careful. I am tired of fighting a

IVY’S POVThe office was warm when I walked in, and I saw Tara sitting on the couch, with her legs crossed and with a cup of coffee in her hand. Zara was at her desk, going through some papers. They both looked up when I walked in.“There she is,” Tara said. “We were starting to get worried.”“Why were you worrying?” I asked feigning surprise.“Because you have been gone for hours.” Zara said and set her papers down. “So how did it go?”I dropped my bag on my desk and sat down. Though my body was tired, but my mind was still racing. I could still feel his fingers in my hair and could still see his eyes looking at my lips.“It was intense.” I said.Tara leaned forward and asked with a brow raised, “intense how?”Then I told them everything. The golf course, the way Kael had looked at me, the way he had stepped closer, the way there was no space between us, the way he had touched my hair and the way I had leaned into him instead of pulling away.Tara’s eyes got wider with every word and

KAEL’S POVIvy walked away with her white dress moving with the wind and her dark hair falling over her shoulders. She did not look back.I watched her until she got into the car and drove away. The golf course was quiet again and the sun was higher now which made the grass look greener. But I did not notice any of it.My mind was still with her. On the way she had leaned into my touch, on the way she did not pull back and on the way she had looked at me like she was seeing me for the first time. She was changing. And I did not know if that was a good thing or a bad thing.“You are staring again.”Miranda’s voice cut through my thoughts.I turned to look at her and saw that she was still standing there with her arms crossed firmly on her chest. Her smile was gone and her eyes were cold.“What do you want, Miranda?”“I already told you. I came to play golf.”“You do not play golf.”“I can learn.”I laughed coldly amd said, “you had me followed.”She did not deny it and her face did not

  • REJECTED FOR HIS FIRST LOVE    CHAPTER 42

IVY’S POVTara’s word were still in my head when I drove to the golf course.Stop making things hard for yourself. Use your feminine ways. Use him.I gripped the steering wheel tighter, with my heart pounding violently in my chest and my hands were sweating. She was right. I had been playing defense for far too long. Every meeting with Kael, I was reacting. Whenever he moved, I stepped back. Anytime he pushed, I resisted. When he got close, I created distance.Well, not anymore.Today, I was done being timid. Today, I was going to take control.I parked the car and looked at myself in the rearview mirror and saw my red lips staring back at me and my eyes are determined.“Let us do this,” I whispered and encouraged myself a little bit.I got out of the car and stepped into the bright sun. The grass all around me was green and the air was fresh. But I did not notice any of it, because my eyes were fixed on him.Kael was standing near the first tree. He was wearing a black polo shirt and
