Rose's POV

I woke to sunlight streaming through the window. For a moment, I didn't remember where I was. Then the memories came flooding back. The full moon. The vision. My mother's voice.

And Aiden. Holding me. Watching over me.

I sat up slowly. My body felt strange. Lighter somehow. Like something had shifted inside me.

Aiden was still there. Asleep in the chair by the window. His head was tilted back, his face relaxed in a way I'd never seen before. He looked younger like this. Less guarded.

I watched him for a moment. The rise and fall of his chest. The silver streaks in his dark hair. The scar running temple to jaw.

He was beautiful. I'd noticed it before. But sitting here, in the quiet morning light, it hit me differently.

He shifted. His eyes opened. Found mine.

"Morning," he said, his voice rough with sleep.

"Morning."

He sat up straighter, running a hand through his hair. "How do you feel?"

"Different. Lighter. Like something inside me settled."

"Good. That's good." He stood, stretching. "The full moon passed. Your power should be more stable now."

"What happened last night? I saw my mother. She spoke to me."

"I know." He walked to the window, looking out. "The bloodline connection is strongest during the full moon. You reached through it. Found her."

"She told me to find the truth. What does that mean?"

He was quiet for a long moment. "I don't know. But I think it means there's more to your mother's story than we know."

"More?"

"Your mother was the last of the Old Moon line. She died giving birth to you. But before she died, she told Helen something. A secret."

"A secret?"

"She didn't tell Helen what it was. Only that you would need to know it one day." He turned to face me. "I think last night was that day."

I felt a chill run down my spine. "What kind of secret?"

"I don't know. But I know someone who might."

"Who?"

"Helen." He walked toward the door. "Get dressed. Meet me in the great hall. We'll talk to her together."

---

Rose's POV

Helen was already in the great hall when we arrived. She was sitting at one of the long tables, a cup of tea in her hands. She looked up as we approached, her eyes knowing.

"I thought you might come," she said. "Sit. Both of you."

We sat across from her. I could feel the hum beneath my skin. Quiet now. Steady.

"Rose had a vision last night," Aiden said. "During the full moon. She connected with her mother."

Helen's expression shifted. Something flickered in her eyes. Surprise? Fear? I couldn't tell.

"She spoke to you?" Helen asked.

"Yes. She told me to find the truth." I leaned forward. "What did she mean?"

Helen was quiet for a long time. She stared at her tea. Her hands trembled slightly.

"Your mother," she said finally, "wasn't just the last of the Old Moon line. She was the key."

"Key to what?"

"To the prophecy." Helen looked up. "There's an ancient prophecy about the Old Moon blood. It says that one day, a wolf will rise who can unite the packs. Who can end the wars. Who can bring peace to our kind."

"That's me?" I asked, my voice barely a whisper.

"Your mother believed it was. She believed you were the one." Helen's eyes glistened. "That's why she gave her life for you. She knew you were meant for something greater."

I couldn't breathe. The words hung in the air, heavy and impossible.

"That's why Ethan betrayed me," I said slowly. "He knew."

"Yes." Helen nodded. "He knew about the prophecy. He thought if he could destroy you, he could prevent it from coming true. He wanted to keep the packs divided. Keep himself in power."

Aiden's jaw tightened. "He'll pay for what he did."

"He will," Helen said. "But first, Rose needs to understand what she's becoming. The power inside you isn't just for revenge. It's for something bigger. Something that could change everything."

I looked at my hands. The silver light flickered. Faint. But present.

"I don't know if I'm ready for that," I admitted.

"No one's ever ready for their destiny," Helen said. "But you don't have to face it alone. You have Aiden. You have Edwin. You have all of us."

I looked at Aiden. He was watching me with that unreadable expression. But there was something else there too. Something that looked like hope.

"We'll figure it out," he said. "One step at a time."

---

Edwin's POV

I found them in the great hall. Rose and Aiden and Helen. They were talking in low voices. Something serious.

I hung back, not wanting to interrupt. But Rose saw me. She waved me over.

"Edwin. Come sit."

I walked over, sitting beside her. "What's going on?"

Rose told me. About the vision. The prophecy. Everything.

When she finished, I didn't know what to say. It was too big. Too much.

"So you're supposed to save us all?" I asked finally.

"That's what the prophecy says."

"How do you feel about that?"

She laughed. A short, surprised laugh. "Terrified. Completely terrified."

"Good. That's normal." I smiled. "If you weren't terrified, I'd be worried."

She smiled back. That small, genuine smile that made my chest ache.

"Whatever happens," I said, "I'm with you. All the way."

"I know." She reached over, squeezing my hand. "Thank you, Edwin."

Aiden watched us. His expression was hard to read. But I saw something flicker in his eyes. Jealousy? Maybe.

I didn't care. Rose needed someone she could trust. Someone who wasn't carrying the weight of a prophecy.

I could be that for her. Even if that's all I could ever be.

---

Rose's POV

After breakfast, I went back to my room. I needed to think. To process everything.

I sat on the edge of my bed, staring at my hands. The silver light flickered. Steady now. Part of me.

Prophecy. Destiny. The future of all the packs resting on my shoulders.

It felt like a weight I couldn't carry.

A knock at the door. Lyra.

"Hey. Can I come in?"

"Of course."

She sat beside me on the bed. "I heard about your vision. About the prophecy."

"Word travels fast."

"It does." She grinned. "But I'm not here to talk about that. I'm here to check on you. You look like you haven't slept."

"I slept. Just not well."

"Want to talk about it?"

I thought about it. About the weight of everything. About my mother's voice. About the fear and the hope and the confusion.

"I don't know what I'm supposed to do," I admitted. "I came here for revenge. To survive. And now I'm supposed to save everyone?"

"That's a lot to put on one wolf."

"Yes."

Lyra was quiet for a moment. "My father died when I was young. My mother raised me alone. She always told me that the hardest things in life are the ones we're meant to do. That's how we know we're on the right path."

"Your mother sounds wise."

"She was." Lyra's voice softened. "She died a few years ago. But I still remember her words. They help me when things get hard."

I looked at her. Young. Strong. Carrying her own grief.

"How do you do it?" I asked. "How do you keep going?"

"I think about what she would want. What she'd want me to become." Lyra met my eyes. "What would your mother want for you?"

I thought about the vision. My mother's face. The love in her eyes.

"She'd want me to be brave," I said. "To fight for what's right."

"Then that's what you do. One step at a time."

I nodded slowly. "One step at a time."

We sat in silence for a while. The hum pulsed beneath my skin. Steady. Waiting.

Whatever was coming, I was going to face it.

I had to.

---

Rose's POV

That night, I stood at the window. The moon was waning now. A thin silver sliver in the darkness.

I thought about my mother. About the prophecy. About everything I'd learned.

And I realized something.

I wasn't just fighting for revenge anymore. I was fighting for something bigger. Something that mattered.

The packs. The future. The hope that things could be different.

I didn't know if I was ready. I didn't know if I was strong enough.

But I was going to try.

A soft knock at the door. I knew who it was before I opened it.

Aiden stood in the hallway. His face was shadowed. His eyes were dark.

"Can't sleep?" I asked.

"Never can, after the full moon." He paused. "Can I come in?"

I stepped aside. He walked to the window, standing beside me.

"I heard what you said to Lyra," he said. "About fighting for something bigger."

"You were listening?"

"I was passing by." He glanced at me. "You were right. Revenge isn't enough. It never is."

"Then what is?"

He turned to face me. His eyes met mine. "Purpose. Belonging. Something to fight for that's bigger than yourself."

"Is that what you found? When you built this pack?"

"Yes." His voice was quiet. "But I'm still looking for something else."

"What?"

He didn't answer. He just looked at me. His gaze intense. Searching.

And I understood.

He was looking for me.

I didn't know what to say. So I didn't say anything. I just stood beside him, watching the moon.

The hum pulsed between us. Silent. Strong. Patient.

Whatever was coming, we'd face it together.

Rose's POVThe next morning, I woke before dawn. The hum was quiet but present, a steady pulse beneath my skin. I dressed quickly and made my way to the great hall.Aiden was already there, standing by the fire. He looked up when I entered."Ready?" he asked."For what?""To find answers." He gestured to the door. "There's an archive. Old records. Scrolls. Things my father collected. If there's anything about the Old Moon bloodline, it'll be there."I followed him through the fortress. Down winding stairs. Through corridors I'd never seen. The air grew cooler. Damp. The torches on the walls flickered."Where are we going?" I asked."The lower levels. The oldest part of the fortress." He paused at a heavy wooden door. "This was built before my grandfather's time. Before the River Wolves were even a pack."He pushed the door open. Dust swirled in the torchlight. The room was huge. Filled with shelves. Books and scrolls stacked everywhere. Ancient. Forgotten."Your father collected all o

Nights spent too tired to dream. But something was changing. I could feel it.The hum was always there now. A constant presence beneath my skin. Sometimes I'd be eating dinner and the silver light would flicker around my fingers. Sometimes I'd wake in the middle of the night and find my palms glowing. It was getting harder to control. And I was supposed to be the weapon that stopped them.I found Gunnar in the courtyard before the sun was fully up. He was sharpening a blade, his good eye fixed on the stone."You're early," he said."Couldn't sleep.""War does that." He set the blade down. "You ready?""Ready for what?""To stop thinking so much. Training isn't just about your body. It's about your head." He tapped his temple. "You're still carrying all that grief and anger. It's making you heavy.""I'm supposed to just forget what happened?""No. You're supposed to use it." He stood up, his joints cracking. "Right now, your grief is a weight around your neck.
