Chapter 6: A Bad Day

As she waded through the City traffic, she hummed a tone.

“Hey! Watch where you are going, idiot!” someone yelled at her.

Katie frowned, her eyebrows knitted tightly, the voice seemed very familiar, she didn't put so much thought into it.

She arrived at the location of the person who ordered the pizza, held the box tightly and walked towards a residential building,

the street was very clean, different from other streets she has been to, without being told, anyone could tell that people of affluent in the City reside there.

She rang the electric bell, the gate opened, and a burly man stepped out, Katie Clyde looked up, the shadow of the man was blocking the sun from her face.

“Yes,” the man said in a deep baritone voice.

Katie licked her lips nervously, “I am the pizza girl, someone ordered a pizza here”

She recited her usual lines, “call the person”

Katie Clyde whipped out her phone, and called the person who made the order, “hey, what took you so long? I was expecting you an hour ago, I am going to drop a bad review on your page”.

An annoying voice came from the phone's speaker, Katie Clyde's face fell, and she grabbed her phone tightly, cursing the person on the other end in her head.

After ending the call, “hand it over” the gate man said in a deep baritone voice.

Before Katie Clyde could reason with him, she wish she could see the person who made the order and then reason with him, probably he would have dropped the intention of a bad review on her page.

The gateman snatched the pizza box from her hands, and retreated inside the house, Katie Clyde grumbled and turned around, walking away.

She rode her bike, a bit frustrated, and wishing she shouldn't encounter such again, but luck wasn't on her side.

“Hey, you! Stop!!” someone yelled, and stood in her way.

Katie Clyde removed her helmet with a big frown on her face, she narrowed her eyes at the young girl that have a little resemblance to her.

Over ten armed men were blocking the road, preventing commuters from going about their businesses, “Cousin, long time no see, how have you been?” Becky asked, she is Katie Clyde's uncle's third daughter.

Katie grumbled “Becky, you think everyone is jobless, and well-fed by their parents, and they have nothing to do, but move around all day 'causing trouble”

Becky rolled her eyes “Katie, I didn't force you to be poor, if you didn't kill your parents, you won't be suffering, and running around the streets of NY, serving people, and that slave deal you signed with the pizza delivery company also, won't have happened”

Katie Clyde gritted her teeth, she hated people accusing her of killing her parents, especially when her uncle has prevented any investigation into her parent's death

“don't be too smug, Becky, everything you have today is just borrowed for a little while, you can spout as much nonsense you can, it can't dispute the facts that your grades are doing worse every semester, you are dull like your father”

Becky's face became a shade of red “Katie, you witch!” she shrieked, disregarding her image, she lodged herself at Katie with her nails bared.

Katie out of reflex smashed the helmet she was holding towards her, knocking her arms forcefully.

“Argh!” Becky wailed, Becky's men quickly rounded her, and helped her to her feet, Katie's heartbeat raced, and she had a bad premonition in her heart.

“Beat the witch up, teach her a big lesson that she will never forget” Becky ordered her men, tears streaming down her eyes.

Right before their eyes, Pascal stood before Katie, before they could regain their senses, Katie and Pascal were nowhere to be found.

Katie rubbed her eyes, she looked around, wondering how come about the change of environment, “what is going on? How come I am here?” she mumbled.

Her gaze darted around, “did I have a dream?” she muttered.

Her phone started ringing, and her eyes widened, “Katie, you are in a big shit again, fuck!”

“What an uncouth lady, why is she cursing?” a passerby commented.

Katie rolled her eyes, and pulled out her phone, her manager's ferocious voice came from the phone's speaker “Katie Clyde, if you are tired of working for us, get your lazy ass out of my company”

Katie coughed awkwardly, she became flustered while trying to explain “I was attacked by armed robbers, luckily, I got away from them, you don't have to worry, I will handle the orders in time…”

“Bollocks!” the voice of the Manager interrupted her.

“You already got a half pay, mess it up, and you are going down to penniless” he warned and ended the call.

Katie Clyde checked her orders and exhaled, “let's do this” she muttered.

When it was night, she cleared all her remaining orders without mishap, after changing, she walked towards the Manager smiling sheepishly.

The Manager's face darkened, “Katie Clyde, got two stars for three deliveries, lied to her manager…”

Katie looked wide eyes at him, the Manager ended his long scolding speech with a closing remark “bad customer service, half-pay!”

Some workers who have taken their paychecks looked on with pity as Katie Clyde received her paycheck.

“Do you think Katie Clyde is pitiful?” one of them asked.

“Yes, she is, paying her bills, and also working, while doing academic work, she is a strong lady”

Katie Clyde left the company staring at the paycheck sighing heavily, she bumped into someone.

“Ouch!” she winced in pain, “at least watch where you are going, my nose hurts, sob-sob”

The man looked at Katie Clyde with confusion as tears gathered in her eyes, and he began to wonder if he was the one responsible for it.

“Hey, lady, why are you crying? I didn't hurt you, it was a mistake, my bad”.

Katie Clyde swatted nonexistent tears and mumbled, “yeah, isn't your fault, why am I crying?”

The question rendered the young man speechless, “what a drama queen” he muttered, Katie Clyde walked away directly, she didn't know that she had just walked out on her new Boss.
