CHAPTER FOUR

MIRANDA'S POV

As I read the letter, again the next day my heart raced with anticipation. What secrets could be hidden within its pages? My mind raced with possibilities, each more tantalizing than the last.

Suddenly, I knew what I had to do. I had to call the number and uncover the truth. My fingers trembled as I dialed, my heart pounding with excitement and fear.

When the person on the other end answered, my breath caught in my throat. They spoke in hushed tones, promising me a revelation that would shock me to my core.

But there was a catch. They insisted on meeting in person, under the cover of darkness. It was the only way to ensure that the truth would remain hidden no longer.

As I hung up the phone, my mind raced with questions. Who was this mysterious stranger? And what secrets did they hold that were so explosive, so life-changing, that they required such secrecy?

I knew only one thing for certain: I had to find out. And I would stop at nothing to uncover the truth, no matter the cost.

Meanwhile Simon's devastating break-up left me reeling, but Alexander's newfound aggression only added to my misery. The endless workload he piled on me left me drained and exhausted, yet I couldn't shake the nagging feeling that something bigger was looming on the horizon.

My heart raced as I thought about the stranger who promised to reveal my true identity. What if he was dangerous? A kidnapper, or worse, a ritualist? I tried to push the thought from my mind, but it lingered like a dark cloud, threatening to consume me.

As I struggled to make sense of it all, I couldn't help but wonder: what was waiting for me on the other side of this mysterious meeting? Would it change everything, or lead me down a path of destruction? The uncertainty was almost too much to bear.

The sun had set and the office had emptied, leaving me alone with my thoughts. Alexander had already left, and I breathed a sigh of relief. He always seemed to stand in the way of my plans. But just as I let my guard down, a voice shattered the silence.

"Stop right there, Miss Miranda," Alexander barked, his face an unreadable mask.

My heart raced as I turned to face him. What did he want? And why did he look so serious?

"We're going together," he said, his tone leaving no room for argument.

I tried to protest, but he cut me off with a threat.

"Take an Uber, and consider yourself fired."

My mind raced as I tried to figure out my next move. Should I risk losing my job, or take my chances with Alexander?

"Are you coming with me, or are you choosing the second option?" Alexander's voice boomed, sending shivers down my spine.

I stood frozen, torn between following Alexander and meeting the mysterious stranger. My heart raced as I weighed the risks and rewards of each option.

Finally, I made my decision - I couldn't risk my dream job by meeting a stranger with unknown intentions. I turned to follow Alexander, but my mind was still reeling with doubt.

As we approached the car, Alexander's driver opened the door, beckoning me inside. I hesitated, unsure if I was making the right choice. But before I could change my mind, Alexander slid in beside me, sealing my fate.

The car door closed with a resounding thud, and we sped off into the night. My heart pounded with anticipation - what was Alexander's plan

The journey was eerily silent as we pulled up to Alexander's mansion. His driver parked the car in the garage and Alexander turned to face me, his piercing gaze fixed on my every move.

"So, you're not going to give me a chance?" His voice was low and dangerous, sending shivers down my spine.

I was taken aback, fear gripping me as I struggled to find my voice. "Please, let me out of this car... or I'm going to shout."

Alexander let out a wicked laugh, his eyes gleaming with a sinister glint. "Go ahead and shout. But as far as I'm concerned, I'm deeply in love with you, and I'm ready to prove that to you if you give me a chance."

My anger boiled over at his audacity. I wanted nothing more than to lash out and hurt him, to make him feel the same pain he had inflicted on me. "So that's been your plan all along, hasn't it?" I spat, my voice dripping with venom.

I searched frantically for a weapon, anything to defend myself against this man who had become my worst nightmare. "Please, let's just keep our boundaries. I can never be in love with you, even if you were the last man on Earth. Our character flaws are too different, and you're my boss."

Alexander's silence was unsettling. His gaze was intense, as though he was contemplating something sinister. Suddenly, without warning, he seized me and pressed his lips to mine.

My world spun out of control as I struggled to break free from his grasp. His touch was suffocating, and my body betrayed me by responding to his kiss. I knew I had to fight back, so I mustered all my strength and delivered a sharp blow to his head.

As he released me, we both gasped for air, our hearts racing with fear and uncertainty.

Trembling with rage, I confronted him with a voice that quivered with fury. "You're taking advantage of me, boss,"

I hissed, my eyes narrowing to slits. "And that's not really nice and cool, boss. Just know that this isn't part of our agreement."

Alexander's lips curved into a sinister smile, but he remained silent as the driver opened the car door. I gasped as I realized the whole sordid scene was playing out in front of the driver's eyes.

As I stormed into the mansion, I promised myself that I would never let anyone play me the way Simon had. But my elation quickly turned to fear when I realized that Alexander was nowhere to be found. I scurried about, doing my chores and trying to ignore the nagging feeling that something was terribly wrong.

Finally, I couldn't take it anymore. I had to confront Alexander, to demand answers. But when I approached his study, the door was locked. I knocked and knocked, but there was no answer.

Frustrated and frightened, I decided to leave. As I hurried out the door, I felt a hand clamp down on my mouth. A cloth was pressed against my nose and mouth, and I felt myself growing dizzy.

The last thing I remember was the sound of my own screams echoing through the empty mansion.
