The silence that followed was deafening, and my mind was racing with a million thoughts. My heart raced and my mind couldn't comprehend what was happening.
Why was Alpha Christian looking at me like that? And what did he say?
I held my breath, waiting for him to say something else. But instead, he kept his gaze fixed on me as if he was searching for something deep within my soul. His eyes were intense, yet casual, and I couldn't help but wonder what he was thinking.
Damon, his Beta, whispered something in his ear, causing him to finally look away from me. At that moment, I felt as though I had been released from a hypnotic spell.
What the hell was that?
I wasn't sticking around to find out.
Next thing I know, the once-empty room is now abuzz with excitement. Everyone seems to have found their mate, except for me, of course. As I scan the room, my eyes land on Riley, who is staring intently at a guy across the room.
Curiosity getting the better of me, I creep up to her quietly, just to scare her a little.
“Boo!” I say.
“Ahhh…no, don't do that C. What's wrong with you?” she says, turning back to keep staring at the guy.
I squint at the guy, trying to place him. “Wait, is that Drax?...ewwww nooo why?” I say, with a disgusted look on my face because Drax is my cousin.
“Your mate is Drax?!” I exclaim in disbelief.
“I didn't know he looked so good until tonight,” she says dreamily.
Before I can say anything, she walks away, determined to talk to her newfound love.
As I watch her leave, I can't help but wonder what the universe has in store for me.
“Could this day get any worse? Drax and Riley? Moon goddess, what exactly is your plan here?” I say sarcastically, rolling my eyes.
Turning around I came face to face with Alpha Christian.
Oh, my days he smells so good…
Wait what? Where did that come from? My inner thoughts were scaring me right now. Also, why is he just staring at me without saying anything?
Okay! I'm just going to back away slowly and walk the other way. Hopefully, his scary ass won't follow me.
As I made for walking backward I tripped on something and before I knew I was falling in seconds my butt was going to make contact with the floor.
I closed my eyes to wait for impending doom and the pain that would follow.
At that moment, time stood still as I was caught mid-air. My heart raced as I felt strong and gentle arms wrap around me, pulling me close.
My eyes remained closed, for a few moments, we were suspended in the air, lost in each other's arms.
Slowly I opened my eyes and I was staring into the golden amber eyes of Alpha Christian.
A sly grin crept up on his face as he gracefully lifted me, placing me back on my feet. As he held my hand in his, I couldn't help but feel a shiver run down my spine.
It was as if his touch alone could send a thousand volts of electricity coursing through my body.
And then, I remembered who he was - the Alpha of our pack, a fierce and feared leader. His gaze was intense, and I knew better than to underestimate him.
I stepped back, my heart pounding in my chest and my hands trembling. I couldn't believe what had just happened. I didn't know what that was, but I certainly didn't want to get on his bad side.
"I am so sorry for the inconvenience Alpha Christian," I stammered, hoping my apology would be enough to smooth things over.
But Alpha Christian just smiled, his eyes twinkling mischievously. "It was no inconvenience," he said, his voice low and smooth. "Please, call me Christian."
I looked at him, confused and a little apprehensive. He held out his hand, and I hesitated for a moment before taking it tentatively. But as soon as our hands touched, a jolt of electricity shot through me, making me jump back in surprise.
Christian just chuckled, his eyes still sparkling. "I hope I didn't shock you too much," he said, his grin widening. "I promise I'm not dangerous."
I couldn't help but smile back, feeling a little more at ease. But I knew there was something different about him, something mysterious and powerful that I couldn't quite put my finger on.
All was quiet until an earth-shattering boom shattered the stillness like a bolt of lightning.
The sound of the emergency siren wailed through the air, making the hair on the back of everyone's neck stand up.
A sense of unease crept over the land as people tried to figure out what was happening. Something was definitely not right, and the suspense was almost unbearable.
"Alpha Christian! Alpha!" Khalil's voice echoed through the clearing, causing everyone to turn and stare. As he approached us, his eyes were wide with panic.
"We've been attacked!" he cried out, his words sending shockwaves through the gathering. People started to scatter in different directions, looking for places to hide.
Alpha Christian exchanged a glance with Damon, and they communicated silently through the mind-link. I couldn't help but wonder what they were saying.
As chaos erupted around us, I frantically searched for Riley. But she was nowhere to be found. I decided to make a run for my house and find a place to hide until the danger had passed.
As I ran towards my home, I couldn't shake off the feeling that I was being followed.
I quickened my pace and started to scan my surroundings, looking for any signs of danger.
Just as I reached the front porch, I heard a chilling laughter that sent shivers down my spine.
My heart racing, I nervously called out, "Who's there?"
Suddenly, I felt a sharp sting on my arm and my legs gave out beneath me.
As I collapsed to the ground, I saw a shadowy figure emerge from the darkness, cackling with delight.
My vision began to blur and I struggled to stay conscious as the figure loomed over me.
Finally, with a sinister grin, it whispered, "Night, night, princess".
“Let's get out of here” Riley said as she practically dragged me out of the room. I could not make myself walk faster than the pace I was going. I was completely and utterly stunned, what could've possibly made him react that way? Did I do something to him? “Why would he say that?” I whispered to myself as I was being dragged out. “Because he and every other person in this pack have officially lost their minds” she exclaimed walking furiously away from the pack house. I shake my head in confusion, “Wait what?! What the hell Riley?!” I asked, frustrated. She stopped mid stride, whipping around to face me and she shot me a frustrated look. “What is wrong with you?! Can't you see what's going on? You're in fucking danger here. We have to go!” She said, her eyes bulging from its sockets. I looked back at the pack house in dismay. This might not be the ideal time to grill her about what she knows but I will. So to ease her stress, I nodded my head slowly, letting her pull me away f
I looked at Riley in surprise, things had started to get scary in familiar territory and I wasn't feeling really safe anymore.I remembered what Riley told me just this morning about the weird things going on in the pack.“We just want to see Alpha Christian, there's no need to throw names at her,” Riley said to the guard. She was very irritated at the behavior but was restraining herself, so was I to be very honest.A lot had changed since we had gotten captured by Derek and his men. The time away had caused the pack’s mentality to change. Most of them at least, I hoped that a few still had their common sense amongst them.“This is absurd. I'm a proud member of this pack!” I exclaimed in defiance when he stubbornly stood in our way.He scoffed, “You're really testing my patience right now, do as I say and turn around before I do something nasty” he growled.I flinched back in disgust, his face had turned ugly. Any single ounce of patience I had left evaporated at the sight of it.“We
“What?” I all but yelled at her. Several people turned to look at me with judgement on their faces but I didn't really care.Riley tried to shush me but I wasn't having it right now.“Please tell me you're joking” I said pleadingly.Even as I said it, I knew it wasn't a joke. This was really happening before my very eyes.“I'm not joking. I don't know what the reason is but he refused to tell anyone you're his mate” she said, whispering the last part.I stayed silent, I knew exactly why he hadn't said anything to anyone. But now it was putting us into trouble.“Why would they give him that kind of ultimatum though? What is going on?” I asked incredulously.I shook my head wildly looking from left to right. Something wasn't right. First they made him a rogue, now he's back they're making him be with someone that is not his mate.“They said…. And it's very ridiculous…if he hasn't found a mate, he has to choose someone and make them Luna” she said exasperated.I was stunned, I tried to t
“No, that's nonsense!” I said, my eyes flashing with anger. What in the hell did she mean by punishing? And I wasn't born from a human. This was definitely nonsense.“They're wrong” I shouted, turning back to walk back towards my house.I wasn't hearing any of this nonsense anymore, but she stopped me.“Hey! Don't just storm out, I– I am just trying to help you, don't go” she said forcing me to halt in my tracks.I sighed heavily, she was right. I didn't mean to be rude to her, it just came out of nowhere. It hurt me deeply to hear that about my dad. They were wrong. They had to be wrong. If they were right then why wouldn't he tell me?“Look” she said, trying to steer me to a tree where we could sit for a while.“We can't know for sure if these rumors are true or false,” she said, shaking her head at me.“I'm sorry I shouted at you” I said solemnly, looking down at my feet.I heard her chuckling, but she didn't say anything immediately.“Why don't you just ask him? It's time you knew
My father had tried to distract me throughout our meal, bringing up conversation after conversation of what happened during the time we were hiding.I had entertained him up until I noticed he was finding it hard to breathe as he talked. This bothered me a lot. I wanted to know how serious his health issues are.I wanted to know why he was also keeping it from me, it's not like I wouldn't find out eventually.I didn't know how to go about the conversation and it was beginning to feel like a burden on my chest.“Dad,” I said suddenly, cutting him off as he spoke. He looked at me sharply, probably noticing the change in my countenance.“Are you going to tell me what's wrong with me? Do I have to beg? Tell me, please. I'm sure I can help” I said pleadingly. He looked at me with eyes filled with sorrow. His lips quivering a bit as he continued staring at me.But just like that the look was gone and he was back to his cheery self.“You don't worry about this old man. I will be good before
I ran towards him hurriedly, almost tripping on myself in the process. The minute I came in contact with him I felt tears that had been bottled up for the longest time spill out immediately.I missed him so much, just the thought that I wasn't going to be stuck in some house or cellar for the longest time gave me cause to squeeze him even more.“Oh dad” I said, crying on his shoulder like a pup that had been ripped from his mother's breasts.“My baby. Oh Celeste. I thought I had lost you forever” he said, gently patting my back over and over again.Fresh tears threatened to pour out at the sound of that but I maintained my cool. Coughing, I let go of him slightly and just looked at him.He seemed to have aged a lot since the last time I saw him. His weight had greatly reduced and he had worry lines on his face.I frowned, taking in his composure and stance to detect any signs of illness or maybe it was just fatigued.“Dad?...” I began to say but he waved me off and just took my hand.
