Dragon Bond Rain’s POV

I couldn't believe my eyes and ears as I sat on Selwyn's lap and listened to him talk. His face was gorgeous and chiseled. His eyes spoke volumes and held in their depths wisdom beyond my imagination. Then I almost let loose my dragon when he kissed me softly. His lips were so soft and warm and man could he kiss. I instantly kissed him back. I couldn’t help myself. He gave me my first kiss and I was excited. My dragon already felt the bondwith his wolf though he may not know it yet. I figured I had better explain how dragons bonded with a mate. I'm sure he didn't have extensive knowledge of dragons. Most shifters didn't because we were a secretive group of shifters. When our kiss ended I leaned back and smiled at Selwyn. This was my chance to tell him about the dragon mate bond. “ Alpha Selwyn I have something to tell you before we go any farther with this.” He stopped me with a look that said he was not pleased. I looked into his green eyes curiously wondering what I said to make him look at me that way. “From now on my mate you will call me Selwyn not alpha.” He said in his gravel like voice. Warmth flooded my veins that he would consider me as his equal. I knew my magic topped his shifter power but I was taught to always respect your mate. I smiled and leaned in to kiss him once more before I continued telling him about the bond.” You see the dragon mate bond is a little different from your own mate bonding as a wolf. My dragon Reya has already begun to feel the bond with your wolf and they will be completely bonded for eternity over time. Feel free to ask your wolf and he will confirm this for you. The human side of the mating ritual is the same as your wolf ceremony where we mark each other. However my dragon will in that moment brand you hers by dragon fire for all time. I understand if you don’t want to be branded by dragon fire. You can choose only to have our inner animals bonded. That is your choice completely.”I said to him all the while staring into his green eyes. I could tell he was conversing with his wolf in his head. When I had mentioned the branding part he looked a bit uncertain. Not many wolves had ever went all the way thru with a claiming. That’s why you never heard of a hybrid child coming from such a union even though it was possible. I could already feel his emotions twirling like a tornado thru the bond that was forming between his wolf and Reya. I placed my hand against his cheek and leaned close to whisper in his ear,”Don’t worry Selwyn the dragon fire never burns a fated mate if the bond is true and blessed by the Moon Goddess. The dragon brand will look like tattoos on your body.” His eyes shown relief at my words as I gazed into them and leaned in to kiss his cheek. We began talking again about how things would work and when he would introduce me to his wolf Maxim. I was so happy that he wanted me to meet his wolf and he wanted to meet my dragon. Selwyn was the image of a perfect mate in my mind so far. I was excited in this new adventure in my life even though I still held the pain inside from loosing my parents. Selwyn had midnight black hair that in the right lighting had a blue tint to it. His hair fell just to his shoulders and I couldn’t wait to run my hands through it. Before I knew it we were making out again when a loud banging came at the door. I watched Selwyn’s face as his eyes looked distant. I knew he was using the pack link to talk to whoever was there. Anger rolled off him in waves as he tightened his arms around me in a protective gesture. He was already so possessive of me and that excited me beyond measure. I figured there must be a Beta wolf at the door. No other wolf would dare interrupt his Alpha with his mate. Selwyn looked at me with that fierce determination he showed me the first time I saw him. I knew instantly something was wrong. He said the two words that made my blood run cold and my hatred rise. “Damn Cats.” I stood up from his lap so fast he didn’t have time to stop me and raced to the door swinging it wide and running into a very muscular and tall man. He had light brown hair and ocean blue eyes. I grabbed him by his arm before he could move and jerked him into the office with me and Selwyn. I stood in front of the door and dead stared the man I had just drug into the office. He almost looked a tad nervous but he didn’t show it for long. All I knew was that the cat shifters were dangerous and this pack was now my family to protect. I was not about to let anyone get hurt. Selwyn seeing that I wasn’t moving away from the door walked around the desk and came and wrapped his arm around my shoulder. He looked at the face of the Beta and smiled and said,” My mate this Rod and he is one of the Betas of the pack. He is my second in command and like a brother to me. His twin Ray is also a Beta and they share that position together. Rod this is Rain and she is my mate so any information you have for me can be shared with my Luna Rain.” I smirked as Selwyn’s arm tightened around my shoulders. Rod immediately began to tell us that two cat shifters were spotted along the border of the pack lands. Anger and hatred burned thru me and I turned to Selwyn to find his green eyes fixed on my face as I told him I’m going with him to kill them. I’m a powerful elemental dragon so it was my right to hunt with my mate. He took my hand in his and we headed out of the office after Rod told us what direction of the border they were seen at. Before we walked out the door of the pack house I said to Selwyn,” I will follow your lead my mate but I will end them if they get close to me.” He pulled me close to him and I slid my arm around his wait. I knew time was important but I couldn’t resist my fated mate who smelled like forest after the rain. It was intoxicating. He whispered in my ear as he leaned in to kiss my neck. His words calming my dragon immediately. He said,” My Rain I will protect you and no one will ever take you from me. YOU ARE MINE!” He kissed my lips and we walked out of the pack house. The Beta twins were outside Rod having went and mind linked his twin to join us. I glanced at Ray and noticed something dark lurking in his eyes. To all around he looked loyal but I could feel the deceit rolling of him in waves. I knew I would have to keep an eye on Ray until I could tell my mate about it. I hoped he would believe me. The four of us began running north to the border. The wolves were fast but so was I. I kept up the pace with them easily. We arrived at the border and found that the stink of cat was in the air. I knew unlike my handsome wolf man mate that I couldn’t shift. The cats didn’t know about my dragon and I wanted to keep it that way for as long as I can. I also knew I was very powerful in my human form. The border patrol came running up to Selwyn and baring their necks in submission to their Alpha. They filled us in on what they had seen and which direction the cats ran away in. I released my magic but kept it guarded so no one would feel it. I needed to know what we were up against. It didn’t take long to feel the trap the cats had set. As I listened to Selwyn make a plan for search and attack I knew that something felt off about this. It felt like the cats were provoking the wolfs to get a reaction out of them. I told my mate what was in my head because I wanted no secrets between us ever. Before my mate could answer me back a huge panther ran by the border twenty feet away from us and it spotted us and kept going. I knew then the cat wanted to be chased and the wolves would do just that. I looked Selwyn in the eyes and smiled at him. “You know Selwyn that cat is playing a game of let’s see who will chase me and end up in a trap.” I said to my mate. He turned back to the other wolves and said,”Let’s hunt cat but no chasing that one. It’s a trap. Do not give in to the chases no matter what.” I told Selwyn I would diffuse the trap and join him soon. He nodded getting ready for battle mode. This fight coming would be interesting.
