Chapter 8

Author: One Bite
As expected, Maisie fell silent after reading the message I had sent.

During the meal, she deliberately spilled hot soup onto Jessica's head. Scalded, Jessica instinctively yanked off her wig.

Troy was stunned to see that Jessica had almost no hair left on her head.

Maisie felt a thrill of satisfaction. When Jessica started scolding her, she immediately put on a pitiful expression and snuggled into Troy's arms.

Seeing Maisie's first show of affection, Troy instinctively took her side. "That's enough. It was just an accident. You're an adult. Why are you quarreling with Maisie over something so trivial?"

Jessica couldn't believe that the man who had always doted on her could say such a thing. In the days that followed, Troy began sleeping on the living room couch.

A sense of unease flickered through Jessica's mind, though she couldn't pinpoint its source.

One noon, she decided to step outside. All of a sudden, her foot slipped, and she tumbled forward onto a pot of cacti in front

I walked over to Olivia and gave her a reassuring smile.Sensible as ever, Olivia held her tongue. Meanwhile, Maisie stared at me, her face a picture of disbelief. She asked, "Dad, what do you mean? Are you saying you don't want Billy and me anymore? Why? What's happening?"I pulled out the paternity test results. "I've come to a difficult realization. All these years, I've been raising someone else's kids. You might not know this, but you're actually Jessica Stanton's biological children, and your real father is Troy McPoland."Despite their forced smiles, Maisie and Billy couldn't hide their sense of unease.Suddenly, Maisie broke down in tears and rushed toward me. "But we've always treated you like our real father! Does blood really matter that much? Dad, we want to stay with you! That woman doesn't deserve to be our mother!"Lawrence and Edith had heard enough. No matter how flawed Jessica might be, she was still the one who carried the twins for nine months and gave birth to

The neighbors lingered, eager to watch the drama unfold.Jessica and Troy were now fully dressed. I covered my mouth, pretending to be shocked. "It looks like my wife's old flame is no longer a secret!"At the mention of "old flame", the onlookers' eyes widened in surprise.Troy let out an awkward laugh. "It's all just a misunderstanding…"Never in his wildest dreams did he imagine that it would be his daughter who ruined his plans."This isn't a misunderstanding!" Maisie shot back. "I even caught them hugging each other without clothes on!" With that, she handed me the photos as proof. "Daddy, you have to divorce this promiscuous woman!""Exactly!" Billy added.I stood frozen, looking both shocked and heartbroken. "I can't believe it. Everything they warned me about before the wedding was right."Jessica, let's get a divorce."It didn't take long for the news of Jessica's affair to spread throughout Amberg. The neighbors began to approach me, cautioning that the twins bore a

At the internet cafe, Billy and Maisie were surrounded by their classmates and friends.Without uttering a single word, Jessica marched in, a feather duster raised in her hand. She dragged Billy and Maisie to their feet and began lecturing them sternly. The twins' faces flushed crimson. At that moment, it seemed as though the whole world was mocking them.In my past life, Jessica was the warm, thoughtful mother, while I played the role of the strict father—monitoring every homework assignment, managing their diet, and keeping a close eye on their academics.Jessica spent her days dressing up and occasionally offering a few words of concern. For Billy and Maisie, even those rare gestures were enough to be considered love.Back then, Jessica had built her reputation as a devoted mother on the foundation I created. This time, I was determined to flip the script and make her regret everything. After that humiliating episode, Billy and Maisie grew to resent Jessica completely. They ca

Over time, Billy and Maisie became even more mischievous. When no one was watching, they secretly mixed hair removal cream into Jessica's shampoo. Soon, screams erupted from the bathroom. Jessica was left with only a few strands of hair on her head.I didn't even bother hiding my smile. My laughter only seemed to push her further over the edge. She wasn't stupid. She immediately knew who was behind it.That night, Billy's and Maisie's cries filled the apartment once more. But watching the way these little rascals stared at Jessica, I knew that she didn't stand a chance against them.Jessica was forced to cover her head. The hair removal cream had worked astonishingly well. Even after more than three months, her hair had barely started to grow back. Now, Jessica poured all her energy into regrowing her hair, leaving her with little time to oversee Billy's and Maisie's studies.During this time, I also gave the children extra pocket money. The twins started skipping classes ever
