"Thank you so much for entrusting your daughter to us, Mr. Sarmiento. We assure you that she'll be taken good care of," nakangiting sabi ng school administrator ng super exclusive school na pinag-enroll-an ni Nate kay Elisha. Ms. Cruz was a young school admin. She was pretty and sexy too. Obviously, she'd been trying to charm the too formal Nate Sarmiento since they came into the room. "I'm counting on that, Ms. Cruz. By the way, this is Hannah Rodriguez," sa wakas ay pakilala ni Nate sa kanya, akala niya nakalimutan na nito na kasama siya nito. Kanina pa kasi nag-uusap sina Nate at Ms. Cruz and he never introduced her, that she could only guess based on Ms. Cruz' subtle gazes na nagtataka na ito kung sino siya. ‘Yong pagtataka na nanghuhusga. Like how come a very handsome and rich man like Nate Sarmiento would have a garbage company like Hannah. "She'll be the authorized person to fetch Elisha." "Oh yeah... We do have a waiting area for nannies, Sir," Ms. Cruz almost answered cheerfully like she was right all along that she wasn't an important person. "She's Elisha's mother," Nate corrected her in his famous suplado look. Napatingin naman siya sa binata. She didn't expect him to say that. She wanted to say thank you for saying so pero hindi siya nito tinatapunan ng tingin. "Oh, I'm so sorry, Mr. Sarmiento," Ms Cruz apologized, flushing a little. "But still, we have the same waiting area for mothers and nannies." She looked at her in a way to tell her she hadn't actually won yet. Napakunot-noo naman siya. May problema ba ito sa kanya? Parang baliw lang. "Just make sure of my daughter's safety." Tumayo na si Nate. "Security is our priority, Mr. Sarmiento." Hindi na sila nagtagal. She proceeded to the waiting area while the ever busy Nate, the businessman, went his way to his office. She didn't get the chance to thank him for introducing her as Elisha's mother. Paano kasi, the moment they got out of the admin's office, he dismissed her right away. So she decided to just send him a message. Hannah: Thank you for introducing me as Eli's mom... You don't know but it means so much to me. That went unanswered. He's a very busy man and she's just a nobody to him so that's understandable. "Hi," nakangiting bati sa kanya ng isa sa mga nasa waiting area. "I'm Leah... Bago ka rito?" "Hello… I'm Hannah." "A mother, I hope?" "Thank goodness!" Iginiya siya nito paupo, expressing how thankful she was to finally have someone to talk to other than the yayas who were supposedly too young and can never relate to a mother like her. "So, how come I never saw you before?" "My daughter just got here," sagot niya. "Really? But it's the end of the school year in two months!" "I know. Her dad just wanted to transfer her." "Let me guess, the Sarmiento Princess? I heard it through my friend." Leah's eyes grew wide. "OMG, are you the wife? But no, I think he was supposed to be married to that actress, Olive Concepcion." "No..." so kahit saan pala talaga kilala sina Nate at Olive. Ganoon ka-famous ang dalawa. "Just his daughter's foster mom," she added, a matter of fact. After all mukha namang mabait si Leah. "Sa pangangalaga ko lumaki ang anak nila." "Oh... okay," tumango lang ito and didn't pry further which she was really thankful for. "Anyway, I think she's in the same class as my little Seth." "Really? That's wonderful!" "It is!" They giggled. Hannah thought she really didn't have a friend beside Olive. So Leah might just be added to her friend list. "Ayokong ipagkatiwala sa yaya ang anak ko so I make it a point that I watch over him," Leah continued. "Only child?" "Not in five more months." "Wow, congratulations!" saad niya nang marealize na buntis ang kausap niya. "Thanks. I'm so happy that I’m having a girl this time. Seth is so ready to be a kuya," she said excitedly. Suddenly, she felt a pang of jealousy. Mukhang happily married si Leah. At masayang-masaya ito sa pagiging ina. She was a happy mother too, a week ago. But now everything has changed. And she's just trying to be happy despite the fear that she just wouldn't see Elisha again one day. "How about you, Hannah?" "Well, I have Elisha." She managed a smile and she knew by the way Leah nodded that she wasn't satisfied with her answer but nonetheless, didn't push on the issue anymore. Nag-focus na lang ito sa pagkukwento at pagsasabi sa kanya ng mga ilang school rules which she found really informative kaysa basahin pa niya ang binigay kanina na handbook. But still she thought she'd find time to read. Leah introduced Seth to her and so she did with Elisha. The two kids as well exchanged pleasantries before they parted. Sinundo sila ni Paul. Ang appointed driver slash bodyguard ni Elisha. Hannah remembered him to be the security personnel na sumundo sa kanya noon sa gate ng subdivision when she met Nate the very first time.. "How are you coping up, Ms. Rodriguez?" tanong nito matapos mag-report kay Nate na nasundo na sila. "Doing just fine." She smiled a bit. "Good to hear that. You know Nate can be hard sometimes, but he's kind." He smiled as well, revealing white set of teeth, so he wasn't too formal after all. "Medyo kailangan lang ng panahon para mag-warm up. Hindi talaga siya mabilis magtiwala." "You're calling him by first name?" "Best friend. That's how we treat each other, Hannah," he threw her a glance. "Really? But you work for him." "Nothing beats having your best friend as your boss... " proud pa nitong sabi. "Wow... Your patience must be that long–" "Believe me, Nate is the one with long patience," he cut her. "I have known him for like twenty years now and I can say that he's really a good guy." "You honestly don't have a crush on him, right?" She stifled a smile, puro papuri kasi kay Nate ang lumalabas sa bibig nito. "Straight male here, Hannah," he answered, not the least offended. "But I feel obliged to warn you." "About?" She raised a brow. "Nate has this charm that makes girls go crazy–" "Oh please, that's not gonna happen." "At least I warned you." He shrugged, natatawa pa rin. "Well then, thanks for the warning, Paul." She focused on the sleeping Elisha on her lap. Falling for Nate was not one of her problems because she's positive that she'll never fall for the man who wanted to take Elisha away from her. Ang problema niya ay kung paano mananatili sa tabi ng kaniyang anak…Nate was indeed a very busy man. But he made it a point to drive Hannah and Elisha to school everyday -at least for already three days straight. And it should have been a good thing. But Hannah hurts every time she sees how happy Elisha was with Nate's company. How did that happen? She never mentioned the word daddy to her so she wouldn't look for one. And Elisha never asked her about her father. Akala niya nagtagumpay na siyang burahin ang ano mang magkokonekta dito sa tunay nitong mga magulang, to Nate in particular. Pero heto, a little over a week pa lang since Nate came into Elisha's life and yet parang forever na silang magkakilala. Elisha loves her daddy so much it already hurts. Dahil alam ni Hannah that when she gets that chance na ilayo si Elisha - mahihirapan na siyang burahin si Nate sa buhay nito, If she ever gets that chance in the first place… Hannah always gets the backseat dahil gustong gusto ni Elisha sa passenger seat. She loves pestering h
"Elisha, stop that," saway ni Hannah sa anak na pinaglalaruan ang almusal nito. "You're going to be late if you don't hurry up." "Why is daddy not driving us to school?" Malungkot at naka-pout na tanong nito. "Daddy's got a breakfast meeting, Eli. It's important." "More important than us?" Seryoso ang anak niya and she didn't know if it's a good or a bad thing. "Baby, listen to me. Daddy is a very busy man. But he finds time to spend with you. However, today, he's got this very important appointment with an extremely important person," she wasn't supposed to cover for Nate. But for some reason, ayaw niyang madagdagan ang problema ng binata. She couldn't forget that hurt smile of Nate last night. She had always thought that he's a strong man –for the short time she'd known him at least. But last night, habang sinasabi nito na nagpakasa
The latter was a picture of a happy kid. Nate on the other hand was a picture of a loving father. Before she knew it, a smile already crept across her face. She noticed a few people already recognized Nate Sarmiento as they began taking pictures of him in not so secret way. She knew that he knew and he didn't do anything about it. So hinayaan na lang din niya. After all, kahit hindi pa pinapakilala ni Nate sa publiko si Elisha, hindi naman nito itinatago ang anak nito. Nevertheless, she saw Paul and the other escorts stopping the crowd from
"Leah, stop!" Their little family moment at the fast food were all over the papers the next morning. Of course everybody jumped to the conclusion that Nate had a secret family all along. That's why his marriage to Olive didn't push through, ending with the latter marrying somebody else… "Come on, look at this... '' Leah tirelessly shoved the newspaper to her face. "This gesture is just so romantic. Who wouldn't think that you're not a couple?" Tukoy nito sa litratong hawak-hawak ni Nate ang kamay niya while trying to protect her and Eli from the media. "It's nothing, okay? A spur of the moment thing." "Hannah, he should've just left you right there if he didn't care about you!" "Why is it even such a big deal?" "Hello, Nate has celebrity status. You do not know but many rejoiced when his wedding was put on hold.
"N-no..." Hannah denied, although she knew Nate heard her sobs. "Just put me down now, please?" No. She wouldn't cry in front of Nate Sarmiento. He'd already seen her so weak in the elevator that breaking down would confirm his doubt that she wasn't capable of taking care of Elisha. Hannah wouldn't want to give Nate a reason to kick her out of her daughter's life very soon. "What happened back there?" she heard him ask matapos siyang maibaba sa couch. Worry was still evident on his face. "It's a good thing na tinawagan ako ni Paul. What if he didn't?" "You're just going to faint inside the elevator and that will scare the hotel guests if they see you..." dugtong nito. 'Okay... Nate was
Sabi nga ng binata, he didn't ask. He had told her to join him. "How's Elisha doing in school?" he asked. "Okay naman. She already have a best friend and he's a boy. Seth ang pangalan niya," nakangiting kwento niya, hindi nga nila halos mapaghiwalay ni Leah ang dalawang bata tuwing uwian na. "Boy?" Tikwas ang kilay na tanong ni Nate. "Is he courting my princess?" He pretended to be mad. "What?" Natatawang aniya ."You're kidding me..." "I think I need to meet him," pabirong sabi pa nito. "His mother is actually my friend, Nate... Her name is Leah. She's a good person. So, I believe that Seth is also a good kid. You know, Elisha wouldn't like him so much if he's not..." "I'm kidding, Hannah," he
"Mommy!" narinig niyang tawag ni Elisha. Paglingon niya ay nakita niya itong karga-karga sa likod ng isang lalaking sigurado siyang hindi tao ni Nate. "Eli!" napatayo siya. "Mommy, this is Tito Adam!" imporma ng anak niya bago pa niya nakuhang magtanong, tuwang-tuwa si Elisha. "Hi!" bati ng lalaki sa kanya. "You must be, Hannah," nakangiti nitong dagdag na inilahad ang kanang palad sa kanya habang sinusuportahan ng kaliwang kamay nito ang anak niya sa likuran nito. "Hello, yes, I'm Hannah. Please hold, Eli," natatarantang sabi niyang napakabilis na kinamayan ito sa takot na baka mahulog ang bata. "Don't worry, I got her well... Right, kiddo?" tumakbo-takbo pa ito sa tuwa naman ni Elisha. "Please, please, ibaba mo na siya!" pakiusap niyang alalang-alala. "Yeah. Yeah, alright." Umupo ito para makababa si Elisha na nagpoprotesta pa. "Eli, that's enough," mariin niyang saad. "Are you okay, anak? You're not h
When Hannah was seventeen, namatay ang kanyang ina sa sakit na cancer. A year later, her father remarried and as requested by his new wife, kicked her out of his life. Nine years after leaving home, Hannah didn't have the slightest idea kung okay lang ba ang kanyang ama. Fear of being rejected again by the man na dapat ay naging karamay niya noong nawalan siya ng ina. If she would be given a chance, babalikan niya ito. 'Who are you kidding, Hannah? Okay. Siguro nga masama ang loob niya. Who wouldn't? Hindi siya nito pinili noon. He probably wouldn't now.
