Chapter 17.

My ass was almost numb from sitting so still in the chair for so long and I wouldn’t be surprised if mum had no nail left after biting it so nervously.

We purposely kept quiet, so we didn’t wake uncle and we anxiously waited for Caleb’s howl or the alarm and for three hours, neither had come. The longer it went on the more worried we became and although neither of us spoke it, I knew we were both thinking the same thing… we were both expecting to hear the alarm. Occasionally we would hear yelps and loud growls and I just hoped over and over those yelps didn’t come from father or Leo.

“Mum…. Listen!”. I whispered with alert as I suddenly sat up straight, straining my ears to hear.

“What? What was it?” She whispered back nervously.

“A howl, I’m sure I heard it!”.

“I didn’t hear anything, Raven, are you sure?”

“I know I heard it!”. I told her as I stood from my chair and quickly dashed over to the door.

“Wait!” Mother stopped me, slamming her hand on the door so I couldn’t open it.
