~Elara's POV~
"YOUR SUSPICION WAS correct, Luna," the doctor said, looking up from the paper in his hand. "You are pregnant…" "But how?" I was still in shock, not wanting to believe it. This was what I had been praying to the moon goddess for as long as I got fated to Alpha Silas. All I wanted was to give him an heir, but because of an accident I had when I was younger, I was unable to retain any baby in my womb. I always miscarried on the fourth month. "Luna?" the doctor said, drawing me from my thoughts. "Here. See it for yourself." I collected the paper from him. My hands were shaking slightly as I looked at the report. "Positive" was boldly written at the bottom of the page. "This should be a call for celebration," he said. I shook my head firmly, clutching the paper closer. "No. Keep this between us, Doctor." I said, fixing him with a stern glare until he bowed and nodded in confusion. As I walked out of the hospital, I thought about the night the baby was conceived. My mate, Alpha Silas, had come home drunk, and as usual, I was waiting for him to help him up to our room. I ignored the stinking breath of alcohol as I took his shoes off and unbuttoned his shirt when he suddenly grabbed my wrist tightly. He looked in a crazy fashion and pressed his lips against mine. It came as a surprise because in the 2 years I was mated to Silas, he touched me only once – on the night of our mating ceremony, and never again so I was surprised and mildly pleased when he flipped me over on the bed on my belly and raised my skirt. His full length was welcome in me and he groaned as he moved, thrusting with force and getting faster. I closed my eyes, moving in rhythm, happy to please my mate and hoping that this was going to take our relationship to the next level. He jerked erratically as he poured his seed in me, moaning loudly, but my blood froze and my heart stopped for a second when I heard what he said as he collapsed on me. "Iris…" he muttered softly as he drifted off to sleep. Iris was my sister. My mate had just moaned my sister's name as he came in me. My heart was in shambles as I picked my things from the floor, gathered my pride and hurried out of the room like a used cheap prostitute. Just as I had expected, he did not remember a thing the following morning. He did not even spare me a glance at breakfast before he went to his office. It was after that night that I suddenly began noticing how my husband was fond of my twin sister, Iris. They were often smiling at each other, and he listened to her words… Could they be lovers? I asked myself. Or was it just normal politeness and I was just overreacting… these questions bounced in my head for the following months. I was so engrossed in those thoughts, that I did not notice when I began showing signs of pregnancy until months had passed. When I got to the pack house, I began preparing dinner. I was going to break the news to Silas as he ate his favourite meal. I wanted him to be satisfied and happy. We would raise this miracle child together, I rubbed my still-flat tummy fondly. After hours of cooking, I was finally done, I set the table and sat down at the door, ready to wait. The report from the doctor was in an envelope on the table. My eyes constantly went to the clock. He was later than usual, the meals were getting cold. Finally, I heard the sound of his car pulling into the garage. I plastered a smile on my face and smoothed my hair as I stood up. I opened the door, but was stunned when my sister came in. "Iris…" I said, surprised. "What are you -" Silas came in after her. "We have something to tell you?" Iris said, looking at my mate. It dawned on me that my fears were coming to pass now. They had been having an affair under my nose. "You look like you already know…" she said with a smile. "Me and Silas…" "No…" I whispered, shaking my head and taking a step back. "No… Silas, tell me this isn't what I am thinking, please." I cried, looking at him, but he did not even spare me a glance as he sat at the dinner table I had prepared and began eating. "You were never meant to be the Luna, Elara," Iris said sweetly. "Silas chose me. It had always been me." "How could you do this to me?" tears flowed down my eyes freely. "You could not even give him an heir," Iris crooned. Because he would not even touch me! "You are a fucking weak wolf." My sister was saying. My own twin, the girl that we had shared a womb together, and spent all of our childhood together. In fact, she was the reason I had the accident that made me unable to conceive. "Silas… Silas…" I pleaded walking over to the table. "I am pregnant… I promise." "Stop the lies, Elara," Iris said. "You are pathetic." "The doctor's report is on the table." I replied. Silas reached for the envelope and opened it. His eyes swept through the paper. His jaws froze and he slowly turned his head to me. There was a sad look in his eyes, but it was gone in a flash, replaced by anger. "What sort of ploy is this?" He snarled. "I have not touched you since our mating night two years ago. You dare try to pin another man's child on me?" "I swear, Silas. It is yours-" my words were cut as the back of his hand connected with my face in a thunderous slap that sent me sprawling to the floor. "Oh my dear sister," Iris said. "Either you bribed the doctor to forge this report…" she picked up the paper and shredded it to pieces. "Or you have been fucking around. The rumours were true." "Silas, you have to believe me, please..." He stood up and looked down at me. His eyes were filled with anger and hate as he kicked me repeatedly. "I will not have any bastard pup in my pack!" I curled into a fetal ball as the kicks rained down on me. When he finally stopped, his breaths were heavy. "I, Silas Roxxon of the Bloodmoon pack, hereby sever every tie with you. I cut all mate bond between us as painfully as possible, and I reject you now, and forever!" The pain that radiated all through my body came from deep in my soul. It felt like I was being torn in two. I whimpered as it spread like hot fire. My wolf was never a strong one, especially with how Silas treated us while we were married, so she could not give me the strength I needed. I felt the warm liquid flow down my thighs, and it registered in my failing mind that I had just lost my baby. "Come and eat before the food gets cold, darling." I heard Silas say. His voice sounded far away as my consciousness drifted away. The world faded to black, and I felt my heart give its final, painful beat. I died. My last thought before the darkness swallowed me was a desperate furious prayer to the moon goddess for another chance. I would do things differently, and make them all pay for what they had done to me. They would pay back my sacrifices by a hundred fold. And the moon goddess was listening. She granted my wish.~ELARA~EVERYTHING HAPPENED SO fast that my fork was still in my hand when Jane pulled me up the stairs. One minute, I had been stuffing food into my mouth as Jane cooed over my sleeping daughter. The next, the door had banged open, and the pack’s elders had come for my head. Then Marcel had moved, and I had not known a man could move like that.“Upstairs,” Bruce said, hurrying after his alpha. “Now, Elara.”Jane did not wait for me to answer. She hustled me up the steps with the baby wailing in her arms, and she put us in a room with a window that looked out over the yard.I looked at the door where Tomas had crashed through, and shivered. I could not see what was going on outside, but I could still hear the sounds of heavy footsteps.I joined Jane upstairs, gratefully. A window faced the yard, and I looked through. My breath caught in my throat as I saw the multitude of people gathered there.Had they all been waiting for this?"Step away from the window," Jane said softly. My baby
~MARCEL~ELARA WAS DISCHARGED ten days after the birth, and I had spent more of those ten days at the medical center than I would ever admit to anyone.I found myself standing at the nursery glass at three in the morning, watching a very small chest rise and fall, watching her get stronger. "She is all set, sir," a nurse said. "Ready to go."I looked up. Elara was in a wheelchair, carrying the baby in her arms. She looked surprised to see me. She must have been expecting Bruce or someone else to come pick her up."Thank you," I smiled tightly as I signed off the documents. The nurse waved at us as I helped Elara into the back seat and pulled out of the parking lot.The car was quiet except for the small, soft sounds of the sleeping baby. I glanced at them via the rear-view mirror. Elara's gaze was pinned outside the window. I swallowed and asked, "Have you thought of a name?"She shook her head. "Not yet...""You should," I muttered, knowing it sounded foolish. After all, her executi
~MARCEL~THE HOSPITAL WAS a small grey building on the edge of the nearest town. I pulled up in front of the doors so hard the car rocked.I approached the desk nurse, who was an elderly Matron."Hello sir, can we help you?" She asked, flashing me a smile.I nodded. "A woman was brought in today. She was going into labor."The smile faded a degree. “Are you family? Her husband?”I began to shake my head but stopped myself. "I am her husband, yes. She was brought here by my sister.""You should have had her registered, sir," the nurse said. "We did not have any antenatal records or anything...""We only just moved into the area," I gave her a tight smile. "It happened by surprise..."“Your name, sir? Her date of birth? Insurance—”Bruce stepped up beside me. “I will handle the forms,” he said, in the calm Beta voice that could talk a river back uphill. He slid a card across the counter, the same company card that owned the land beneath our feet. Then he gestured to me with his head. “
~MARCEL~ "YOU DON'T HAVE to keep on being mean to her," Bruce said as we walked on. I gave my beta a look that said "drop it," and shook my head without responding. The thought had been bugging my mind as her due date drew closer. After her pregnancy, what next? I could see the impatience in the eyes of some of the elders, and I knew they were also counting down to when she gave birth so she could be executed accordingly, but... "You can not kill her," my beast growled. "Not now. Not ever." I chuffed and pushed him to the back of my head. This unreasonable bond he felt to her wolf... Over the past five months, I avoided any contact with Elara Grogel, but I kept my eyes on her. I would watch her from a distance, watching how she moved, how her eyes crinkled at the edges when she smiled. Once I stood behind a woodpile for twenty minutes while she sat on Jane’s porch and laughed at something my sister said, her head thrown back, one hand resting on the curve of her belly,
SIX MONTHS LATER ~ELARA~ THE LAST FEW months went by in a blur since I was pardoned by Marcel. The pack members did not change how they viewed or treated me. I was still a Grogel, their hated enemy—but what changed was the size of my stomach. It had gradually grown bigger, until now it was the size of a watermelon. "The scent of those might end up making you nauseous." A voice called out to me. I was crouched among the herbs behind the cabin, running my thumb over a blossom I could not name, when a voice came from behind me. I turned to see Jane walking towards me. I smiled warmly, but I still plucked the flower I had been caressing. Jane had been my only friend since the day I was abducted. She had taken me in against her brother's wishes, and she was the only person in this pack I could speak to freely. "I will try to keep my meals in my stomach," I smiled back at her as she linked an arm through mine, and we walked out into the street. The pack was settling here in the moun
~MARCEL~“CAN YOU BELIEVE it?” I paced the length of my study. The chair I had kicked lay in pieces against the wall.“You think she might be pregnant,” Bruce said. “Do you know what that means?” i asked.“You can not touch her.” His voice was flat, but his eyes tracked me with interest.I went to the bar and poured a whiskey.“But you are not sure yet,” Bruce said. “All you have is that she vomited on you, and that could be many things. Maybe the cell was just too disgusting.”I snorted into my glass. “I sent her to Jane.”“And if the answer is yes?” He raised an eyebrow.I did not answer because I did not have any answer. Jane came in without knocking. “It is positive,” my twin said. “She is a few weeks along. Our pregnancies run faster than a human’s, so a few months.”“Fuck,” I said under my breath. The next words came out of me low and ugly, before I could stop them. “Is there a way to get rid of it?”Jane frowned in confusion. The color drained from Bruce’s face.“Marcel.” Jane
