Chapter 11

Jessica Hemsworth

"She's too impulsive. She is nothing like Anna. If it weren't for Jeremy, I would've asked you to throw her out already."

I paused abruptly, and my grip around the spoon I was stirring the soup with, tightened as my mother-in-law's faint voice echoed in ears.

She continued. "If it weren't for Jeremy, I would've asked you to throw her out already. The sight of her disgusts me."

My heart tightened in my chest, and I gritted my teeth.

Comparing me to Anna every damn time, doesn't she ever get tired?

‘You are nothing but a desperate bitch that couldn't wait to marry my son. You should be grateful he hasn't divorced you yet’

‘Anna is better than you in every way’

'You wouldn't be here if it weren't for Anna's death'.

My jaw clenched tightly as every word said to me, every maltreatment clawed back into my mind.

I had been nothing but a good wife to Viktor and his family. I did everything for his mom. When she was sick and was on the verg

Chapter 12 Jessica Hemsworth The food had already been delivered by the time we got back, so I assumed it was the text he got earlier. Eloise was dishing out the food. “Let's eat.” Viktor muttered under his breath, picking up the spoon. We began eating. The tension in the atmosphere thickened, the awkward silence complimenting it. “By the way, Jessica…” Eloise's voice cut through the silence as she paused eating. “You didn't come over yesterday to make mom's herb. Why?” A silent scoff tore through my throat, my fingers tightening around the spoon. Some years ago when Viktor's mom fell ill, I used my father's secret medicinal recipe to help her heal. Back then, making the herb every three days became a routine for me. But what did I get in return? Even while I did everything for her, she never failed to rub it in my face that she didn't like me. I lifted my gaze to Eloise, putting on a soft smile. “That is why you should've learned how to make it, Eloise.” S

Chapter 10 Jessica Hemsworth Black outfit. A perfect fit to celebrate the severing of ties with Viktor's family because they were all dead to me. My lips curled in a smile as I stood in front of the mirror. I had never been so proud of my outfit the way I was. My hair was let loose down my shoulders, and I intentionally wore a nude lip gloss. Viktor was already waiting by his car at the parking lot. He straightened, his eyes flashed with… admiration. I noticed how he subtly checked me out, trying hard not to be noticed. “Let's go.” His voice was cold and firm… as always. “Viktor…” we were just about to enter the car when Susanne's voice came on from behind, and I turned to see approaching us. She was fully dressed, like she was going out. Is she leaving? “Aren't you going to mom's?” She halted in front of us, a smile playing around her lips. “I was wondering if I could come with you. I've missed mom so much.” She added, not waiting for Viktor to reply to her first qu

Chapter 9Jessica Hemsworth The loud bang on the door disrupted my sweet sleep, thrusting me back to reality as I snapped my eyes open. Alas! It was already morning. My lips curled in a smile as memories of last night replayed in my head. The satisfaction was still there.“Jessica!” Viktor's loud voice followed another bang on the door, and this time, I knew I had to go open up.“Gosh! It's too early for this.” I groaned inwardly, leaving the bed.His blazing eyes welcomed me the morning I pulled the door open. Jeremy stood beside him. Both still in pyjamas. I looked back inside to check the time. I mean, they were supposed to have been dressed for school and work already, so why are they still not changed yet?“Good morning, Viktor.” I put on a soft smile.“Why is Jeremy not ready for school yet?” He barked instead.I looked at Jeremy as if to confirm his question, then back to Viktor, and shrugged casually. “Why are you asking me that? Jeremy is here.”“Jessica!” His voice had me

The sheer audacity.“I want to sleep.” He added, his eyes piercing into mine.He must still think that this is the old Jessica, who would run around at his command.“Go lay your bed yourself, Jeremy. You are old enough to do it.” I told him bluntly, and his eyes flashed with shock.“If you can't do it, go ask your dad for help. I'm sure he wouldn't mind doing it.” I added, and he froze on the spot.“I told you to go lay my bed, Jessica!” He snapped. Maybe he thought his voice was intimidating enough.I turned to him, my lips curled in a smirk. “Don't be rude, Jeremy. You don't raise your voice at your elders. It's rude.” I corrected him.His jaw clenched tightly, his eyes blazing with anger as

Chapter 7 Jessica Hemsworth Viktor left the bed, and with one glare at me, he headed to the door and pulled it open. “Mr. Hall…” I heard him call, with a pretentious chuckle as he stepped out of the room and closed the door behind. “What are you doing here?” His annoying voice rang from outside. “I was looking for you. I wanted to talk about something with you.” I heard Mr. Hall speak, followed by their receding footsteps. I sighed in relief, running my fingers through my hair. That was a close one. I curled up on the bed, hugging my legs to my chest as tears blurred my vision. I was just back here without any plan. I couldn't even think of anything at the moment, because I was still stuck. My phone screen lit up with a text, and I hesitantly reached for it. ‘Mother-in-law’. My grip tightened around the phone, and my heart wrenched painfully as memories of everything this woman has done to me clawed into my mind. I always thought my aunt was the most heartless being, bu
