Chapter 3

Author: Perfect Timing
I chuckled and said in a sarcastic tone, "It's just a cough, Addy. There's nothing to be afraid of. But you have to be careful, Thomas. It'd be a great pity if you contract any other diseases due to your lifestyle."

Thomas' expression changed instantly. He had no idea what I was implying, of course. He assumed I was jealous of Adelia and was mocking her.

Though he was displeased, he still appeared calm and said gently, "Don't overthink it, Rose. I'm just concerned about you."

I quickly cut him off, not wanting to listen to his lies. "We'll be filling in our application forms these few days. Have you two decided which university to enroll in?"

Adelia looked happy as she cooed, "Of course I have. I'm going to Dalton University! I want to study at the same university as Thom. After all, only a university as prestigious as that one is fitting for me."

"As for some other useless pieces of work…" Adelia shot me a look before she sneered. "There's no use applying for any proper universities at all. Who knows, they might not even get the chance to start studying when the time comes."

I gently caressed the bracelet on my wrist and smiled softly. "Dalton University? That's a good university. But are you sure you'll be able to get in, Addy? Their minimum required score is 1200 points."

Adelia's expression shifted. She was about to snap at me when Mom suddenly cut in, saying, "What nonsense! Adelia's already recovered and even got terrific grades. She'll definitely get accepted into Dalton University!

"You'll be eating her dust when the time comes! Now move aside!"

Mom then pulled Adelia to her before I could speak. Then Mom said gently, "Ignore Rosalie, Addy. I'll host a celebration for your enrollment when you finish filling your forms. We'll see what else Rosalie has to say once you get your offer letter."

I quietly listened from the side, feeling cold and distraught.

Mom had done the same in my previous life. She'd happily declared Adelia's high grades to everyone right after the swap, ignoring me entirely.

I pretended to nod my head obediently before returning to my room.

For the next few days, I continued pretending to be sick while secretly observing everyone.

Sure enough, Adelia had applied to Dalton University. Mom had swiftly started preparing for Adelia's celebration, calling all our relatives throughout the day to announce the news.

She'd even used her private savings to buy a gown for Adelia, which was worth thousands of dollars.

All our relatives quickly came over to butter up Mom and Adelia after hearing that Adelia was going to a prestigious university.

Aunt Irina went up to Mom, admiration oozing from her as she said, "You're so blessed for having such a wonderful daughter, Agnes! She's made us all proud by getting into Dalton University!"

Mom was giggling happily. "Yes! Addy has made me so proud!"

Aunt Sarah had even brought Adelia expensive gifts, which Adelia gleefully accepted.

I received a text message from my best friend, Yvonne Kingsley, one day.

"Rose, I think Jeremy is sick. I saw him vomiting blood yesterday."

My grip tightened around my phone. I shot Mom and Adelia a look before smiling quietly.

Jeremy's symptoms had started a week earlier compared to mine in my previous life. It seemed like the effect of the amethyst bracelet had taken hold more quickly.

I was eager to watch everything unfold now. I wanted to see how Mom and Thomas would react when they found out that the exam results and health they'd stolen from me were nothing but a farce.

She's the one who planned this abduction! She forced me to do this. She forced me to!"He was sobbing wildly now, trying to put all the blame on Mom. Perhaps Mom was horrified by the cruel scene that had unfolded right before her earlier or the sudden appearance of the police, she swayed for a moment before collapsing like a deflated balloon. In the end, the police took us all to t

"Shut up!" Mom screamed after hearing my cries. "Yes! I was trying to get rid of you, you good-for-nothing bastard! "I wanted Adelia to have your luck and use your grades for her future! Who knew you'd give that bracelet to that filthy kid, Jeremy, and ruin Adelia! You ruined her whole life!"Mom was panting heavily as she glared at me venomously. She walked up to me and screamed, "The only solution now is to exchange your life with Adelia's! This is your fault! You should've worn that bracelet in the first place!"Every word dripped with venom. Finally, Mom pressed a cold blade against my neck.My nails dug into my palms behind my back as I watched this woman, whom I'd called "Mom" for so many years.Just then, a deafening sound rang out through the place. Someone kicked the front door down.Several figures stood in the doorway. Jeremy stood at the head while several fierce-looking men lingered behind him.The moment he came inside and saw what was happening, he snapped, "Abdu

Adelia locked herself in her bedroom from that day onward. She spent her days sobbing and cursing everything and everyone—me, Thomas, and fate itself.Meanwhile, her illness worsened faster than mine had in my previous life. At first, Adelia felt lethargic easily, then started coughing and having a mild fever. Less than a week later, she began having a high fever and quickly developed a severe skin rash.Once, when I left my room to get some water and passed by Adelia's room, I heard her moaning in pain from inside. "I feel terrible, Mom. It hurts to breathe. Everything hurts… Am I going to die, Mom? Please save me. I don't want to die…"Mom was terribly upset by Adelia's condition. She'd wanted to send Adelia to the hospital for treatment, but Adelia had refused again and again. Adelia was scared more people would find out she'd contracted AIDS. She was worried that Thomas would abandon her for good once she was officially diagnosed with the disease.Mom was convinced by Ade

I then looked helplessly at Adelia as tears began falling from my eyes. "I only gave the amethyst bracelet Thomas gifted me to Jeremy because I didn't really like it. How could that have ruined Adelia? What have you guys been hiding from me?"The moment those words left my mouth, all the guests turned from Jeremy to my mother."Did you hear what Adelia said? What did she mean by swapping her cancer?""And exam marks? What are they talking about?""Adelia doesn't seem to be lying…""Oh damn! This family is really complicated, huh?"As the guests were in a fervent discussion, I noticed Thomas was glaring venomously at me from a distance away. He looked like he'd swallowed a frog."Say something, Thomas," I choked. "Didn't you give me that bracelet as a gift? Why did Mom and Adelia make it sound like some cursed object? What is really going on?"All the guests turned to look at Thomas at once.He jerked violently after I questioned him. He then opened his mouth to explain himself

All eyes instantly turned to the bracelet on Jeremy's wrist. Surprised by the sudden attention, Jeremy sneered and waved the bracelet lightly. "Do you mean this? I have Rosalie to thank for this. I was pretty unhappy after checking my results the other day, so she gave me this to cheer me up. I did feel a difference after wearing it."Jeremy's brows immediately knit together. His face grew pale before he began coughing violently. When he checked his palm after the fit subsided, he saw that his hand was stained with blood.Jeremy was shocked by this. He then wrinkled his nose and scoffed, "Damn it! How unlucky is this? Why have I been coughing up blood lately? Weird."A low droning sounded in Adelia's head. Fear overwhelmed her the moment she returned to her senses. "No. That's impossible. This can't be…" she mumbled to herself. Then, she turned around to glare at me. "It's you! You did this, didn't you, Rosalie? That bracelet. You gave that bracelet to Jeremy! You swapped my i

As we approached the day of Adelia's enrollment celebration, I grew more and more ill. I coughed violently every single day and was unable to walk steadily. I even applied makeup on my face to appear ashen and weak.Adelia and Thomas would look disgusted whenever they saw how I looked. It was as if I were some terribly filthy thing to them.Mom would snap at me or insult me here and there, too. She'd call me a good-for-nothing and sickly burden that only dragged everyone down. After days of careful acting on my end, it was finally the day of Adelia's celebration. It was held at the grandest and most luxurious hotel in the country. There was a large banner with the words "Congratulations, my beloved Adelia, for getting into Dalton University!" printed on it.Mom was wearing a luxurious gown while holding Adelia close, laughing happily. Thomas watched Adelia with a tender gaze from the side. Meanwhile, I stood ashen in a corner in plain clothes. It was as if I were a mere outsider
